قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع النَّاقَةُ الْجَلَّالَةُ لَا يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهَا وَ لَا يُشْرَبُ لَبَنُهَا حَتَّى تُغَذَّى أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ الْبَقَرَةُ الْجَلَّالَةُ لَا يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهَا وَ لَا يُشْرَبُ لَبَنُهَا حَتَّى تُغَذَّى ثَلَاثِينَ يَوْماً وَ الشَّاةُ الْجَلَّالَةُ لَا يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهَا وَ لَا يُشْرَبُ لَبَنُهَا حَتَّى تُغَذَّى عَشَرَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَ الْبَطَّةُ الْجَلَّالَةُ لَا يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهَا حَتَّى تُرْبَطَ خَمْسَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَ الدَّجَاجَةُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ.

12. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan al-Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al- Rahman from Misma‘ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘The milk and flesh of a camel that feeds on feces are not edible until it feeds on clean feed for forty days, such a cow for thirty days, such a sheep for ten days, such a duck for five days and such a chicken must be kept in quarantine for three days.’”
