The Soil Where a Person Is Buried

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Muskan from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ’From whatever soil one is created in that soil one is buried also.’”

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from those whom he has mentioned from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Ali ibn Yaqtin who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about a man who has given to five people for one al- Hajj; then says that one from among them perform al-Hajj. Then one man among them completes it. He (the Imam) said, ‘All of them have a share in the reward for al-Hajj.’ I then asked, ‘To whom belongs al-Hajj?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It belongs to the one who experiences hot and cold weather.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father all from ibn Mahbub from Jamil ibn Salih from abu ‘ Ubaydah who has said the following: “About the case of a man who has three virgin daughters and gives one of them in marriage to a man without identifying the girl for the husband or to the witnesses. The husband assigns a mahr (dower) for her. At the time for him to meet the girl he is informed that it is the oldest girl. He then says to the father, ‘I married the youngest of your daughters.’ Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘If the husband had seen them and did not identify one of them the words of the father are accepted between him and Allah to give in marriage the girl that he had intended at the time forming marriage terms. If the husband had not seen all of them and had not identified any one of them at the time of forming the terms of marriage, the marriage then is invalid.’”

2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from al-Hajjal from ibn Bukayr from abu Minhal from al-Harith ibn al- Mughirah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘When al-Nutfah (seed, sperm) falls in the womb Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sends an angel who takes from the soil in which he is to be buried and dissolves it into the al-Nutfah. His heart continues yearning for that place until he is buried therein.’”
