1. Muhammad ibn Yahya Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Bakr ibn Salih from ‘Isa ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Umar ibn Ali from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin (a.s.), has said, ‘Water is the master of drinks in this world and in the next world.’” A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah al-Barqiy from Muhammad ibn Ali from ‘Isa ibn ‘Abd Allah through the chain of his narrators has narrated a similar Hadith.

اتَّقُوا الْحُكُومَةَ فَإِنَّ الْحُكُومَةَ إِنَّمَا هِيَ لِلْإِمَامِ الْعَالِمِ بِالْقَضَاءِ الْعَادِلِ فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ لِنَبِيٍّ أَوْ وَصِيِّ نَبِيٍّ.

1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from abu ‘Abd Allah al-Mu’min from ibn Muskan from Sulayman ibn Khalid who has narrated the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Stay away from governing, it is only for the Imam who has the knowledge of adjudication with justice among the Muslims. It is for a Prophet or Executor of the will of a Prophet.’”

[1]لا يخفى أن هذه الأخبار تدلّ بظواهرها على عدم جواز القضاء لغير المعصوم عليه السلام و لا ريب أنهم عليهم السلام كان يبعثون القضاة الى البلاد فلا بدّ من حملها على ان القضاء بالاصالة لهم و لا يجوز لغيرهم تصدى ذلك الا باذنهم و كذا في قوله:« لا يجلسه الا نبى» أي بالاصالة و الحاصل أن الحصر اضافى بالنسبة الى من جلس فيها بغير اذنهم و نصبهم عليهم السلام( آت)ص 406

2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar and Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from ibn Faddal from Tha’labah ibn Maymun from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, upon mentioning the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, ‘O Lord, You know that he (the Messenger of Allah) is more beloved to us than (our) fathers and mothers and cool water.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ya’qub ibn Yazid from Yahya ibn al-Mubarak from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jabalah from abu Jamilah from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has narrated the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said ’ Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali (a.s.), once said to Shurayh, ‘You have sat in a place where no one can sit except a Prophet or an Executor of the will of a Prophet, or a wicked one.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya and more than one person has narrated from al-‘ Abbas ibn Ma‘ruf from Sa‘dan ibn Muslim from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn al-Hajj aj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The first thing that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will ask the servants will be, ‘Did I not quench your thirst with sweet water of al-Furat?”’

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has narrated the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’ Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali (a.s.), appointed Shurayh as a judge with the condition that his judgments will take effect only after they are shown to him (Imam Ali (a.s.)).”

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Ali ibn al-Rayyan ibn al-Salt in a marfu ‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The master of the drink in paradise is water.’”

Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Kufiy has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy from Ali ibn Asbat from ‘Abd al-Samad ibn Bandar from al-Husayn ibn ‘Ulwan who has said the following: “Once, a man asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the taste of water. He (the Imam) said, ‘Ask to understand not to harass. The taste of water is the taste of life.’”
