Prayer

قُلْتُ لَهُ‌ فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَ انْحَرْ قَالَ النَّحْرُ الِاعْتِدَالُ فِي الْقِيَامِ أَنْ يُقِيمَ صُلْبَهُ وَ نَحْرَهُ وَ قَالَ لَا تُكَفِّرْ فَإِنَّمَا يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ الْمَجُوسُ وَ لَا تَلَثَّمْ وَ لَا تَحْتَفِزْ[1] وَ لَا تُقْعِ عَلَى قَدَمَيْكَ وَ لَا تَفْتَرِشْ ذِرَاعَيْكَ.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the words of Allah, ‘Perform Salah (prayer) for the sake of your Lord and offer sacrifice. . . .’(108:2) He (the Imam) said, ‘Offering sacrifice’ is a reference to standing in a level posture by keeping one’s back and neck level.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not place your hand

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنِ التَّشَهُّدِ فَقَالَ لَوْ كَانَ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ وَاجِباً عَلَى النَّاسِ هَلَكُوا إِنَّمَا كَانَ الْقَوْمُ يَقُولُونَ أَيْسَرَ مَا يَعْلَمُونَ إِذَا حَمِدْتَ اللَّهَ أَجْزَأَ عَنْكَ.

‘Had it been as they say that it was obligatory people would have been destroyed. People only said what was easy of what they knew. If you praise Allah it is sufficient.’”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع أَيَّ شَيْ‌ءٍ أَقُولُ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ وَ الْقُنُوتِ قَالَ قُلْ بِأَحْسَنِ مَا عَلِمْتَ فَإِنَّهُ لَوْ كَانَ مُوَقَّتاً لَهَلَكَ النَّاسُ.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), ‘What should I say in Tashahhud (testimonies of belief) and Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Say of the best you know; had it been something definite people would have been destroyed.’”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنْ أَدْنَى مَا يُجْزِئُ مِنَ التَّشَهُّدِ فَقَالَ الشَّهَادَتَانِ.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the minimum of what is sufficient for Tashahhud (testimonies of belief). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is the two testimonies of belief.”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَقْرَأُ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ مَا طَابَ فَلِلَّهِ وَ مَا خَبُثَ فَلِغَيْرِهِ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا كَانَ يَقُولُ عَلِيٌّ ع.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Can I say in Tashahhud (testimonies of belief), ‘Whatever is good is for Allah and whatever is evil is for those other than Allah?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘That is what Ali (a.s.), would say.’”

يَنْبَغِي لِلْإِمَامِ أَنْ يُسْمِعَ مَنْ خَلْفَهُ التَّشَهُّدَ وَ لَا يُسْمِعُونَهُ هُمْ شَيْئاً.

‘It is proper for the Imam to make people behind him hear Tashahhud (testimonies of belief) and they must not make him to hear anything from them.’”

قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ كُلُّ مَا ذَكَرْتَ اللَّهَ بِهِ وَ النَّبِيَّ ص فَهُوَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ وَ إِنْ قُلْتَ- السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَ عَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ فَقَدِ انْصَرَفْتَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to me, ‘Whatever you say of Allah and the Holy prophet is of Salah (prayer). As soon as you say the phrase, ‘I appeal before Allah to send peace on us and on the virtuous servants of Allah’, you have ended Salah (prayer).”’

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا كُنْتَ فِي صَفٍّ فَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيمَةً عَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَ تَسْلِيمَةً عَنْ يَسَارِكَ لِأَنَّ عَنْ يَسَارِكَ مَنْ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْكَ وَ إِذَا كُنْتَ إِمَاماً فَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيمَةً وَ أَنْتَ مُسْتَقْبِلُ الْقِبْلَةِ.

‘When you are in the row (of people performing Salah (prayer)), say the phrase of offering greeting of peace, one to your right side and one to your left side, because from your left someone says the phrase of offering greeting of peace to you. If you are the Imam, then say Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of pea

إِذَا انْصَرَفْتَ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ فَانْصَرِفْ عَنْ يَمِينِكَ‌[1].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you want to move away after completing Salah (prayer) move to your right side.”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَقُومُ فِي الصَّفِّ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ وَ لَيْسَ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ أَحَدٌ كَيْفَ يُسَلِّمُ قَالَ يُسَلِّمُ وَاحِدَةً عَنْ يَمِينِهِ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who performs Salah (prayer) behind an Imam and there is no one on his left side; how he says the phrase of offering greeting of peace?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He says the phrase of offering greeting of peace only once to his right side.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا قُمْتَ مِنَ الرَّكْعَةِ فَاعْتَمِدْ عَلَى كَفَّيْكَ وَ قُلْ- بِحَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوتِهِ أَقُومُ وَ أَقْعُدُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيّاً ع كَانَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ.

10. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from abu Bakr al-Hadramiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When you want to stand up after a Rak‘at use your hands for support and say, ‘

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا جَلَسْتَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأَوَّلَتَيْنِ فَتَشَهَّدْتَ ثُمَّ قُمْتَ فَقُلْ- بِحَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوتِهِ أَقُومُ وَ أَقْعُدُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you sit up straight after the first two Rak‘at, say Tashahhud (testimonies of belief), then when standing up say, “By the means of Allah and His power I stand up and sit down.’””

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فِي الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ فَقَالَ اقْنُتْ فِيهِنَّ جَمِيعاً قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فَقَالَ لِي أَمَّا مَا جَهَرْتَ فَلَا تَشُكَ‌[2].

“I once asked abu Ja’far (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in the five daily Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘Say Qunut in all of them.’ I afterwards asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not have any doubt about (the need for Qunut) in whatever y

صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع أَيَّاماً فَكَانَ يَقْنُتُ فِي كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ يُجْهَرُ فِيهَا وَ لَا يُجْهَرُ فِيهَا.

“Whenever I performed Salah (prayer) led by abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), I found him (the Imam) say Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in every Salah (prayer); those which are said aloud as well as those said silently.”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فَقَالَ فِيمَا يُجْهَرُ فِيهِ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُ أَبَاكَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ فِي الْخَمْسِ كُلِّهَا فَقَالَ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ أَبِي إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ أَبِي أَتَوْهُ فَسَأَلُوهُ فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ ثُمَّ أَتَوْنِي شُكَّاكاً فَأَفْتَيْتُهُمْ بِالتَّقِيَّةِ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is in Salah (prayer) in which recitation is loudly?’ I (the narrator) then said to him (the Imam), ‘I asked your father about it and he said that it is in all of the five daily Salah (prayer).’ He

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ اقْنُتْ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَرِيضَةٍ أَوْ نَافِلَةٍ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Say Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees) in every two Rak‘at in obligatory Salah (prayer) or optional ones’”

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فَقَالَ فِي كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ فَرِيضَةٍ وَ نَافِلَةٍ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is in every Salah (prayer); obligatory or optional.’”

مَنْ تَرَكَ الْقُنُوتَ رَغْبَةً عَنْهُ فَلَا صَلَاةَ لَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Whoever omits Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in dislike his Salah (prayer) is not anything.’”

الْقُنُوتُ فِي كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘There is Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in every Salah (prayer) in the second Rak‘at before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees).”’

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ وَ مَا يُقَالُ فِيهِ فَقَالَ مَا قَضَى اللَّهُ عَلَى لِسَانِكَ وَ لَا أَعْلَمُ لَهُ شَيْئاً مُوَقَّتاً.

“I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) and what is said in it. He (the Imam) said, ‘Say whatever Allah makes to come out from your tongue. I do not know of anything definite for it.’”

الْقُنُوتُ فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ الدُّعَاءُ وَ فِي الْوَتْرِ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Al-Qunut in obligatory Salah (prayer) is pleading (before Allah) and in Witr it is to ask forgiveness (from Allah).’” (Ahadith 1-9 are best explained in the form of fatwa.)

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ع رَجُلٌ نَسِيَ الْقُنُوتَ فَذَكَرَهُ وَ هُوَ فِي بَعْضِ الطَّرِيقِ فَقَالَ يَسْتَقْبِلُ الْقِبْلَةَ ثُمَّ لْيَقُلْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَكْرَهُ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَرْغَبَ عَنْ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص أَوْ يَدَعَهَا.

“I asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about a man who has forgotten al-Qunut then remembers somewhere on the way. The Imam said, ‘He should turn toward Qiblah and say it.’ He then said, ‘I do not like a man’s ignoring traditions of the Messenger of Allah or abandoning them altogether.’”

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَنْ أَدْنَى الْقُنُوتِ فَقَالَ خَمْسُ تَسْبِيحَاتٍ.

“I asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the minimum form of al-Qunut. He said, ‘It is five times saying, “Allah is free of all defects.’””

يُجْزِئُكَ فِي الْقُنُوتِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَ ارْحَمْنَا وَ عَافِنَا وَ اعْفُ عَنَّا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ إِنَّكَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ*.

12. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Sa‘d ibn abu Khalaf who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is sufficient for al-Qunut to say, “O Lord, forgive us, grant us mercy, good health and pardon us in this world and in the next life; You have power over all th

مَا أَعْرِفُ قُنُوتاً إِلَّا قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘I do not know of any Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) except before Ruku‘ (bowing down on one’s knees).”’

سَأَلْتُ عَبْداً صَالِحاً ع عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فِي الْوَتْرِ وَ الْفَجْرِ وَ مَا يُجْهَرُ فِيهِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ فَقَالَ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ حِينَ تَفْرُغُ مِنْ قِرَاءَتِكَ.

‘It is before Ruku‘ when you complete your recitation.’”

قَالَ: الْقُنُوتُ فِي كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ وَ التَّطَوُّعِ.

15. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad Ya‘qub ibn Yazid from Ziyad al-Qandiy from Durust from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “He (the Imam) (a.s.), has said, ‘There is Qunut (supplication after recitation in second Rak‘at) in every Salah (prayer); obligatory or optional.’” (Ahadith 13-15

لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْإِمَامِ أَنْ يَنْتَقِلَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ‌[1] حَتَّى يُتِمَّ مَنْ خَلْفَهُ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَؤُمُّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ هَلْ يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُعَقِّبَ بِأَصْحَابِهِ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ فَقَالَ يُسَبِّحُ وَ يَذْهَبُ مَنْ شَاءَ لِحَاجَتِهِ وَ لَا يُعَقِّبُ رَجُلٌ لِتَعْقِيبِ الْإِمَامِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘It is not proper for an Imam to move from his place after saying the phrase of offering greeting of peace before people behind him complete their Salah (prayer). He (the narrator) has said that I asked him (the Imam) about a man who leads others in Salah (prayer) if it is necessary fo

أَيُّمَا رَجُلٍ أَمَّ قَوْماً فَعَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَقْعُدَ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ وَ لَا يَخْرُجَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَوْضِعِ حَتَّى يُتِمَّ الَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ الَّذِينَ سُبِقُوا صَلَاتَهُمْ ذَلِكَ عَلَى كُلِّ إِمَامٍ وَاجِبٌ إِذَا عَلِمَ أَنَّ فِيهِمْ مَسْبُوقاً وَ إِنْ عَلِمَ أَنْ لَيْسَ فِيهِمْ مَسْبُوقٌ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَلْيَذْهَبْ حَيْثُ شَاءَ.

“Whoever leads a people in Salah (prayer) must sit down after the phrase of offering greeting of peace and must not leave that place until those behind him complete (their Salah (prayer)) which is completed after (the Salah (prayer) of the Imam). It is obligatory for every Imam if they know that there are people who ha

مَنْ صَلَّى صَلَاةً فَرِيضَةً وَ عَقَّبَ إِلَى أُخْرَى فَهُوَ ضَيْفُ اللَّهِ وَ حَقٌّ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكْرِمَ ضَيْفَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If after completing an obligatory Salah (prayer), one remains in his place for ta‘qib (praying and speaking to Allah) up to the time of the next Salah (prayer), he is a guest of Allah and it is a right in his favor before Allah to honor His guest.’”

ثُمَّ قَالَ ادْعُهْ‌[2] وَ لَا تَقُلْ قَدْ فُرِغَ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ فَإِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَقُولُ‌ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ داخِرِينَ‌ وَ قَالَ‌ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ‌[3] وَ قَالَ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ اللَّهَ فَمَجِّدْهُ وَ احْمَدْهُ وَ سَبِّحْهُ وَ هَلِّلْهُ وَ أَثْنِ عَلَيْهِ وَ صَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ص ثُمَّ سَلْ ت

“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘The excellence of prayer, after an obligatory Salah (prayer), over prayers after non-obligatory Salah (prayer), is like the excellence of obligatory Salah (prayer) over non-obligatory Salah (prayer).’ The Imam then said, ‘Pray to Allah and do not say that matters are settled. Praye

الدُّعَاءُ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ تَنَفُّلًا.

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘Prayer after an obligatory Salah (prayer) is better than after non-obligatory Salah (prayer).”’

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ مَنْ سَبَّحَ تَسْبِيحَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ ع قَبْلَ أَنْ يَثْنِيَ رِجْلَيْهِ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْفَرِيضَةِ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وَ لْيَبْدَأْ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One who reads Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al- Salam, after an obligatory Salah (prayer) and before moving his legs away from his position Allah forgives him and he should begin with al-Takbir (Allahu Akbar).”’

مَنْ سَبَّحَ اللَّهَ فِي دُبُرِ الْفَرِيضَةِ تَسْبِيحَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ ع الْمِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ وَ أَتْبَعَهَا بِلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one speaks of the glory of Allah after completing an obligatory Salah (prayer) in the form of Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam, one hundred times and following this says, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah,” Allah forgives him.’”

دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَسَأَلَهُ أَبِي عَنْ تَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ ص فَقَالَ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ حَتَّى أَحْصَاهَا أَرْبَعاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ مَرَّةً ثُمَّ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَتَّى بَلَغَ سَبْعاً وَ سِتِّينَ ثُمَّ قَالَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ حَتَّى بَلَغَ مِائَةً يُحْصِيهَا بِيَدِهِ جُمْلَةً وَاحِدَةً.

“Once my father and I went to see abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and my father asked him about Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam. The Imam said, ‘Allahu Akbar’ thirty four times. Then he said, ‘Al-Hamdu Li Allah’ up to sixty-seven. He then said, ‘Subhana Allah’ up to one hundred. He was counting all of them with hi

فِي تَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ ص يُبْدَأُ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ أَرْبَعاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ ثُمَّ التَّحْمِيدِ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ ثُمَّ التَّسْبِيحِ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that one should begin Tasbih of Fatimah, ‘Alayha al- Salam, with Takbir (Allah is great) thirty-four times, Tahmid (all praise belongs to Allah) thirty-three times and Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) thirty-three times.”

وَ هُوَ يَلْعَنُ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ مَكْتُوبَةٍ أَرْبَعَةً مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَ أَرْبَعاً مِنَ النِّسَاءِ فُلَانٌ وَ فُلَانٌ وَ فُلَانٌ وَ مُعَاوِيَةُ وَ يُسَمِّيهِمْ وَ فُلَانَةُ وَ فُلَانَةُ وَ هِنْدٌ وَ أُمُّ الْحَكَمِ أُخْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ.

“We heard Aba ‘Abdillah (a.s.) cursing, after every obligatory prayer, four men and four women: so-and-so, so-and-so, so-and-so, and Muawiyah. He would name them. And so-and-so, so-and-so, Hind, and Umm al-Hakam, the sister of Muawiyah.”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا شَكَكْتَ فِي تَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ ع فَأَعِدْ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If you face uncertainty about Tasbih of Fatimah al- Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam, say it again.’”

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُسَبِّحُ تَسْبِيحَ فَاطِمَةَ ص فَيَصِلُهُ وَ لَا يَقْطَعُهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), would say Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam, continuously without interruption.”

يَا أَبَا هَارُونَ إِنَّا نَأْمُرُ صِبْيَانَنَا بِتَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ ع كَمَا نَأْمُرُهُمْ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَالْزَمْهُ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَلْزَمْهُ عَبْدٌ فَشَقِيَ.

“Once abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), said, ‘O abu Harun, we command our children to read Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam, just as we command them to say Salah (prayer). You must hold to it; whoever holds to it does not become unfortunate.”’

مَا عُبِدَ اللَّهُ بِشَيْ‌ءٍ مِنَ التَّحْمِيدِ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ تَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ ع وَ لَوْ كَانَ شَيْ‌ءٌ أَفْضَلَ مِنْهُ لَنَحَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فَاطِمَةَ ع.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘In worshipping Allah in the form of praises no other thing is better than Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam. If anything other than this could make a better gift the Messenger of Allah would have instead given to Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam.’”

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ تَسْبِيحُ فَاطِمَةَ ع فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ صَلَاةِ أَلْفِ رَكْعَةٍ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ.

‘Tasbih of Fatimah al-Zahra’, ‘Alayha al-Salam, every day after every Salah (prayer) is more beloved to me than one thousand Rak‘at prayer every day.’”

أَقَلُّ مَا يُجْزِئُكَ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ أَنْ تَقُولَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ أَحَاطَ بِهِ عِلْمُكَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ أَحَاطَ بِهِ عِلْمُكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عَافِيَتَكَ فِي أُمُورِي كُلِّهَا وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ خِزْيِ الدُّنْيَا وَ عَذَابِ الْآخِرَةِ.

‘The least that you should say after an obligatory Salah (prayer) is to say, ‘O Lord, I ask from You of all good which Your knowledge has encompassed, and seek refuge with You against every evil thing that Your knowledge has encompassed. O Lord, I ask from You good health in all of my affairs and I seek refuge with You

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يُسْتَجَابُ الدُّعَاءُ فِي أَرْبَعَةِ مَوَاطِنَ فِي الْوَتْرِ وَ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ وَ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ وَ بَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Prayers are answered in four conditions and instances of time: One is the prayer during one’s doing Salah (prayer) of Witr, after Salah (prayer) of Fajr (Morning Prayer), after Salah (prayer) at noon time and upon completion of Salah (prayer) of Maghrib (after sunset).”’

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ لَا تَدَعْ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ- أُعِيذُ نَفْسِي وَ مَا رَزَقَنِي رَبِّي بِاللَّهِ الْوَاحِدِ الصَّمَدِ حَتَّى تَخْتِمَهَا وَ أُعِيذُ نَفْسِي وَ مَا رَزَقَنِي رَبِّي‌ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ‌ حَتَّى تَخْتِمَهَا وَ أُعِيذُ نَفْسِي وَ مَا رَزَقَنِي رَبِّي‌ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ‌ حَتَّى تَخْتِمَهَا.

“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘Do not go away before saying the following after every Salah (prayer): “I seek protection, for myself and whatever my Lord has given me, with Allah, the only One self-sufficient, who does not have any children. He Himself is not anyone’s child. There is no one like Him (Chapter 112

قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع‌ لَا تَنْسَوُا الْمُوجِبَتَيْنِ أَوْ قَالَ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُوجِبَتَيْنِ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِ‌ صَلَاةٍ قُلْتُ وَ مَا الْمُوجِبَتَانِ‌[1] قَالَ تَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْجَنَّةَ وَ تَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ.

‘Do not forget’ - or that he said ‘you must not forget appealing before Allah after every obligatory Salah (prayer) about the two essential matters.’ I then asked, ‘What are the two essential matters?’ The Imam replied, ‘Appealing before Allah for paradise and seeking refuge with Allah against the fire.”’

كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ الرَّجُلُ ص فِي سَجْدَةِ الشُّكْرِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ- شُكْراً شُكْراً وَ إِنْ شِئْتَ عَفْواً عَفْواً.

“The man (a.s.), wrote to me the following: ’During sajdah when expressing thanks to Allah say, “Shukran” one hundred times - or if you wanted - say “’Afwan ‘Afwan.’””

مَنْ سَبَقَتْ أَصَابِعُهُ لِسَانَهُ حُسِبَ لَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Whoever’ s fingers may move faster than his tongue it is counted in his favor (according to the movement of the former).”’

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ ثَلَاثٌ أُعْطِينَ سَمْعَ الْخَلَائِقِ- الْجَنَّةُ وَ النَّارُ وَ الْحُورُ الْعِينُ فَإِذَا صَلَّى الْعَبْدُ وَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ أَعْتِقْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ وَ أَدْخِلْنِي الْجَنَّةَ وَ زَوِّجْنِي مِنَ الْحُورِ الْعِينِ قَالَتِ النَّارُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ عَبْدَكَ قَدْ سَأَلَكَ أَنْ تُعْتِقَهُ مِنِّي فَأَعْتِقْهُ وَ قَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ عَبْدَكَ قَدْ سَأَلَكَ إِيَّايَ

“I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘Three things are given the power to hear creatures. They are paradise, the fire and al-Hur al-‘Ayn. When a servant of Allah completes his Salah (prayer) then pleads and says, “O Lord, set me free from the fire, admit me in paradise and join me as a pair with al-Hur al-‘Ayn.” The fi

دُعَاءً يُدْعَى بِهِ فِي دُبُرِ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ تُصَلِّيهَا فَإِنْ كَانَ بِكَ دَاءٌ مِنْ سَقَمٍ وَ وَجَعٍ فَإِذَا قَضَيْتَ صَلَاتَكَ فَامْسَحْ بِيَدِكَ عَلَى مَوْضِعِ سُجُودِكَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَ ادْعُ بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ وَ أَمِرَّ بِيَدِكَ عَلَى مَوْضِعِ وَجَعِكَ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ تَقُولُ يَا مَنْ كَبَسَ الْأَرْضَ عَلَى الْمَاءِ وَ سَدَّ الْهَوَاءَ بِالسَّمَاءِ وَ اخْتَارَ لِنَفْسِهِ أَحْسَنَ الْأَسْمَاءِ صَلِّ عَلَى‌ مُ
