7. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain persons of his people in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Use of three things forms fat in one’s body, another three things cause weight loss. Two things benefit harmlessly and two things do all kinds of harm without any benefit. The three that can cause fatness are use of linen, perfume and lime. The ones that can cause weight loss are eating dried meat, cheese and spadix (al-Tal’). In another Hadith it is meat of the back of the camel and residue of oil.’ The two that benefit without harm are warm water and pomegranate, and the two that harm without any benefit are dried meat and cheese.’ I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, ‘Are the ones that cause weight loss harmful?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Have you not heard that losing weight is harmful?”’

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Rayyan in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), ’Why did the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, like shoulder meat more than meat from other parts of a sheep? He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because Adam offered a sacrifice for Prophets of his offspring and he for everyone named a part. The shoulder was assigned to the Messenger of Allah. For this reason he liked it, desired and preferred over the other parts.’”

2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked shoulder meat greatly.’”

3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘The Jewish woman poisoned the Holy Prophet with shoulder meat and the Holy Prophet, liked it greatly but he disliked meat from the hip area because it is close to the urinating part.’”
