عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَانِ بْنِ سَدِيرٍ قَالَ:

سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ أَنَا حَاضِرٌ عِنْدَهُ عَنْ جَدْيٍ يَرْضِعُ مِنْ خِنْزِيرَةٍ حَتَّى كَبِرَ وَ شَبَّ وَ اشْتَدَّ عَظْمُهُ ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَجُلًا اسْتَفْحَلَهُ فِي غَنَمِهِ فَأُخْرِجَ لَهُ نَسْلٌ فَقَالَ أَمَّا مَا عَرَفْتَ مِنْ نَسْلِهِ بِعَيْنِهِ فَلَا تَقْرَبَنَّهُ وَ أَمَّا مَا لَمْ تَعْرِفْهُ فَكُلْهُ فَهُوَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْجُبُنِّ وَ لَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْهُ‌.

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hanan ibn Sadir who has said the following: “Once abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked, when I was with him (the Imam) about the young goat fed with milk from pigs until it grew up and became of strong bones; then a man used it for impregnating the flock of his sheep and young were produced. He (the Imam) said, ‘If you can find out its offspring exactly, then do not get close to it; but you can use for food those that you cannot recognize because it is like cheese; and do not ask about it.’”

كُلُّ مَا كِيلَ بِالصَّاعِ فَبَلَغَ الْأَوْسَاقَ فَعَلَيْهِ الزَّكَاةُ وَ قَالَ جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الصَّدَقَةَ فِي كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ أَنْبَتَتِ الْأَرْضُ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ فِي الْخُضَرِ وَ الْبُقُولِ وَ كُلَّ شَيْ‌ءٍ يَفْسُدُ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ.

2. Hariz has narrated from Zurarah who has narrated a similar Hadith from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said that whatever is measured with al-Sa‘ and it amounts to al-Awsaq (a certain unit of measurement) then it becomes subject to Zakat.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah made charity (Zakat) obligatory on everything that earth grows except vegetable, legumes and things that perish on the same day.’” H 5738, Ch. 5, h 3

2. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ahmad al-Nuhaykiy from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Bishr ibn Muslimah who has said the following: “About the case of a young goat that is fed with the milk of a pig and it is used to impregnate the flock of sheep, abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ (a.s.), has said, ‘It is like cheese. If you recognize its offspring exactly, then do not eat; but you can eat if you cannot recognize it.’”

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from abu Hamzah in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “He (the Imam) (a.s.), do not use for food the flesh of a lamb which is fed with the milk of a pig. 5 ”

كَتَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ ع جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ مِنْ كُلِّ سُوءٍ امْرَأَةٌ أَرْضَعَتْ عَنَاقاً حَتَّى فُطِمَتْ وَ كَبِرَتْ وَ ضَرَبَهَا الْفَحْلُ ثُمَّ وَضَعَتْ أَ يَجُوزُ أَنْ يُؤْكَلَ لَحْمُهَا وَ لَبَنُهَا فَكَتَبَ ع فِعْلٌ مَكْرُوهٌ وَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ.

4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from who has said the following: “I once wrote to him (the Imam) (a.s.), saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause against all evil, a woman has breastfed a young she-goat and weaned it. It grew up and gave birth. Is it permissible to use its milk and flesh for food?’ He (the Imam) wrote back saying, ‘It is an undesirable act but it is not unlawful.’ ”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع إِنَّ لَنَا رَطْبَةً وَ أَرُزّاً فَمَا الَّذِي عَلَيْنَا فِيهَا فَقَالَ ع أَمَّا الرَّطْبَةُ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ فِيهَا شَيْ‌ءٌ وَ أَمَّا الْأَرُزُّ فَمَا سَقَتِ السَّمَاءُ بِالْعُشْرِ وَ مَا سُقِيَ بِالدَّلْوِ فَنِصْفُ الْعُشْرِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَا كِلْتَ بِالصَّاعِ أَوْ قَالَ وَ كِيلَ بِالْمِكْيَالِ.

5. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from Ahmad ibn Sama‘ah from those whom he has mentioned from Aban from abu Maryam who has said the foilowing: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about plantation and what is subject to Zakat from it. He (the Imam) said, ‘There is Zakat on wheat, barley, corn, rice, al-sult, and lintels and all of these are subject to Zakat.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Everything that is measured by al-Sa‘ and amounts to al- Awsaq are subject to Zakat.’”

5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin was asked about a lamb that was fed with the milk of a pig. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must quarantine it and feed it animal feed, oil residue, nuts, barley and bread, if it is independent of milk; but if it is not independent of milk then feed it with milk of a sheep for seven days, then it can be used for food.’”

3. It is also narrated that abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Everything that is measured by al- Qafiz are dealt with like wheat, barley, dates and raisins. He then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, is there Zakat on rice and similar things like beans and lintel?’ He (the Imam) ‘Alayhi al-Salam, signed, ‘Pay charity from everything that is measured.’”

كُلُّ مَا دَخَلَ الْقَفِيزَ فَهُوَ يَجْرِي مَجْرَى الْحِنْطَةِ وَ الشَّعِيرِ وَ التَّمْرِ وَ الزَّبِيبِ قَالَ فَأَخْبِرْنِي جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ هَلْ عَلَى هَذَا الْأَرُزِّ وَ مَا أَشْبَهَهُ مِنَ الْحُبُوبِ الْحِمَّصِ وَ الْعَدَسِ‌ زَكَاةٌ فَوَقَّعَ ع صَدَقُوا الزَّكَاةُ فِي كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ كِيلَ.

4. It is narrated from him (narrator of previous Hadith) Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘We have fresh dates and rice. So what we owe for it?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You do not owe anything because of fresh dates. If rice is watered by rains from the sky one out of ten is Zakat but if it is watered with buckets then one out of twenty is Zakat on whatever you measure by al-Sa‘ or that he (the Imam) said, ‘Whatever is measured by measuring devices.’”
