وَ رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ طَرِيفٍ عَنِ الْأَصْبَغِ بْنِ نُبَاتَةَ عَنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ع قَالَ هَبَطَ جَبْرَئِيلُ عَلَى آدَمَ ع فَقَالَ

يَا آدَمُ إِنِّي أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُخَيِّرَكَ وَاحِدَةً مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ فَاخْتَرْ وَاحِدَةً وَ دَعْ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ وَ مَا تِلْكَ الثَّلَاثُ قَالَ الْعَقْلُ وَ الْحَيَاءُ وَ الدِّينُ فَقَالَ آدَمُ ع فَإِنِّي قَدِ اخْتَرْتُ الْعَقْلَ فَقَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع لِلْحَيَاءِ وَ الدِّينِ انْصَرِفَا وَ دَعَاهُ فَقَالا يَا جَبْرَئِيلُ إِنَّا أُمِرْنَا أَنْ نَكُونَ مَعَ الْعَقْلِ حَيْثُ كَانَ قَالَ فَشَأْنَكُمَا وَ عَرَجَ.

Hadith.5906 - It is narrated from Abu Jameelah Al-Mufaddal ibn Salih, from Sa'd ibn Tarif, from Al-Asbagh ibn Nubata, from Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) who said: "Jibril (as) descended upon Adam (as) and said: 'O' Adam, I have been commanded to offer you a choice among three things, so choose one and leave the other two.' Adam (as) asked: 'What are those three things?' Jibril (as) replied: 'Intellect, modesty, and religion.' Adam (as) said: 'I choose intellect.' So Jibril (as) said to modesty and religion: 'Depart from him.' They both replied: 'O' Jibril, we have been commanded to remain with intellect wherever it is.' Jibril (as) said: 'Then it is your affair,' and he ascended."
