سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ مَنْ قَالَ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ وَ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ‌ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي وَ هُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لِذُنُوبِهِ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Amr ibn ‘Uthman and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father all from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from ibn Muskan from abu Basir Layth al-Muradi from ‘Abd al-Karim ibn ‘Utbah who has said the following: “I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever (sincerely) says ten times before sunrise and before sunset, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone Who has no partner, the Kingdom is His, all praise belongs to Him, He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life, He is living and will never die, in His hands is the good and He has power over all things,’ this will be the remedy and expiation for his sins on that day.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Jamil ibn Darraj from al-Walid ibn Sabih who has said the following: “Once in al-Madinah, during the month of Ramadan, I had fever, and abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), sent a bowl with olive oil and vinegar in it and said, ’Eat and perform Salat (prayer) in a sitting position.”’

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, a number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad, and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father all from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from abu Hamzah who has narrated the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said that Ali (a.s.), once issued a judgment. It was in the case of those who became Muslims and the legacy of pagans, which was not distributed before his becoming a Muslim. It gave men and women their shares according to the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and the Sunnah of His Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from those whom he has mentioned (in his book) from ‘Umar ibn Muhammad from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Whoever soon after performing the morning prayer and before raising his knees says ten times, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone, Who has no partner, the Kingdom is His, all praise belongs to Him, He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life, He is living and will never die, in His hands is all good and He has power over all things, and also at sunset, no servant (of Allah) will meet Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, with a deed better than this deed except one who performs the same deed.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ‘Umar ibn ‘Udhaynah who has said the following: “I once wrote to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), asking about the limit of illness because of which one has permission to stop fasting and not to perform Salat (prayer) in a standing position. He (the Imam) said, ‘In fact, man is well aware of his soul,’ it is up to him to decide; he knows about his soul.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu Najran from ‘Asem ibn Humayd from Muhammad ibn Qays who has narrated the following: “Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said that Ali (a.s.), issued judgment. It was in the case of those who became Muslims and the pagans of the legacy of pagans, which was not distributed before his becoming a Muslim. It gave such men and women their shares according to the book of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and the Sunnah of His Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’” (According to the two above those who become Muslims before the distribution of the legacy, they receive their shares according to the book and Sunnah). Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa ibn ‘Ubayd from Yunus from Sama‘ah, who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about the limits of illness because of which it is obligatory on the patient not to fast as is the case on a journey, ‘. . . one who is on a journey or suffers from an illness. . . .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is up to him to decide. If he finds weakness, he eats and if he finds strength he fasts, regardless of the degree of illness.’”

Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Faddal from Ghalib ibn ‘Uthman from Ruh ibn ‘Abd al-Rahim who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about buying pages of al- Quran and selling them. He (the Imam) said, ‘Only pages (of al-Quran) were placed near the pulpit. The passage between the wall and the pulpit was no bigger than what a sheep could pass through or a man in a sideways manner.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘A man would come and write down from the pages that were there. Thereafter they bought them.’ I then asked, ‘What do you say about it (buying).’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘I like buying more than selling.’ I then asked, ‘What do you say if I pay for writing al-Quran?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful but in their time that was their way of dealing.’”

Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr has narrated from al-Bazantiy from ‘Abd al-Karim from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . divorced women have rights on the pious ones,’ (2:241) abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is benefiting her after her waiting period ends. An affluent man or one who is not affluent, each must benefit according to their abilities. During the waiting period, however, why he should not benefit her when she is in her waiting period and hopes for him as well as he hopes for her that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, as He wills, may make something happen for them?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If a man is affluent he benefits his wife with servants and a not-so-affluent one benefits with wheat [and barley], raisins, clothes and dirham. Al-Hassan, ibn Ali (a.s.), benefited his wife with a slave-girl. He (a.s.), benefited all the women that he divorced.’”

Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from Sama‘ah from Muhammad ibn Ziyad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah all abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), who has said the following: “About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . divorced women must be benefited with fairness; it is a right on the pious ones’, abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘It is after the end of waiting period, and about, ‘an affluent man and one not-so-affluent each according to their abilities’, he (the Imam) said, ‘Why should he not benefit her during her waiting period when she hopes and he hopes that Allah by His will may make something good to happen for them? An affluent man must benefits his woman with servant and one not affluent, benefit with wheat, (dates), raisins, clothes and dirham. Al-Hassan ibn Ali (a.s.), benefited the woman he divorced with a slave-girl.
