بَابُ عِتْقِ الصَّغِيرِ وَ الشَّيْخِ الْكَبِيرِ وَ أَهْلِ الزَّمَانَاتِ‌

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ قَالَ:

كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ع وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُعْتِقُ غُلَاماً صَغِيراً أَوْ شَيْخاً كَبِيراً أَوْ مَنْ بِهِ زَمَانَةٌ وَ مَنْ لَا حِيلَةَ لَهُ فَقَالَ مَنْ أَعْتَقَ مَمْلُوكاً لَا حِيلَةَ لَهُ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَعُولَهُ حَتَّى يَسْتَغْنِيَ عَنْهُ وَ كَذَلِكَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع يَفْعَلُ إِذَا أَعْتَقَ الصِّغَارَ وَ مَنْ لَا حِيلَةَ لَهُ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ibn Mahboub who said, ‘I wrote to Abu Al-Hassan Al-Reza asws and asked him asws about the man who emancipated a young boy, or an old Sheykh, one with chronic illness, and the one for whom there is no dodge for him. So he asws said: ‘The one who emancipates an owned slave for whom there is no means (of earning) for him, so upon him is that he shelters him until he is self-sufficient from him, and similar to that is what Amir Al-Momineen asws did, when he asws emancipated the young and the one for whom there is no means (of earning)’.

مُحَمَّدٌ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ‌ وَ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ع قَالَ:

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ يُعْتِقُهُ الرَّجُلُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ قَدْ أَعْتَقَ عَلِيٌّ ع وِلْدَاناً كَثِيرَةً.

Muhammad, from Ahmad, from Ali Bin Al Hakam, and Safwan Bin Yahya, from Al Aa’la Bin Razeyn, from Muhammad Bin Muslim, (It has been narrated) from one of the two (5 th or 6 th Imam asws ), said, ‘I asked him asws about the children whom the man emancipates. So he asws said: ‘Yes, Ali asws had emancipated numerous children’.

سَأَلْتُهُ عَمَّنْ أَعْتَقَ النَّسَمَةَ فَقَالَ أَعْتَقَ مَنْ أَغْنَى نَفْسَهُ.

Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from his father, from Muhammad Bin Isa, from Mansour Bin Hazim, from Hisham Bin Salim, (It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullah asws , said, ‘I asked him asws about the emancipation of the women. So he asws said: ‘Emancipate one who can be self-sufficient herself’.
