عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ:

الْحَيَاءُ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ وَ الْإِيمَانُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from Ali ibn Ri’ab from abu ‘Ubayda al-Hadhdha’ from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Bashfulness is from belief and belief is in paradise.’”

قَالَ مُوسَى ع يَا رَبِّ مِنْ أَيْنَ الدَّاءُ قَالَ مِنِّي قَالَ فَالشِّفَاءُ قَالَ مِنِّي قَالَ فَمَا يَصْنَعُ عِبَادُكَ بِالْمُعَالِجِ قَالَ يَطِيبُ بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ فَيَوْمَئِذٍ سُمِّيَ الْمُعَالِجُ الطَّبِيبَ‌.

52. Muhammad, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad, from Ali Bin Al-Hakam, from Ziyad Bin Al-Hallaah, the following: Abu Abdullah (asws) having said: ‘(Prophet) Musa (as) said: ‘O Lord (azwj)! Where does illness come from?’ He (azwj) Said: “From Me (azwj)”. He said: ‘And the cure?’ He (azwj) Said: “From Me (azwj)”. He said: ‘So what do Your servants do with the healer?’ He (azwj) Said: “They soothe themselves by him”. These days the healer is called the Doctor’.

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ibn Muskan from al-Hassan al-Sayqal from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Bashfulness, chastity, tiredness of tongue (to shun speaking useless things), not tiredness of the heart, are from belief.’”

3. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Nahdi from Mus’ab ibn Yazid from al -‘Awwam ibn al-Zubayr from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘One whose face is thin (bashful and shy) has thin knowledge.’”

[2]المراد برقة الوجه الاستحياء عن السؤال و طلب العلم و هو مذموم، فانه لاحياء في طلب لعلم و لا في إظهار الحق و إنّما الحياء عن الامر القبيح، قال اللّه تعالى:« وَ اللَّهُ لا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ» ورقة العلم كناية عن قلته: و ما قيل: إن المراد برقة الوجه قلة الحياء فضعفه ظاهر( آت).ص 106

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ يَحْيَى أَخِي دَارِمٍ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ع قَالَ:

الْحَيَاءُ وَ الْإِيمَانُ مَقْرُونَانِ فِي قَرَنٍ‌ فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ أَحَدُهُمَا تَبِعَهُ صَاحِبُهُ.

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Yahya brother of Daram from Mu’adh ibn Kathir from one of the two Imam (abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.)) who has said the following: “Bashfulness and belief are tied with the same rope. If one of them goes away, the other also follows its companion.”

5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Yaqtin from al-Fadl ibn Kathir from those whom he has mentioned (in his book) from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘One has no belief if he does not have bashfulness.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ الْحَيَاءُ حَيَاءَانِ حَيَاءُ عَقْلٍ وَ حَيَاءُ حُمْقٍ فَحَيَاءُ الْعَقْلِ هُوَ الْعِلْمُ وَ حَيَاءُ الْحُمْقِ هُوَ الْجَهْلُ.

6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from certain individuals of our people in a marfu’ manner from the Messenger of Allah who has said the following: “There are two kinds of bashfulness: A bashfulness that comes from one’s reason and the bashfulness that comes from one’s foolishness. The bashfulness that comes from one’s reason is knowledge and the bashfulness that comes from one’s foolishness is ignorance.”
