بَابُ الْعَدَسِ‌

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ أَكْلُ الْعَدَسِ يُرِقُّ الْقَلْبَ وَ يُكْثِرُ الدَّمْعَةَ.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Eating lintels softens the heart and increases tears.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ فُرَاتِ بْنِ أَحْنَفَ‌

أَنَّ بَعْضَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ شَكَا إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قَسْوَةَ الْقَلْبِ وَ قِلَّةَ الدَّمْعَةِ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ كُلِ الْعَدَسَ فَأَكَلَ الْعَدَسَ فَرَقَّ قَلْبُهُ وَ جَرَتْ دَمْعَتُهُ

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Furat ibn Ahnaf (in a Maqtu ’ manner) who has said the following: “A certain person of the Israelites complained before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, about hardheartedness and lack of tears. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, revealed to him to eat lintels. He followed the instruction and his tears began to flow.’”

عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ:

شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ص قَسَاوَةَ الْقَلْبِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلَيْكَ بِالْعَدَسِ فَإِنَّهُ يُرِقُّ الْقَلْبَ وَ يُسْرِعُ الدَّمْعَةَ.

3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that once a man complained before the Holy Prophet, about hardheartedness. He (the Messenger of Allah) told him to eat lintels; it softens the heart and makes tears to flow quicker.’”

عَنْهُ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَيْضِ قَالَ:

أَكَلْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ‌ ع مَرَقَةً بِعَدَسٍ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ الْعَدَسَ قَدَّسَ عَلَيْهِ ثَمَانُونَ نَبِيّاً قَالَ كَذَبُوا لَا وَ اللَّهِ وَ لَا عِشْرُونَ نَبِيّاً. - وَ رُوِيَ‌ أَنَّهُ يُرِقُّ الْقَلْبَ وَ يُسْرِعُ الدَّمْعَةَ.

4. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Dawud ibn Ishaq al-Hadhdha’ from Muhammad ibn al-Fayd who has said the following: “I once ate with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), broth with lintels and I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, these people say that lintels are blessed by seventy Prophets.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They have spoken a lie, no, by Allah not even twenty Prophets have done so.’ It is narrated that it softens the heart and makes the tears to flow quicker.”
