عَقَّ أَبُو طَالِبٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص يَوْمَ السَّابِعِ وَ دَعَا آلَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَالُوا مَا هَذِهِ فَقَالَ عَقِيقَةُ أَحْمَدَ قَالُوا لِأَيِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ سَمَّيْتَهُ أَحْمَدَ قَالَ سَمَّيْتُهُ أَحْمَدَ لِمَحْمَدَةِ أَهْلِ السَّمَاءِ وَ الْأَرْضِ.
