سَأَلَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ أَنَا حَاضِرٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَا فَقَالَ فِي لَيْلَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَا حَتَّى بَلَغَ سِتَّ لَيَالٍ فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ هَا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ إِنَّ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص كَانَ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي شَهْرٍ وَ أَقَلَّ إِنَّ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُقْرَأُ هَذْرَمَةً وَ لَكِنْ يُرَتَّلُ تَرْتِيلًا إِذَا مَرَرْتَ بِآيَةٍ فِيهَا ذِكْرُ النَّارِ وَقَفْتَ عِنْدَهَا وَ تَعَوَّذْتَ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ- أَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي رَمَضَانَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ فَقَالَ لَا فَقَالَ فِي لَيْلَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَا فَقَالَ فِي ثَلَاثٍ فَقَالَ هَا وَ أَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ نَعَمْ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ لَا يُشْبِهُهُ شَيْءٌ مِنَ الشُّهُورِ لَهُ حَقٌّ وَ حُرْمَةٌ أَكْثِرْ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ.
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Ali ibn abu Hamza who has said the following: “Once, abu Basil’ asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) when I was also present, ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, can I read the Holy Quran in one night?’ The Imam said, ‘No.’ He then asked, ‘Can I read it in two nights?’ The Imam said, ‘No,’ until he reached six nights, the Imam (a.s.) made a hand gesture saying ‘Ha’ a,’ (a hint for approval). Then the Imam (a.s.) said, ‘O abu Muhammad, note that among the companions of Muhammad (a.s.) before you, there were those who would read the Holy Quran once in a month or less. The Holy Quran is not read in a big rush but it is read with proper elocution and distinct pronunciation. When you come across a verse that speaks of the fire you pause and ask Allah for protection.’ Abu Basir then asked, ‘Can I read the Holy Quran in the month of Ramadan once every night?’ The Imam said, ‘No.’ He then asked, ‘Can I read it in two nights?’ The Imam said, ‘No.’ He then asked, ‘Can I read it in three nights?’ The Imam said, ‘Ha’ a, ’ with a hand gesture for approval saying, ‘Yes, the month of Ramadan is not like the other months. It has its rights and respect. Increase in prayer as much as you can.’”

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ الْأَعْجَمِيَّ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لَيَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ بِعَجَمِيَّةٍ فَتَرْفَعُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عَلَى عَرَبِيَّةٍ.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim narrated from his father, from al-Nawfali, from al-Sakuni, from Abu Abdullah (as) who said: The Prophet (saw) said: "Indeed, a non-Arab man from my nation recites the Quran in a non-Arabic manner, and the angels elevate him to an Arabic level."

قُلْتُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّا نَسْمَعُ الْآيَاتِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ لَيْسَ هِيَ عِنْدَنَا كَمَا نَسْمَعُهَا وَ لَا نُحْسِنُ أَنْ نَقْرَأَهَا كَمَا بَلَغَنَا عَنْكُمْ فَهَلْ نَأْثَمُ فَقَالَ لَا اقْرَءُوا كَمَا تَعَلَّمْتُمْ فَسَيَجِيئُكُمْ مَنْ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ.
2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn Sulayman from certain individuals of his people from who has said the following: “Once I said to abu al-Hassan (a.s.) ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, we hear certain verses of the Holy Quran that we do not have with us as we hear them and we cannot read as good as we receive from you. Are we committing sins in this matter?’ The Imam said, ‘No, you are not committing any sins, read as you have learned. The one to teach you will come soon.’”

مَنْ قَرَأَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ مَرَّةً بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِ وَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَ عَلَى جِيرَانِهِ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ مَرَّةً بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ قَصْراً فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَيَقُولُ الْحَفَظَةُ اذْهَبُوا بِنَا إِلَى قُصُورِ أَخِينَا فُلَانٍ فَنَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهَا وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ غُفِرَتْ لَهُ ذُنُوبُ خَمْسٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ سَنَةً مَا خَلَا الدِّمَاءَ وَ الْأَمْوَالَ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا أَرْبَعَمِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُ أَرْبَعِمِائَةِ شَهِيدٍ- كُلُّهُمْ قَدْ عُقِرَ جَوَادُهُ وَ أُرِيقَ دَمُهُ وَ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا أَلْفَ مَرَّةٍ فِي يَوْمٍ وَ لَيْلَةٍ لَمْ يَمُتْ حَتَّى يَرَى مَقْعَدَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَوْ يُرَى لَهُ.
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Badr from Muhammad ibn Marwan from abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “Whoever reads Chapter 1 12 of the Holy Quran once receives blessings. Whoever reads it twice, he and his family receive blessings. Whoever reads it three times, he, his family and his neighbors receive blessings. Whoever reads it twelve times, Allah will build for him twelve palaces in paradise and the keepers will say, ‘We should go and see the palaces of our brother so and so.’ Whoever reads it one hundred times his sins of twenty-five years will be forgiven, except murders and properties. Whoever reads it four hundred times will receive a reward equal to that for four hundred martyrs, each of whom martyred after the destruction of his horse. Whoever reads it one thousand times in one day and night will not die before seeing his place in paradise or is shown for him (to a third party).”’
