The Case of a Certain amount of Mahr for a Woman and a Payment to Her Father

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ لَوْ أَنَّ رَجُلًا تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً وَ جَعَلَ مَهْرَهَا عِشْرِينَ أَلْفاً وَ جَعَلَ لِأَبِيهَا عَشَرَةَ آلَافٍ كَانَ الْمَهْرُ جَائِزاً وَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لِأَبِيهَا فَاسِداً.

“I once heard al-Rida’ (a.s.), saying, ‘If a man marries a woman for a mahr (dower) of twenty thousand of which ten thousand is for her father, mahr (dower) is permissible but that which is for her father is invalid.’”
