1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban from Zurarah and ’Isma‘il al-Ju‘fiy who has said the following: “Zurarah and ’Isma’il al-Ju‘fiy had asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about the prey which is killed by flareless arrow. He (the Imam) said, ’It is not unlawful if it is what you have shot and it is what you have made for it.’”

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Once abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about the prey that falls because of flareless arrow. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he does not have any other arrow and has mentioned the name of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, he can use it for food. If he has other arrows then he cannot use it for food.’”

3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from abu ‘ Ubaydah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If you shoot the prey with flareless arrow and if it pierces into the prey you can use it for food; but if it does not pierce into the prey and hits it widthwise, then do not use it for food.”’

Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from all from Safwan ibn Yahya from ibn Muskan from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a prey that is shot by a man with an arrow and it hits widthwise and kills it. He had mentioned the name of Allah when shooting but no iron has hit the prey. He (the Imam) said, ‘If the arrow that has hit is the one that has caused its death and he has seen it, he can use it for food.’”

5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from abu al-Mighra’ from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a prey which is hit by an arrow widthwise and no iron part has hit it. He had mentioned the name of Allah when shooting. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can use it for food if it hits and he sees it hitting.’ I asked him (the Imam) about hunting with flareless arrows. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he has no other arrow and he has mentioned the name of Allah when shooting, he can use it for food; but if he had other arrows then he cannot use it for food.’”
