Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about a man who experiences sexual relation during a journey and cannot find anything other than snow or ice. He (the Imam) said, ’This is like an emergency case and he must take Tayammum. I do not consider it proper for him to return to such land which ruins his religion.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from a man who has said the following: “This is about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, ‘If you pay charity in public, it still is fine. . (2:270) Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, It is about obligatory zakat.’ I (the narrator) then mentioned Allah’s words that say, ‘If they hide it and give to the poor. . . .’ (2:270) The Imam said, ‘This is about optional charity. They liked to pay obligatory zakat publicly and the optional zakat out of public sight.’”

43. From him, from his father, from Muhammad Bin Usaym Al-Nakhaas, from Muawiya Bin Ammaar who said: ‘I heard Abu Abdullah (asws) saying that: ‘The man from among you lives in the neighbourhood. So Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic will Argue by him against his neighbours on the Day of Judgement. So He (azwj) will Say: “Was not so and so among you? Did you not hear his speech? Did you not hear his wailing during the night? So he will be the Argument of Allah (azwj) against them’.

Everyone acts according to his intention.’”

2. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from those who narrated to him from Mu‘alla’ ibn ‘Ubayd, from Ali ibn abu Hamzah, from his father who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about an amount of zakat which has become obligatory for me to pay in a place where I cannot pay. He said, ‘Keep the amount on one side. If you do business with it, you are responsible for it and for its profit. If you die after keeping the amount on the side and without doing any business with it, you are not liable for anything. If you do business with it along with the rest of your other properties, then the profit is proportionately divided and there is no deduction (for expenses) from that amount (of zakat).”’

3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Hisham ibn Salim from abu Basir from Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) who has said the following: “The poor believing servant (of Allah) says, ‘O Lord bestow upon me such and such so that I can do so and so good deeds. If Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, finds that his intention is true He will write down for him a reward (just for his intention) equal to the degree of good deeds had his intention materialized; Allah is vastly generous.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-Husayn from Ja‘far ibn Bashir from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of one who experiences sexual relation during a cold night and is afraid for his life due to Ghusl (bath) because of cold. He (the Imam) said, ‘One must take Tayammum to perform Salah (prayer) and when safe from cold, take Ghusl (bath) and perform such Salah (prayer) again.’”

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Shu’ayb from al-Husayn ibn al-Hassan from ‘Asem from Yunus from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: ”Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), was seen giving sugar for charity. Someone asked, ‘Do you give sugar for charity?’ He (Imam) replied, ‘Yes, there is not anything more beloved to me than sugar, so I love to give for charity what is most beloved to me.’”

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Ali ibn Asbat from Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn al-Husayn from Amr from Hassan ibn Aban from abu Basir who has said the following: “I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about worship, ‘What kind of worshipping sets the worshipper free from obligations.’ The Imam said, ‘It is obedience with good intention and in good faith.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Mu’adh ibn Kathir who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), say, Tt is permissible for our followers to spend as Benevolent Assistance from whatever they possess. When the one with Divine Authority will rise, it will then become unlawful for all possessors of treasure not to bring it to him so he can use it to overcome his enemies. This is stated in the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Glorious, ‘Those who treasure gold and silver and do not spend them for the cause of Allah, inform them of the painful torment that awaits them.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنَّمَا خُلِّدَ أَهْلُ النَّارِ فِي النَّارِ لِأَنَّ نِيَّاتِهِمْ كَانَتْ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَنْ لَوْ خُلِّدُوا فِيهَا أَنْ يَعْصُوا اللَّهَ أَبَداً وَ إِنَّمَا خُلِّدَ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ لِأَنَّ نِيَّاتِهِمْ كَانَتْ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَنْ لَوْ بَقُوا فِيهَا أَنْ يُطِيعُوا اللَّهَ أَبَداً فَبِالنِّيَّاتِ خُلِّدَ هَؤُلَاءِ وَ هَؤُلَاءِ ثُمَّ تَلَا قَوْلَهُ تَعَالَى- قُلْ كُلٌّ يَعْمَلُ عَلى‌ شاكِلَتِهِ‌ قَالَ عَلَى نِيَّتِهِ. بَابٌ‌

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from al-Minqari from Ahmad ibn Yunus from abu Hashim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘People of hell will remain in hell for ever because of their intention in this world to disobey Allah even if they lived here forever. People of paradise will live therein forever because of their intention in this world to worship Allah even if they lived here forever. Because of intentions these and those will remain therein forever. The Imam then recited the words of Allah, “Say, everyone does as he intends (shakilah). . . . ,” (17:84) the Imam said, ‘It (Shakilah) means intention.’”

[2]الإسراء: 84، و كأنّ الاستشهاد بالآية مبنى على أن المدار في الاعمال على النية التابعة للحالة التي اتصفت النفس بها من العقائد و الأخلاق الحسنة و السيئة فإذا كانت النفس على العقائد الثابتة و الأخلاق الحسنة الراسخة التي لا يتخلف عنها الاعمال الصالحة الكاملة لو بقى في الدنيا أبدا فبتلك الشاكلة و الحالة استحق الخلود في الجنة و إن كانت النفس على خلاف ذلك استحق الخلود في النار.ص 85
