Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ari from MuAlia ibn Muhammad from abu Dawud al-Mustariqq who has said that Dawad al-Jassas who said: I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) say about the words of Allah, “Through the signs and with the star people do find their way.” (16:16) “The star is the Messenger of Allah (sw) and the signs are the Imams (a.s.)”

دَخَلَ رَجُلَانِ عَلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع فَأَلْقَى لِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا وِسَادَةً فَقَعَدَ عَلَيْهَا أَحَدُهُمَا وَ أَبَى الْآخَرُ فَقَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع اقْعُدْ عَلَيْهَا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَأْبَى الْكَرَامَةَ إِلَّا حِمَارٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِذَا أَتَاكُمْ كَرِيمُ قَوْمٍ فَأَكْرِمُوهُ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ari from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Qaddah from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Once two men came to Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) he prepared one seat for each one. One of them sat on the seat but the other refused. Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) said to him, ‘Take your seat; no one refuses to appreciate being honored except a donkey.’ The Imam then said, ‘The Messenger of Allah has said, “When the honorable person of a people comes to you, you must treat him with honor.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يَنْبَغِي لِمَنْ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ إِذَا مَرَّ بِآيَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ فِيهَا مَسْأَلَةٌ أَوْ تَخْوِيفٌ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ اللَّهَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ خَيْرَ مَا يَرْجُو وَ يَسْأَلَهُ الْعَافِيَةَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One, when reading from the Holy Quran, should, upon coming across a verse that speaks of prayer or warning, ask Allah for what is good that one hopes for and for safety from fire and torment.’”

Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from Sa‘id al- Bayya’ al-Sabiriy who has said the following: “I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Can a person weep during Salah (prayer)?’ The Imam replied, ‘It is a matter of great congratulations even if it (tears) is of the size of the head of a fly.’”

3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Abd Allah al-‘Alawi from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, ‘When ‘Adi ibn Hatim came to the Holy Prophet, he brought him (‘Adi) to his house. In his house there was nothing to use as a seat except a sack (storage for dates) and a pillow made of animal skin. With such items the Messenger of Allah prepared a seat for ‘Adi ibn Hatim.’”

3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘What should a man who performs Salah (prayer) with an Imam do if they come across a verse that speaks of paradise or fire?’ The Imam said, ‘In such case (during prayer) he may ask Allah for protection against fire or for admission in paradise.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about reading a chapter of the book in the form of an appeal for help in Salah (prayer) like Chapter 112. He (the Imam) said, ‘If you read it in the form of appeal for help it is not harmful.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Whatever (words) with which you speak to Allah in Salah (prayer) is not harmful.’” (Ahadith 4-5 of this Chapter are best explained by fatwas.)
