سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ رَحِمَ اللَّهُ عَبْداً حَبَّبَنَا إِلَى النَّاسِ وَ لَمْ يُبَغِّضْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ أَمَا وَ اللَّهِ لَوْ يَرْوُونَ[2] مَحَاسِنَ كَلَامِنَا لَكَانُوا بِهِ أَعَزَّ وَ مَا اسْتَطَاعَ أَحَدٌ أَنْ يَتَعَلَّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بِشَيْءٍ وَ لَكِنْ أَحَدُهُمْ يَسْمَعُ الْكَلِمَةَ فَيَحُطُّ إِلَيْهَا عَشْراً[3].
“May Allah have mercy on a servant who endears us to the people and does not make them detest us. By Allah, if they were to narrate the beauty of our words, they would become honored through it, and no one would be able to criticize them for anything. But one of them hears a single word and distorts it into ten.”
