اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ ثِقَتِي فِي كُلِّ كُرْبَةٍ وَ أَنْتَ رَجَائِي فِي كُلِّ شِدَّةٍ وَ أَنْتَ لِي فِي كُلِّ أَمْرٍ نَزَلَ بِي ثِقَةٌ وَ عُدَّةٌ كَمْ مِنْ كَرْبٍ يَضْعُفُ عَنْهُ الْفُؤَادُ وَ تَقِلُّ فِيهِ الْحِيلَةُ وَ يَخْذُلُ عَنْهُ الْقَرِيبُ وَ الْبَعِيدُ وَ يَشْمَتُ بِهِ الْعَدُوُّ وَ تَعْنِينِي فِيهِ الْأُمُورُ أَنْزَلْتُهُ بِكَ وَ شَكَوْتُهُ إِلَيْكَ رَاغِباً فِيهِ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ فَفَرَّجْتَهُ وَ كَشَفْتَهُ وَ كَفَيْتَنِيهِ فَأَنْتَ وَلِيُّ كُلِّ نِعْمَةٍ وَ صَاحِبُ كُلِّ حَاجَةٍ وَ مُنْتَهَى كُلِّ رَغْبَةٍ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَثِيراً وَ لَكَ الْمَنُّ فَاضِلًا.
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from abu ‘Abd Allah al-Barqi and abu Talib from Bakr ibn Muhammad from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “O Lord, You are my trustee in every distressful condition. You are my hope in all suffering, You are for me in all of my problems, (You are) my trustee and my resources. How many were the distressful conditions wherein the heart weakened, patience ran thin, people near left out and the enemies rejoiced all matters were exhausted? You assisted me in the matters that I had brought before You and complained about them to You, turning away from everyone besides You and You changed it into happiness, removed the hardships and sufficed it (in its removal). You are the patron of all blessings, the provider of all help, the end of all interests, all praise belongs to You a great deal and thanks to You in addition.”

قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِجَلَالِكَ وَ جَمَالِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ أَنْ تَفْعَلَ بِي كَذَا وَ كَذَا.
6. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban from ‘Isa ibn ‘Abd Allah al- Qummi from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: "Say, ‘O Lord, I plead before You through Your Glory, Beauty and Magnanimity to provide me such and such help,’ one should mention one’s wishes.”

قَالَ لِي أَكْثِرْ مِنْ أَنْ تَقُولَ- اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُعَارِينَ وَ لَا تُخْرِجْنِي مِنَ التَّقْصِيرِ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَمَّا الْمُعَارِينَ فَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ فَمَا مَعْنَى لَا تُخْرِجْنِي مِنَ التَّقْصِيرِ قَالَ كُلُّ عَمَلٍ تَعْمَلُهُ تُرِيدُ بِهِ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فَكُنْ فِيهِ مُقَصِّراً عِنْدَ نَفْسِكَ فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ كُلَّهُمْ فِي أَعْمَالِهِمْ فِي مَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَ بَيْنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مُقَصِّرُونَ.
7. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ibn Mahbub from al- Fadl ibn Yunus who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.) once said to me, ‘Say very often, “O Lord, do not place me among those whose belief is temporary and do not take me out of shortcomings.” I (the narrator) then asked, ‘I know who the people of temporary belief are, but what is the meaning of, ‘Do not take me out of shortcomings?’ The Imam said, ‘In every good deed you may perform just for the sake of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, you should feel within yourself as falling far short; all people in their deeds between them and Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, fall far short from perfect.’”

قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع لَقَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ بِكَلِمَتَيْنِ دَعَا بِهِمَا قَالَ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي فَأَهْلٌ لِذَلِكَ أَنَا وَ إِنْ تَغْفِرْ لِي فَأَهْلٌ لِذَلِكَ أَنْتَ فَغَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ.
8. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from ibn Mahbub from Aban from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘A’Yun who has said the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, forgave a man from the village by two words with which he pleaded before Allah. He said, O Lord, if You punish me, it is because I deserve it and if You forgive me it is worthy of You (Your greatness) and (for this) Allah granted him forgiveness.’”

يَا مَنْ دَلَّنِي عَلَى نَفْسِهِ وَ ذَلَّلَ قَلْبِي بِتَصْدِيقِهِ أَسْأَلُكَ الْأَمْنَ وَ الْإِيمَانَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ.
9. It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith above) from Yahya ibn al- Mubarak from Ibrahim ibn abu al-‘Ala’-Balad, from his uncle from al-Rida (a.s.) who has said the following: “O the One who guided me to His Ownself and humbled my heart due to its affirming His existence, I plead before You for peace and belief in this world and in the hereafter.”

رَأَيْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فِي فِنَاءِ الْكَعْبَةِ فِي اللَّيْلِ وَ هُوَ يُصَلِّي فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ- حَتَّى جَعَلَ مَرَّةً يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَى رِجْلِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَ مَرَّةً عَلَى رِجْلِهِ الْيُسْرَى ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ بِصَوْتٍ كَأَنَّهُ بَاكٍ- يَا سَيِّدِي تُعَذِّبُنِي وَ حُبُّكَ فِي قَلْبِي أَمَا وَ عِزَّتِكَ لَئِنْ فَعَلْتَ لَتَجْمَعَنَّ بَيْنِي وَ بَيْنَ قَوْمٍ طَالَ مَا عَادَيْتُهُمْ فِيكَ.
10. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn abu Hamza from his father who has said the following: “Once I saw Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) praying in the vicinity of al-Ka’bah in the night. He prolonged in standing so much so that he would lean on his right leg once and then on the left leg. Then I heard him saying with a crying voice, ‘O my Master, will You punish me while there is Your love in my heart? If You will do so You will be placing me together with the people with whom, just for Your sake, I had been enemies all along.’”
