The Carrot

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Ali and others from Dawud ibn Farqad who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’Eating carrot warms up the kidneys and causes erection.”’

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Musa from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Jallab from Musa ibn ’Isma‘il from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ’Carrot is protection against colic pain, hemorrhoid, and helps in going to bed with one’s wife.’”

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from his father from Dawud ibn Farqad who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.), saying, ’Eating carrot warms up the kidneys and causes erection.’ He (the narrator) has said that he asked, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, how should I eat it when I have no teeth?’ He (the Imam) said, ’Order the girl to boil it, then eat.’”
