بَابُ الْخِلَالِ‌

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) has said, ‘ Jibril came to me with the toothpick.’”

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ قَالَ

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from abu Jamilah who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to me, ‘Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) with the toothbrush, toothpick and cupping.’”

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَ:

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَتَخَلَّلُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص كَانَ يَتَخَلَّلُ وَ هُوَ يُطَيِّبُ الْفَمَ.

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from Wahab ibn ‘Abd Rabbibhi who has said the following: “I once saw abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), using toothpicks and I looked at him (the Imam). He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah would use a toothpick; it cleanses the mouth.’”

نَاوَلَ النَّبِيُّ ص- جَعْفَرَ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ع خِلَالًا فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا جَعْفَرُ تَخَلَّلْ فَإِنَّهُ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلْفَمِ أَوْ قَالَ لِلِّثَةِ وَ مَجْلَبَةٌ لِلرِّزْقِ.

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ibrahim al-Hadhdha’ from Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Asadiy from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) once gave a toothpick to Ja‘far ibn abu Talib (a.s.), and said, ‘O Ja‘far use a toothpick. It is beneficial for the mouth’ or he said, ‘It is beneficial for the gums and attracts sustenance.’”

5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) has said, ‘You must use a toothpick it is beneficial for the gums and the molars.’”

7. A group of our companions narrated from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdullah, from his father, from Ali ibn al-Nu’man, from Ya'qub ibn Shu'ayb, from someone who informed him that Abu al-Hasan (a.s.) was brought a selection of prepared toothpicks while he was in the house of Fadl ibn Yunus. He took one piece from them and discarded the rest.

8. Ali ibn Ibrahim narrated from his father, from Ibn Abi Umayr, from Ibrahim ibn Abdul-Hamid, from Abu al-Hasan (a.s.), who said: "Do not use a basil twig or a pomegranate branch as a toothpick, for they both can stimulate the nerve of leprosy."

9. Ali narrated from Muhammad ibn Isa, from Yunus ibn Abd al-Rahman, from someone who mentioned it from Abu Abdullah (a.s.), who said: "Whoever uses a reed as a toothpick will not have any of their wishes fulfilled for six days."

11. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain ones who narrated who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a) used to use anything he could find to clean between his teeth, except for palm leaves and reeds.'”
