Gossip Mongering

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ أَ لَا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِشِرَارِكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ- قَالَ الْمَشَّاءُونَ بِالنَّمِيمَةِ الْمُفَرِّقُونَ بَيْنَ الْأَحِبَّةِ الْبَاغُونَ لِلْبُرَآءِ الْمَعَايِبَ‌[2].

‘The Messenger of Allah has asked, ‘Should I tell you who the evil ones among you are?’ They said, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘They are those who spread gossip that causes separation among the loved ones and those who seek to label the innocent with faults.’”

مُحَرَّمَةٌ الْجَنَّةُ عَلَى الْقَتَّاتِينَ الْمَشَّاءِينَ بِالنَّمِيمَةِ[3].

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.) has said, ‘Entering paradise is prohibited to spies and gossip mongers.’”

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ شِرَارُكُمُ الْمَشَّاءُونَ بِالنَّمِيمَةِ- الْمُفَرِّقُونَ بَيْنَ الْأَحِبَّةِ الْمُبْتَغُونَ لِلْبُرَآءِ الْمَعَايِبَ.

“Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) has said, ‘The evil ones among you are those who spread gossip that causes separation among the loved ones, and seek to label the innocent with defects.’”
