عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الْعَلَوِيِّ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الْعَسْكَرِيَّ ع يَقُولُ‌ الْخَلَفُ مِنْ بَعْدِي الْحَسَنُ فَكَيْفَ لَكُمْ بِالْخَلَفِ مِنْ بَعْدِ الْخَلَفِ فَقُلْتُ وَ لِمَ جَعَلَنِيَ اللَّهُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَرَوْنَ شَخْصَهُ- وَ لَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ ذِكْرُهُ بِاسْمِهِ فَقُلْتُ فَكَيْفَ نَذْكُرُهُ فَقَالَ قُولُوا الْحُجَّةُ مِنْ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلَامُهُ.

1. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from the person whose name he mentioned from Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-‘Alawi from Dawud ibn al-Qasim al-Ja‘fari who has said the following. “I heard abu al-Hassan al-‘Skari (a.s.) saying, ‘The succeeding Imam after me will be al-Hassan (a.s.). How will it be for you in the case of the succeeding Imam after the Imam succeeding myself?” I then asked, “ May Allah take my souls in service for your cause, why will that be so?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “You will not see his person and it will not be permissible for you to mention his name.” I then asked, “How then will we speak of him?” The Imam (a.s.) said, “Say, al-Hujja, (th Leader with Divine Authority) from the family of Muhammad (s.a).”

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, from Safwan ibn Yahya from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who wants to travel. Where is he required to apply the rules about journey? He (the Imam) said, ‘He must apply them where houses become invisible to him? I then asked, ‘A man begins his journey on Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime). What is he required to do? 5 He (the Imam) said, ‘When you come out perform two Rak‘at Salah prayers).’ Also al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id has narrated from, Safwan and Fadalah from al-‘Ala’ a similar Hadith.”

Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from abu ‘Abdallah al-Salihi who has said the following. “After abu Muhammad had passed away certain individuals of our community asked me to ask about the name (of the twelfth Imam (a.s.) and his place. The following came as the reply. “If you would guide them to the name they will publicize it. If they would know the place they will show it to others.”

Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from al-‘Ala’ ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Washsha’ who has said the following: “I once heard al-Rida’ (a.s.), say, ‘At Zawal (declining of the sun toward the west at noontime) if you are in a city and want to travel, if you go out after Zawal perform al-‘Asr Salah in the reduced form.’”

A number of our people has narrated from Ja’far ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from al-Rayyan ibn as-Salt who has said the following. “I heard abu al-Hassan al-Rida (a.s.) say, when asked al-Qa’im (the one who will establish the kingdom of All), ‘He will not be seen physically nor his very name will particularly be mentioned.”

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from Dawud ibn Farqad from Bashir al-Nabbal who has said the following: “Once abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and I traveled until we were at al-Shajarah. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said to me, ‘O Nabbal.’ I replied, ‘Yes Imam, I am here.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘In this group no one other than you and I, are required to perform our Salah (prayer) in four Rak‘at because it became the time for Salah (prayer), thereafter we came out.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad, from Hariz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who returns from his journey when it has become the time for a Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘He is required to perform his Salah (prayer) as two Rak‘at and if he goes out on a journey when it has become the time for Salah (prayer) he is required to perform his Salah (prayer) as four Rak‘at.’”

Ahmad ibn Idris has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Safwan ibn Yahya from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: I once asked abu Ibrahim (a.s.), about a man who is on a journey, returns and arrives among the houses of al-Kufah. Is he required to perform his Salah (prayer) complete or as reduced until he comes to his family? He (the Imam) said, ‘He is required to perform his Salah (prayer) as reduced until he comes to his family.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Safwan from ‘Is ibn al-Qasim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who on a journey performs Salah (prayer) in complete form. He (the Imam) said, ‘If there is time for it he is required to perform his Salah (prayer) again, otherwise, it is passed.’”

7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who misses a Salah (prayer) while on a journey and remembers it when he is at home. He (the Imam) said, ‘He performs Qada’ (compensatory prayer) for it just as it was missed, if missed on a journey the compensatory prayer for it at home is as reduced and if it is missed at home the compensatory prayer for it, if performed on a journey, is complete.’”

8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Ali ibn Yaqtin who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about a man who is on a journey and during performing a Salah (prayer) he decides to stay there for ten days. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he decides to stay for ten days, he is required to perform his Salah (prayer) complete.’” (The following chapter is best explained in the form of fatwa.)
