إِنَّ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ ع لَمَّا حَضَرَهُ الَّذِي حَضَرَهُ دَعَا ابْنَتَهُ الْكُبْرَى فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فَدَفَعَ إِلَيْهَا كِتَاباً مَلْفُوفاً وَ وَصِيَّةً ظَاهِرَةً وَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع مَبْطُوناً مَعَهُمْ لَا يَرَوْنَ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لِمَا بِهِ فَدَفَعَتْ فَاطِمَةُ الْكِتَابَ إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع ثُمَّ صَارَ وَ اللَّهِ ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ‌ إِلَيْنَا يَا زِيَادُ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا فِي ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابِ جَعَلَنِيَ اللَّهُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ فِيهِ وَ اللَّهِ مَا يَحْتَاجُ إِلَيْهِ وُلْدُ آدَمَ مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ آدَمَ إِلَى أَنْ تَفْنَى الدُّنْيَا وَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فِيهِ الْحُدُودَ حَتَّى إِنَّ فِيهِ أَرْشَ الْخَدْشِ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn and Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Isma‘il from Mansur ibn Yunus from abu al-Jarud from abu Ja‘far (a.s.) who has said the following. “When al-Husayn ibn Ali (a.s.) was about to leave this world he called his eldest daughter, Fatima and gave her a sealed document and openly before the people his directive will. Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) was ill with some internal illness and the people would see as dying. Fatima then gave the document to Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.). Thereafter, that document, by Allah, came to us, O Ziyad.” The narrator has said that he asked the the Imam (a.s.). “What is in that document, May Allah take my soul in service for your cause?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “In it there is all that the children of Adam needed from the day Allah created Adam to the end of the world. In it there is the law of penalties and even the rules of compensation for an scratch on a victim’s body.”

2. A number of our people has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from ibn Sinan from abu al-Jarud from abu Ja‘far (a.s.) who has said the following. “When al-Husayn (a.s.) was about to leave this world he gave his directive will to his daughter, Fatima in a sealed document before the people onpenly. When what had to happen to al-Husayn (a.s.) did happen she gave it to Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s..” The narrator has said that then he asked the Imam (a.s.). “What was in it, may Allah grant you blessings?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “It contained all that the children of Adam would need from the beginning of the world until it will end.”

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from Jamil ibn Darraj from Muhammad ibn Muslim and Zurarah who have said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Friday Salah (prayer) is not obligatory upon those who are two farsakh (about six miles) away (from the location of the congregation).”’

A number of our people has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sayf ibn ‘Amira from abu Bakr al-Hadrami from abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) who has said the following. “When al-Husayn (a.s.) was about to leave for Iraq he entrusted ’Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) with the books and directive will. When Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) returned (to Madina) she delivered them to him. According to the manuscript of al-Safwan the hadith reads as follows:

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ تَجِبُ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ مِنْهَا عَلَى رَأْسِ فَرْسَخَيْنِ فَإِذَا زَادَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْ‌ءٌ.

3. Ali has narrated from his father from Hammad from Hariz from ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘It (Friday Salah (prayer)) is obligatory up on those who live within two farsakh. If the distance is more than this then it is not obligatory on him.’”

وَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَجَالِسٌ عِنْدَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ عِنْدَهُ وُلْدُهُ إِذْ جَاءَهُ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع فَخَلَا بِهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص أَخْبَرَنِي أَنِّي سَأُدْرِكُ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ يُكَنَّى أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ فَإِذَا أَدْرَكْتَهُ فَأَقْرِئْهُ مِنِّي السَّلَامَ قَالَ وَ مَضَى جَابِرٌ وَ رَجَعَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع فَجَلَسَ مَعَ أَبِيهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع وَ إِخْوَتِهِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع أَيَّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَالَ لَكَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَقَالَ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص قَالَ إِنَّكَ سَتُدْرِكُ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِيَ اسْمُهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ يُكَنَّى أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ فَأَقْرِئْهُ مِنِّي السَّلَامَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُوهُ هَنِيئاً لَكَ يَا بُنَيَّ مَا خَصَّكَ اللَّهُ بِهِ مِنْ رَسُولِهِ مِنْ بَيْنِ أَهْلِ بَيْتِكَ‌ لَا تُطْلِعْ إِخْوَتَكَ عَلَى هَذَا فَيَكِيدُوا لَكَ كَيْداً كَمَا كَادُوا إِخْوَةُ يُوسُفَ لِيُوسُفَ ع.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hanan ibn Sadir from Falih ibn Abu Bakr al-Shaybani who has said the following. “ I swear by Allah, I was sitting in the presence of Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) whose sons also were there when Jabir ibn ‘Abdallah al-Ansari came. He offered his greeting then he held the hand of Abu Ja‘far (a.s.) and took him aside for privacy and said, “The Messenger of Allah informed me that I would find my self with a man from Ahl al-Bayt (family the Holy Prophet (s.w) who would be called ‘Muhammad ibn Ali’ also called Abu Ja‘far (father of Ja‘far). When Abu Ja‘far returned to the meeting he sat near his father, Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) and his brothers. When the Imam performed the Maghrib prayer (the prayer at sun set, Ali ibn al-Husayn asked Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), “What did Jabir ibn ‘Abdallah al-Ansari say to you?” He (Abu Ja‘far ) said, “Jabir said that the Messenger of Allah said to him the following, “You will soon find yourself with a man from my Ahl al-Bayt (my family) whose name is Muhammad ibn Ali also called Abu Ja‘far (father of Ja‘far). Convey that offer him greetings.” His father (Abu Ja‘far’s father) then said, “Success for you, my son, for what Allah has granted to you exclusively from His messenger from among the members of your family. Do not tell it to your brothers lest they may plan against you a plot as his brothers plotted against Joseph.”

Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amir from Ali ibn Mahziyar from Fadalah from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from abu al-‘Abbas who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Minimum number of attending people for Friday Salah (prayer) is seven or at least five people.’”

يَكُونُ بَيْنَ الْجَمَاعَتَيْنِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَمْيَالٍ يَعْنِي لَا يَكُونُ جُمُعَةٌ إِلَّا فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَمْيَالٍ‌ وَ لَيْسَ تَكُونُ جُمُعَةٌ إِلَّا بِخُطْبَةٍ قَالَ فَإِذَا كَانَ بَيْنَ الْجَمَاعَتَيْنِ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ ثَلَاثَةُ أَمْيَالٍ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يُجَمِّعَ هَؤُلَاءِ وَ يُجَمِّعَ هَؤُلَاءِ.

7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Jamil from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘There must be a distance of three miles between two congregations for Friday Salah (prayer). Friday Salah (prayer) without sermon is not valid. If there is a distance of three miles between two congregation for Friday Salah (prayer), then each congregation can come together (for Friday Salah (prayer)).”’

فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ خَمْساً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ صَلَاةً مِنْهَا صَلَاةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَرَضَهَا اللَّهُ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ وَ هِيَ الْجُمُعَةُ وَ وَضَعَهَا عَنْ تِسْعَةٍ عَنِ الصَّغِيرِ وَ الْكَبِيرِ وَ الْمَجْنُونِ وَ الْمُسَافِرِ وَ الْعَبْدِ وَ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ الْمَرِيضِ وَ الْأَعْمَى وَ مَنْ كَانَ عَلَى رَأْسِ فَرْسَخَيْنِ.

6. Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from all from Flammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘From one Friday to the next Friday Allah has made thirty- five Salah (prayer) obligatory. Of these one is made obligatory to be performed in congregation and that is Friday Salah (prayer). He has exempted nine kinds of people: Of such people are children, the elderly, the insane, the travelers, the slaves, the women, people suffering from illness, the blind and those who live beyond two farsakh.’”
