قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع كَيْفَ تَقْرَأُ وَ عَلَى الثَّلاثَةِ الَّذِينَ خُلِّفُوا[1] قَالَ لَوْ كَانَ خُلِّفُوا لَكَانُوا فِي حَالِ طَاعَةٍ وَ لَكِنَّهُمْ خَالَفُوا عُثْمَانُ وَ صَاحِبَاهُ أَمَا وَ اللَّهِ مَا سَمِعُوا صَوْتَ حَافِرٍ وَ لَا قَعْقَعَةَ[2] حَجَرٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا أُتِينَا فَسَلَّطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْخَوْفَ حَتَّى أَصْبَحُوا.
‘I said to Abu Abdullah (a.s), ‘How do you read “[9:118] And to the three who were left behind”. He said; ‘Had they been left behind (Khulifu), they would be in a state of obedience.
