بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسَةِ أَشْيَاءَ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَ الزَّكَاةِ وَ الْحَجِّ وَ الصَّوْمِ وَ الْوَلَايَةِ[1]
Hadith.1770 - Abu Ja’far (Imam Muhammad ibn Ali Al-Baqir (as)) said: "Islam is built upon five things: prayer, almsgiving, pilgrimage, fasting, and wilayah (divinely appointed leadership)."
الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ[2]
Hadith.1771 - The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "Fasting is a shield from the Fire."
الصَّائِمُ فِي عِبَادَةٍ وَ إِنْ كَانَ نَائِماً عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ مَا لَمْ يَغْتَبْ مُسْلِماً[1]
Hadith.1772 - The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "The fasting person is in a state of worship, even if he is sleeping on his bed, as long as he does not backbite a Muslim."
وَ قَالَ ص قَالَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى الصَّوْمُ لِي وَ أَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ[2] وَ لِلصَّائِمِ فَرْحَتَانِ حِينَ يُفْطِرُ وَ حِينَ يَلْقَى رَبَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ[3] وَ الَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَخُلُوفُ فَمِ الصَّائِمِ[4] عِنْدَ اللَّهِ أَطْيَبُ مِنْ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ.
Hadith.1773 - The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "Allah (swt), Blessed and Exalted, said: 'Fasting is for Me, and I will reward it.' لِأَصْحَابِهِ أَ لَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ فَعَلْتُمُوهُ تَبَاعَدَ الشَّيْطَانُ عَنْكُمْ كَمَا تَبَاعَدَ الْمَشْرِقُ مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ الصَّوْمُ يُسَوِّدُ وَجْهَهُ وَ الصَّدَقَةُ تَكْسِرُ ظَهْرَهُ وَ الْحُبُّ فِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ الْمُؤَازَرَةُ عَلَى الْعَمَلِ الصَّالِحِ يَقْطَعُ دَابِرَهُ وَ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ يَقْطَعُ وَتِينَهُ[5] وَ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ زَكَاةٌ
Hadith.1774 - The Messenger of Allah (swt) (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to his companions: "Shall I not inform you of something that, if you do it, will cause Satan to be distanced from you as far as the east is from the west?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah (swt)." The Prophet (sw) said
لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أَ لَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَصْلِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَ فَرْعِهِ وَ ذِرْوَتِهِ وَ سَنَامِهِ قَالَ بَلَى قَالَ أَصْلُهُ الصَّلَاةُ وَ فَرْعُهُ الزَّكَاةُ وَ ذِرْوَتُهُ وَ سَنَامُهُ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَ لَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَبْوَابِ الْخَيْرِ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ[6]
Hadith.1775 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said to Ali ibn Abdul Aziz: "Shall I not inform you about the foundation of Islam, its branch, its pinnacle, and its peak?" He said: "Yes." The Imam (as) said: "Its foundation is prayer, its branch is almsgiving, and its pinnacle and peak are striving in the way of Al
وَ قَالَ ع فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- وَ اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَ الصَّلاةِ قَالَ يَعْنِي بِالصَّبْرِ الصَّوْمَ.
Hadith.1776 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said regarding the saying of Allah (swt), the Almighty: "And seek help through patience and prayer" (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:45): (Imam (as) said) "By patience, it means fasting."
وَ قَالَ ع إِذَا نَزَلَتْ بِالرَّجُلِ النَّازِلَةُ أَوِ الشِّدَّةُ[1] فَلْيَصُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَقُولُ- وَ اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَ الصَّلاةِ
Hadith.1777 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "If a person faces a calamity or hardship, let him fast, for Allah (swt), the Almighty, says: "And seek help through patience and prayer" (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:45)
وَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى وَكَّلَ مَلَائِكَةً بِالدُّعَاءِ لِلصَّائِمِينَ وَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي جَبْرَئِيلُ ع عَنْ رَبِّهِ تَعَالَى ذِكْرُهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَا أَمَرْتُ مَلَائِكَتِي بِالدُّعَاءِ لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِي إِلَّا اسْتَجَبْتُ لَهُمْ فِيهِ.
Hadith.1778 - The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "Indeed, Allah (swt), Blessed and Exalted, has appointed angels to supplicate for those who fast. And Archangel Jibril (as) informed me from his Lord (azj), exalted is His mention, that He said: 'Whenever I command My angels to supplicate
أَوْحَى اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى إِلَى مُوسَى ع مَا يَمْنَعُكَ مِنْ مُنَاجَاتِي فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ أُجِلُّكَ عَنِ الْمُنَاجَاةِ لِخُلُوفِ فَمِ الصَّائِمِ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ يَا مُوسَى لَخُلُوفُ فَمِ الصَّائِمِ أَطْيَبُ عِنْدِي مِنْ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ
Hadith.1779 - "Allah (swt), Blessed and Exalted, revealed to Musa (as): 'What prevents you from conversing with Me?' He replied: 'O Lord (azj), I revere You too much to converse with You because of the odor of the fasting person's mouth.' Allah (swt), the Almighty, revealed to him: 'O Musa, the odor of the fasting pers
لِلصَّائِمِ فَرْحَتَانِ فَرْحَةٌ عِنْدَ إِفْطَارِهِ وَ فَرْحَةٌ عِنْدَ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ
Hadith.1780 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "The fasting person has two joys: a joy when he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord (azj), the Almighty."
وَ قَالَ ع مَنْ صَامَ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يَوْماً فِي شِدَّةِ الْحَرِّ فَأَصَابَهُ ظَمَأٌ وَكَّلَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ يَمْسَحُونَ وَجْهَهُ وَ يُبَشِّرُونَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا أَفْطَرَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مَا أَطْيَبَ رِيحَكَ وَ رَوْحَكَ يَا مَلَائِكَتِي اشْهَدُوا أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُ.
Hadith.1781 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "Whoever fasts for the sake of Allah (swt), the Almighty, on a hot day and experiences thirst, Allah (swt) appoints a thousand angels to wipe his face and give him glad tidings until he breaks his fast. When he breaks his fast, Allah (swt), the Almighty, says: '
قِيلُوا[3] فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ يُطْعِمُ الصَّائِمَ وَ يَسْقِيهِ فِي مَنَامِهِ
Hadith.1782 - Abu al-Hasan al-Awwal (as) said: "Take a nap, for Allah (swt), the Almighty, feeds and gives drink to the fasting person while they sleep."
نَوْمُ الصَّائِمِ عِبَادَةٌ وَ صَمْتُهُ تَسْبِيحٌ وَ عَمَلُهُ مُتَقَبَّلٌ وَ دُعَاؤُهُ مُسْتَجَابٌ
Hadith.1783 - Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) said: "The sleep of the fasting person is worship, his silence is glorification, his deeds are accepted, and his supplication is answered."
