سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ لَا يُحَرِّمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ إِلَّا مَا أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ وَ شَدَّ الْعَظْمَ.
‘Breastfeeding does not bring unlawfulness unless it makes the flesh to grow and the bones to strengthen.’”
سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّضَاعِ مَا أَدْنَى مَا يُحَرِّمُ مِنْهُ قَالَ مَا أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ أَوِ الدَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ تَرَى وَاحِدَةً تُنْبِتُهُ فَقُلْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ [اثْنَتَانِ] قَالَ لَا فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَعُدُّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى بَلَغْتُ عَشْرَ رَضَعَاتٍ[1].
“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of breastfeeding and its minimum limit that brings unlawfulness. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is an amount of breastfeeding that makes the flesh or blood grow.’ He (the Imam) then asked, ‘Do you think once can do it?’ I replied, ‘I pray to Allah to

لَا بَأْسَ بِالرَّضْعَةِ وَ الرَّضْعَتَيْنِ وَ الثَّلَاثِ.
“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Breastfeeding once, twice or three times does not bring unlawfulness.’”
لَا يُحَرِّمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ إِلَّا مَا أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ وَ الدَّمَ.
‘Breastfeeding does not bring unlawfulness unless it grows flesh and blood.’”
قُلْتُ لَهُ يُحَرِّمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ الرَّضْعَةُ وَ الرَّضْعَتَانِ وَ الثَّلَاثَةُ فَقَالَ لَا إِلَّا مَا اشْتَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَظْمُ وَ نَبَتَ اللَّحْمُ.
“I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), if breastfeeding once or twice brought unlawfulness or three times. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, until it strengthens bones and grows flesh.’”
سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع عَنِ الرَّضَاعِ مَا يُحَرِّمُ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبِي ع عَنْهُ فَقَالَ وَاحِدَةٌ لَيْسَ بِهَا بَأْسٌ وَ ثِنْتَانِ حَتَّى بَلَغَ خَمْسَ رَضَعَاتٍ[1] قُلْتُ مُتَوَالِيَاتٍ أَوْ مَصَّةً بَعْدَ مَصَّةٍ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا قَالَ لَهُ وَ سَأَلَهُ آخَرُ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهَى بِهِ إِلَى تِسْعٍ وَ قَالَ مَا أَكْثَرَ مَا أُسْأَلُ عَنِ الرَّضَاعِ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِكَ
“This is concerning my question before abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about breastfeeding and who becomes unlawful for marriage thereby. He (the Imam) said, ‘A man once asked my father (a.s.), about it and he said that once has no affect, and twice until he counted up to ten times breastfeeding.’ I then asked, ‘Are they one aft

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ كَبِيرٍ فَرُبَّمَا كَانَ الْفَرَحُ وَ الْحَزَنُ الَّذِي يَجْتَمِعُ فِيهِ الرِّجَالُ وَ النِّسَاءُ فَرُبَّمَا اسْتَحْيَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ أَنْ تَكْشِفَ رَأْسَهَا عِنْدَ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي بَيْنَهَا وَ بَيْنَهُ الرَّضَاعُ وَ رُبَّمَا اسْتَخَفَّ الرَّجُلُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى ذَلِكَ فَمَا الَّذِي يُحَرِّمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ فَقَالَ مَا أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ وَ الدَّمَ فَقُلْتُ و
“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘I belong to a large family. On different occasions of happiness and sorrow during which men and women come together women feel shy removing their head scarf before men between whom there is breastfeeding relationship or men fear looking to that, so who becomes unlawful because of
لَا يُحَرِّمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعِ إِلَّا مَا شَدَّ الْعَظْمَ وَ أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ وَ أَمَّا الرَّضْعَةُ وَ الرَّضْعَتَانِ وَ الثَّلَاثُ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ عَشْراً إِذَا كُنَّ مُتَفَرِّقَاتٍ فَلَا بَأْسَ.
‘Breastfeeding does not bring unlawfulness unless it strengthens the bones and grows flesh, and one or two or three times breastfeeding even up to ten times on different times does not bring the unlawfulness affect.’”
