Chapter on Supplication When Purchasing Animals

مَنِ اشْتَرَى دَابَّةً فَلْيَقُمْ مِنْ جَانِبِهَا الْأَيْسَرِ وَ يَأْخُذُ نَاصِيَتَهَا بِيَدِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَ يَقْرَأُ عَلَى رَأْسِهَا فَاتِحَةَ الْكِتَابِ وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ وَ آخِرَ الْحَشْرِ وَ آخِرَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قُلِ ادْعُوا اللَّهَ أَوِ ادْعُوا الرَّحْمنَ وَ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَمَانُ تِلْكَ الدَّابَّةِ مِنَ الْآفَاتِ.

إِذَا اشْتَرَيْتَ جَارِيَةً فَقُلِ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَشِيرُكَ وَ أَسْتَخِيرُكَ[2] وَ إِذَا اشْتَرَيْتَ دَابَّةً أَوْ رَأْساً فَقُلِ- اللَّهُمَّ قَدِّرْ لِي أَطْوَلَهُنَّ حَيَاةً وَ أَكْثَرَهُنَّ مَنْفَعَةً وَ خَيْرَهُنَّ عَاقِبَةً.

"When you purchase a bondwoman, say: O Allah (swt), I seek Your (swt) counsel and ask for Your (swt) guidance. And when you purchase an animal or livestock, say: O Allah (swt), decree for me the longest life, the greatest benefit, and the best outcome among them."
