Friday Prayer Leader’s Getting ready for Friday Prayer, His Sermon and Quietly Listening

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يَنْبَغِي لِلْإِمَامِ الَّذِي يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ- يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَنْ يَلْبَسَ عِمَامَةً فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَ الصَّيْفِ وَ يَتَرَدَّى بِبُرْدٍ يَمَنِيٍّ أَوْ عَدَنِيٍّ وَ يَخْطُبَ وَ هُوَ قَائِمٌ يَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ وَ يُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُوصِي بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةً مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ صَغِيرَةً ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ وَ يُثْنِي عَلَيْهِ وَ يُصَلِّي

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is desirable for the Imam who delivers sermons for the people on Friday to wear turban in winter and a Yamaniy or ‘Adaniy gown. إِذَا خَطَبَ الْإِمَامُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَلَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ الْإِمَامُ مِنْ خُطْبَتِهِ وَ إِذَا فَرَغَ الْإِمَامُ مِنَ الْخُطْبَتَيْنِ تَكَلَّمَ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ أَنْ تُقَامَ الصَّلَاةُ فَإِنْ سَمِعَ الْقِرَاءَةَ أَوْ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ أَجْزَأَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When the Imam delivers the sermon on Friday, it is not desirable for anyone to speak until he completes the sermon. When the Imam completes the sermons he can speak until Salah (prayer) begins, regardless of whether he hears the recitation or not; it is sufficient.’”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ أَمَّا مَعَ الْإِمَامِ فَرَكْعَتَانِ وَ أَمَّا مَنْ يُصَلِّي وَحْدَهُ فَهِيَ أَرْبَعُ رَكَعَاتٍ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الظُّهْرِ يَعْنِي إِذَا كَانَ إِمَامٌ يَخْطُبُ فَأَمَّا إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ إِمَامٌ يَخْطُبُ فَهِيَ أَرْبَعُ رَكَعَاتٍ وَ إِنْ صَلَّوْا جَمَاعَةً.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Salah (prayer) on Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘With Imam it is two Rak‘at but if one performs it alone, it is four Rak‘at like al-Dhuhr Salah (prayer). فِي خُطْبَةِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ الْخُطْبَةُ الْأُولَى- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ نَحْمَدُهُ وَ نَسْتَعِينُهُ وَ نَسْتَغْفِرُهُ وَ نَسْتَهْدِيهِ وَ نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَ مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا مَنْ يَهْدِي اللَّهُ فَلَا مُضِلَّ لَهُ وَ مَنْ يُضْلِلْ‌ فَلا هادِيَ لَهُ‌ وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ انْتَجَبَه

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ بِأَذَانٍ وَ إِقَامَةٍ يَخْرُجُ الْإِمَامُ بَعْدَ الْأَذَانِ فَيَصْعَدُ الْمِنْبَرَ وَ يَخْطُبُ لَا يُصَلِّي النَّاسُ مَا دَامَ الْإِمَامُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ الْإِمَامُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ قَدْرَ مَا يَقْرَأُ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَفْتَتِحُ خُطْبَتَهُ ثُمَّ يَنْزِلُ فَيُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ بِهِمْ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى بِالْجُمُعَةِ و

“I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about Friday. He (the Imam) said, ‘It has Adhan and ‘Iqamah and the Imam comes out after Adhan, climbs the pulpit and delivers the sermon. People do not perform Salah (prayer) until the Imam is on the pulpit. He then sits on the pulpit for a time, which takes one to read Chapter 112

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ كُلُّ وَاعِظٍ قِبْلَةٌ يَعْنِي إِذَا خَطَبَ الْإِمَامُ النَّاسَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَنْبَغِي لِلنَّاسِ أَنْ يَسْتَقْبِلُوهُ.[3]

The Messenger of Allah has said, “All preachers are al- Qiblah, which means when the Imam delivers the sermon for the people on Friday it is appropriate for people to turn their faces to him.’”” (The following chapter is best explained in the form of fatwa.)
