2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father all from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about the case of a man who marries a woman for a certain amount of mahr (dower) and goes to bed with her without paying anything. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must pay in advance a little or more unless he has a certain asset which is enough to pay her mahr (dower) in case something happens to him, then it is not unlawful.’”
