لَيْسَ عَلَى الْبُقُولِ وَ لَا عَلَى الْبِطِّيخِ وَ أَشْبَاهِهِ زَكَاةٌ إِلَّا مَا اجْتَمَعَ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ غَلَّتِهِ فَبَقِيَ عِنْدَكَ سَنَةً.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Zakat is not due on legumes, melons and similar things except that if anything of grain accumulated with you remains for one year.”’
لَا حَتَّى يَحُولَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَوْلُ.
“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), was once asked about vegetables if there is Zakat on it, if sold in exchange for a great wealth. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, Zakat is not due on it (such wealth) unless it remains with one for one year (in store).”’
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع مَا فِي الْخُضَرِ قَالَ وَ مَا هِيَ قُلْتُ الْقَضْبُ[1] وَ الْبِطِّيخُ وَ مِثْلُهُ مِنَ الْخُضَرِ قَالَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا أَنْ يُبَاعَ مِثْلُهُ بِمَالٍ وَ يَحُولَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَوْلُ فَفِيهِ الصَّدَقَةُ وَ عَنِ الْغَضَاةِ مِنَ الْفِرْسِكِ وَ أَشْبَاهِهِ[2] فِيهِ زَكَاةٌ قَالَ لَا قُلْتُ فَثَمَنُهُ قَالَ مَا حَالَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَوْلُ مِنْ ثَمَنِهِ فَزَكِّهِ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘How much Zakat is on vegetables. He (the Imam) asked, ‘What is it?’ I replied, ‘Edible herbs, melons and similar things of legumes.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Zakat is not due on it unless it is sold in exchange for another kind of wealth and it remains with him for one year; then there
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع عَنِ الْأُشْنَانِ فِيهِ زَكَاةٌ فَقَالَ لَا.
“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), if there is Zakat on saltwort. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, Zakat is not due on it.’”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع عَنِ الْقُطْنِ وَ الزَّعْفَرَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا زَكَاةٌ قَالَ لَا.
“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about cotton and saffron if there is Zakat on it. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, Zakat is not due on it.’”
فِي الْبُسْتَانِ تَكُونُ فِيهِ مِنَ الثِّمَارِ مَا لَوْ بِيعَ كَانَ مَالًا هَلْ فِيهِ صَدَقَةٌ قَالَ لَا.
“I asked abu Ja‘far and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about a garden which has fruits that if sold becomes wealth and if there is Zakat on it. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, Zakat is not due on it.’”
