كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- إِنَّ فِي ذلِكَ‌ لَآياتٍ لِلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ‌ وَ إِنَّها لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ‌ قَالَ فَقَالَ نَحْنُ الْمُتَوَسِّمُونَ وَ السَّبِيلُ فِينَا مُقِيمٌ.

1. Ahmad ibn Mahran has narrated from ‘Abd al-‘Azim ibn ‘Abdallah al-Hasani from ibn abu‘Umayr who has said the following. “Asbat Bayya‘ al-Zattiyy has said that once he was in the presence of abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) when a man asked him about the meaning of the following words of Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High. “In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the distinguished ones. (15:75) That town lies on a road which still exists (15:76) The Imam (a.s.) said, “We are the distiguished people and the (right) path is with us.”

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَقْسِمُ لَحَظَاتِهِ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ فَيَنْظُرُ إِلَى ذَا وَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى ذَا بِالسَّوِيَّةِ قَالَ وَ لَمْ يَبْسُطْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص رِجْلَيْهِ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ قَطُّ وَ إِنْ كَانَ لَيُصَافِحُهُ الرَّجُلُ فَمَا يَتْرُكُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَدَهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ حَتَّى يَكُونَ هُوَ التَّارِكَ فَلَمَّا فَطَنُوا لِذَلِكَ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ إِذَا صَافَحَهُ قَالَ بِيَدِهِ فَنَزَعَهَا مِنْ يَدِهِ.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al- Washsha’ from Jamil ibn Darraj from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah would look to every one of his companions in equal proportions of time. He would look to this and then to that person. The Messenger of Allah was never seen stretching his legs in a gathering of his companions. When he would shake hands, with a person, the Messenger of Allah would not pull back his hand before the other man. When they noticed it thereafter a man shaking hands with him would pull his hand away quickly.”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘The entire forehead, from the hairline to the eyebrows is for Sajdah (prostration). Whatever of this area falls on the ground of the size of a dirham or of the size of a finger’s tip is sufficient.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Salamah ibn al-Khattab that Yahya ibn Ibrahim who has said the following. “Asbat ibn Salim has said that once he was in the presence of abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) when a man from the people of Hiyt came and said, ‘May grant you well-being, what is the meaning of the words of Allah, the Most Holy, “In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the distinguished ones.”? Muhammad ibn Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from Hammad ibn ’Isa from Rib’i ibn ‘Abdallah from Muhammad ibn Muslim from abu Ja‘far (a.s.) who has said the following about the words of Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High. “In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the distinguished ones.” (15:75) “The Imam (a.s.) said, “The distinguished people are the Imams (a.s.) the Holy Prophet has said, “Be on your guard from the intelligence of the believers. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfali from al-Sakuni from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever loves his Muslim brother should ask what his name, the name of his father, his tribe and family is. It is of necessary rights and truthful brotherhood (friendship) to ask such questions; otherwise, it is a foolish recognition.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Kufi from ‘Ubays ibn Hisham from ‘Adallah ibn Sulayman from abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) who has said the following about the words of Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High. “In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the distinguished ones.” (15:75) The Imams (a.s.) said, “These people are the Imams (a.s.) and the evidence will never depart us.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَوْماً لِجُلَسَائِهِ‌ تَدْرُونَ مَا الْعَجْزُ قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ فَقَالَ الْعَجْزُ ثَلَاثَةٌ أَنْ يَبْدُرَ أَحَدُكُمْ بِطَعَامٍ يَصْنَعُهُ لِصَاحِبِهِ فَيُخْلِفَهُ وَ لَا يَأْتِيَهُ وَ الثَّانِيَةُ أَنْ يَصْحَبَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْكُمُ الرَّجُلَ أَوْ يُجَالِسَهُ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَعْلَمَ مَنْ هُوَ وَ مِنْ أَيْنَ هُوَ فَيُفَارِقَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَعْلَمَ ذَلِكَ وَ الثَّالِثَةُ أَمْرُ النِّسَاءِ يَدْنُو أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ فَيَقْضِي حَاجَتَهُ وَ هِيَ لَمْ تَقْضِ حَاجَتَهَا فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ فَكَيْفَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ يَتَحَوَّشُ‌ وَ يَمْكُثُ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ ذَلِكَ مِنْهُمَا جَمِيعاً قَالَ وَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنَّ مِنْ أَعْجَزِ الْعَجْزِ رَجُلًا لَقِيَ رَجُلًا فَأَعْجَبَهُ نَحْوُهُ فَلَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ عَنِ اسْمِهِ وَ نَسَبِهِ وَ مَوْضِعِهِ.

4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Ya’qub ibn Yazid from Ali ibn Ja’far from ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Qudamah from his father from Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah one day said to the people in his meeting, ‘Do you know what is (of one’s) weakness?’ They said, ‘Allah and the Messenger of Allah know better.’ He then said, ‘There are three kinds of weaknesses: First, a friend prepares food for another friend but fails to keep his promise and does not come for food. Second, one of you meets a man and wants to know who he is but fails to acquire such information and he departs the man. Third, is about women, one becomes close to his wife and depletes his energy before she is satisfied.’ ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr al-‘As asked, ‘What should he do, O the Messenger of Allah?’ He said, ‘He should hold back until it comes from both of them in concert.’” “In another Hadith it is said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘The weakest of all is one who meets a man and is attracted to him but does not ask his name, his relationships or where he lives.’”

4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the place of Sujud (prostration) if it can be higher than the place where one stands. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it must be level.’ In another Hadith about the place of Sujud (prostration) which is higher than the place on which one stands, it is said that if it is of the height of a brick it is not harmful.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn Aslam from Ibrahim ibn Ayyub from ‘Amr ibn Shamir from Jabir from abu Ja‘far (a.s.) who has said the following. “Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (a.s.) has the following about the words of Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High. ““In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the distinguished ones.” (15:75) The Holy Prophet (s.a.) was the distinguished one and I was as such after him and the Imams from my children are the distinguished ones.” In a different copy it is narrated from Ahmad ibn Mahran from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn Aslam from Ibrahim ibn Ayyub through the chain of his narrators a similar Hadith.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Safwan ibn Yahya from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar from certain persons of his people from Musadif who has said the following: “On my forehead there was a dimple so I would perform Sajdah (prostration) on one side. Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), noticed it and asked, ‘What is this?’ I replied, ‘I cannot perform Sajdah (prostration) because of the pimple so I perform Sajdah (prostration) on one side.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not do so, instead make a dent, then place the dimple in the dent area so your forehead touches the ground.’”

Ahmad ibn Muhammad from through the chain of his narrators has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about the case of one on whose forehead there is something because of which he is not able to perform Sajdah (prostration) on it. He (the Imam) said, ‘He places his chin on the ground; Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has said, “They fall down on their chins prostrating.’”” (17:107)
