عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ مُثَنًّى الْحَنَّاطِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ تَغْلِبَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ:

إِذَا شَكَكْتَ فِي حَيَاةِ شَاةٍ وَ رَأَيْتَهَا تَطْرِفُ عَيْنَهَا أَوْ تُحَرِّكُ أُذُنَيْهَا أَوْ تَمْصَعُ‌ بِذَنَبِهَا فَاذْبَحْهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَكَ حَلَالٌ.

4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad ibn abu Najran from Muthanna’ al-Hannat from Aban ibn Taghlib who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that in a doubtful condition about a sheep being alive or dead, see if its eyes turn, or its ears move or its tail moves, then slaughter it, it is lawful for food.’”
