Recitations on Friday and Night

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ اقْرَأْ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ بِالْجُمُعَةِ وَ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى‌ وَ فِي الْفَجْرِ بِسُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ بِالْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On Friday night recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and Sabbih Isma Rabbika al-‘A‘la In Friday morning recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and Chapter 112, and in Friday Salah (prayer) recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun.’”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع بِمَا أَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ اقْرَأْ فِي الْأُولَى بِسُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ثُمَّ اقْنُتْ حَتَّى تَكُونَا سَوَاءً.

‘In the first Rak‘at recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and in the second Rak‘at recite Chapter 112 then read Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) so both become equal.’”

إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَكْرَمَ بِالْجُمُعَةِ[1] الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَسَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص بِشَارَةً لَهُمْ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ‌[2] تَوْبِيخاً لِلْمُنَافِقِينَ وَ لَا يَنْبَغِي تَرْكُهَا فَمَنْ تَرَكَهَا مُتَعَمِّداً فَلَا صَلَاةَ لَهُ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah has granted honor to the believers by means of sending (Surah (chapter) of al-Jumu‘ah). سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الْجُمُعَةِ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُ وَحْدِي أَرْبَعاً أَجْهَرُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَ قَالَ اقْرَأْ بِسُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ[3].

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about recitation on Friday when I perform Salah (prayer) alone of four Rak‘at. Can I recite aloud? He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, you can recite aloud.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun on Friday.’”

يَرْجِعُ إِلَى سُورَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ.[1] - وَ رُوِيَ أَيْضاً يُتِمُّهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يَسْتَأْنِفُ.

“I once asked one of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about a man who intends to recite Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah on Friday but he recites Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad (Chapter 112). He (the Imam) said, ‘He can go back to Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah.’ It is also narrated that one completes it in two Rak‘at, then performs it ag

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ مَنْ صَلَّى الْجُمُعَةَ بِغَيْرِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ أَعَادَ الصَّلَاةَ[2] فِي سَفَرٍ أَوْ حَضَرٍ. - وَ رُوِيَ‌ لَا بَأْسَ فِي السَّفَرِ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ بِقُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one performs Friday Salah (prayer) without reciting Surah (chapter) al-Jumu‘ah and al-Munafiqun, he is required to perform his Salah (prayer) again, on a journey or at home.’ It is narrated that it is not an offense to recite Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, Chapter 112 on a journey.”
