One’s Experiencing Carnal Relations and Having Only Ice

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَجْنَبَ فِي السَّفَرِ وَ لَمْ يَجِدْ إِلَّا الثَّلْجَ أَوْ مَاءً جَامِداً فَقَالَ هُوَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الضَّرُورَةِ يَتَيَمَّمُ وَ لَا أَرَى أَنْ يَعُودَ إِلَى هَذِهِ الْأَرْضِ الَّتِي تُوبِقُ دِينَهُ.

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who experiences sexual relation during a journey and cannot find anything other than snow or ice. He (the Imam) said, ’This is like an emergency case and he must take Tayammum. I do not consider it proper for him to return to such land which ruins his religion.’”

قَالَ: إِنْ أَجْنَبَ فَعَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ عَلَى مَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ وَ إِنِ احْتَلَمَ تَيَمَّمَ.

“(He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘If he experiences sexual relation, he must take Ghusl (bath), but if it is a wet dream, he must take Tayammum.’”

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَصَابَتْهُ الْجَنَابَةُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ يَخَافُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ التَّلَفَ إِنِ اغْتَسَلَ قَالَ يَتَيَمَّمُ وَ يُصَلِّي فَإِذَا أَمِنَ الْبَرْدَ اغْتَسَلَ وَ أَعَادَ الصَّلَاةَ[3].

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of one who experiences sexual relation during a cold night and is afraid for his life due to Ghusl (bath) because of cold. He (the Imam) said, ‘One must take Tayammum to perform Salah (prayer) and when safe from cold, take Ghusl (bath) and perform such Salah (prayer)
