قَالَ أَبُو شَاكِرٍ الدَّيَصَانِيُّ- إِنَّ فِي الْقُرْآنِ آيَةً هِيَ قَوْلُنَا قُلْتُ مَا هِيَ فَقَالَ- وَ هُوَ الَّذِي فِي السَّماءِ إِلهٌ وَ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلهٌ‌ فَلَمْ أَدْرِ بِمَا أُجِيبُهُ فَحَجَجْتُ فَخَبَّرْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَقَالَ‌ هَذَا كَلَامُ زِنْدِيقٍ خَبِيثٍ إِذَا رَجَعْتَ إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْ لَهُ مَا اسْمُكَ بِالْكُوفَةِ فَإِنَّهُ يَقُولُ فُلَانٌ فَقُلْ لَهُ مَا اسْمُكَ بِالْبَصْرَةِ فَإِنَّهُ يَقُ

The Imam (a.s.), said, ‘It (means of piety) means before giving the knowledge of what He is pleased with and what He is displeased with.’ The Imam (a.s.), said the words of Allah ‘. . . and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety,’ (91:8) convey that He has explained what people must do and what they must not do.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘A person in good health who is thankful for it receives the same amount of reward as a person who in an ailing health exercises patience. مَا أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى عَبْدٍ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ فَعَرَفَهَا بِقَلْبِهِ وَ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ ظَاهِراً بِلِسَانِهِ فَتَمَّ كَلَامُهُ حَتَّى يُؤْمَرَ لَهُ بِالْمَزِيدِ.

‘If upon Allah’s granting a favor to a servant he acknowledges it in his heart, and expresses thanks to Him in public, as soon as his words are completed, an order is issued to give the servant more.’”
