قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع الْعَقْلُ غِطَاءٌ سَتِيرٌ وَ الْفَضْلُ جَمَالٌ ظَاهِرٌ فَاسْتُرْ خَلَلَ خُلُقِكَ بِفَضْلِكَ وَ قَاتِلْ هَوَاكَ بِعَقْلِكَ تَسْلَمْ لَكَ الْمَوَدَّةُ وَ تَظْهَرْ لَكَ الْمَحَبَّةُ.

13. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad in a marfu‘ manner that Amir al-Mu’mineen Ali (as) said: “Intelligence is a complete cover (protection) for one and extra knowledge and skills are evident beauty. Compensate your physical shortcomings with your extra knowledge and skills. Fight your desires with help from your intelligence and in so doing friendship is surrendered to and love becomes manifest for you.”

[6]الغطاء ما يستتر به و الستير فعيل بمعنى الفاعل اي ساتر للعيوب الباطنة أو يستر صاحبه عما يدنسه.ص 20
[7]الفضل ما يعد من المحاسن و المحامد؛ و الجمال يطلق على حسن الخلق و الخلق و الفعل( آت)ص 20
[8]أي: بفضائلها و كمالاتها فان من الأخلاق الرذيلة ما لا يمكن ازالته بالكلية لكونه معجونا في جبلة صاحبه و خلقه- بفتح الخاء- فالمجبول على صفة الجبن مثلا لا يصير شجاعا مقداما في الحروب سيما إذا تأكدت في نفسه بالنشوء عليها مدة من العمر فغاية سعيه في معالجتها أن يمنعها من الظهور بمقتضاها و لا يمهلها أن يمضى افعالها و لهذا امر بالستر.( فى).ص 20
