7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from A number of his people from Ali ibn Asbat from abu Muhammad al-Jawhariy from Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah who has said the following: “I once heard Ja‘far ibn Muhammad (a.s.), saying, ‘Eating quince removes the intensity of sadness just as the hand wipes perspiration from the forehead.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘You can eat pears; it brightens the heart (mind) and calms down pains by the permission of Allah.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al- Washsha’ from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Pears tan (cleanses) the stomach and makes it strong. Pears and quince are the same. On a full stomach, it is more beneficial than before breakfast. If one feels depression and sadness in his heart he should eat pears after food.’”
