Medicine for a toothache

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ع يَقُولُ‌ دَوَاءُ الضِّرْسِ تَأْخُذُ حَنْظَلَةً فَتُقَشِّرُهَا ثُمَّ تَسْتَخْرِجُ دُهْنَهَا فَإِنْ كَانَ الضِّرْسُ مَأْكُولًا مُنْحَفِراً تُقَطِّرُ فِيهِ قَطَرَاتٍ وَ تَجْعَلُ مِنْهُ فِي قُطْنَةٍ شَيْئاً وَ تَجْعَلُ فِي جَوْفِ الضِّرْسِ وَ يَنَامُ صَاحِبُهُ مُسْتَلْقِياً يَأْخُذُهُ ثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ الضِّرْسُ لَا أَكْلَ فِيهِ وَ كَانَتْ رِيحاً قَطِّرْ فِي الْأُذُنِ الَّتِي

‘To cure the toothache, take colocynth (a bitter fruit), peel it, then extracts its oil. So if the tooth has a cavity, apply the drops by cotton, place it inside the cavity and lie down upon the back. He should do this for three nights. قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع جُعِلْتُ لَكَ الْفِدَاءَ إِنَّ النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ النُّجُومَ لَا يَحِلُّ النَّظَرُ فِيهَا وَ هِيَ تُعْجِبُنِي فَإِنْ كَانَتْ تُضِرُّ بِدِينِي فَلَا حَاجَةَ لِي فِي شَيْ‌ءٍ يُضِرُّ بِدِينِي وَ إِنْ كَانَتْ لَا تُضِرُّ بِدِينِي فَوَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَشْتَهِيهَا وَ أَشْتَهِي النَّظَرَ فِيهَا فَقَالَ لَيْسَ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ لَا تُضِرُّ بِدِينِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ تَنْظُرُونَ فِ

233. A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Ibn Fazzaal, from Al-Hassan Bin Asbaat, from Abdul Rahmaan Bin Sayaabat who said: I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s.), ‘May I be sacrificed for you (a.s.), the people are saying that it is not permissible to study the stars, and this has surprised me.
