7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from certain individuals of his people from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘The Holy Quran is not to be used for omens or prophecy.’”

[1]كان المراد النهى عن استفسار وقوع الأشياء في المستقبل و بيان الأمور الخفية من القرآن لا الاستخارة لانه قد ورد الخبر بجوازه- كذا افيد- و لعلّ الأظهر عدم التفؤل عند سماع آية أو رؤيتها كما هو داب العرب في التفؤل و التطير و لا يبعد أن يكون السر فيه أنّه يصير سببا لسوء عقيدتهم في القرآن إن لم يظهر أثره( آت).ص 629
