سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- فَمَا اسْتَكانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَ ما يَتَضَرَّعُونَ فَقَالَ الِاسْتِكَانَةُ هُوَ الْخُضُوعُ وَ التَّضَرُّعُ هُوَ رَفْعُ الْيَدَيْنِ وَ التَّضَرُّعُ بِهِمَا.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from abu Ayyub from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Once I asked abu Ja’far (a.s.) about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘. . . but they did not ‘Istakanu (submit themselves to their Lord,) nor did they make themselves humble ( yatadarra’un ).’ (23:76) The Imam said, ’’Al-Tstikana, means humility and al- tadarru’ means raising both hands and begging for help from (Allah) with both hands.’”

[1]الآية في سورة المؤمنون 75 هكذا« وَ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ عَنِ الصِّراطِ لَناكِبُونَ* وَ لَوْ رَحِمْناهُمْ وَ كَشَفْنا ما بِهِمْ مِنْ ضُرٍّ لَلَجُّوا فِي طُغْيانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ* وَ لَقَدْ أَخَذْناهُمْ بِالْعَذابِ فَمَا اسْتَكانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ» أى ما تواضعوا و ما انقادوا« وَ ما يَتَضَرَّعُونَ» أى و ما يرغبون إلى اللّه في الدعاء و قال أبو عبد اللّه عليه السلام: الاستكانة في الدعاء و التضرع رفع الدين في الصلاة قاله الطبرسيّ.ص 480
