إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بَعَثَ أَرْبَعَةَ أَمْلَاكٍ فِي إِهْلَاكِ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ- جَبْرَئِيلَ وَ مِيكَائِيلَ وَ إِسْرَافِيلَ وَ كَرُوبِيلَ فَمَرُّوا بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ ع وَ هُمْ مُعْتَمُّونَ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُمْ وَ رَأَى هَيْئَةً حَسَنَةً فَقَالَ لَا يَخْدُمُ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا أَنَا بِنَفْسِي وَ كَانَ صَاحِبَ ضِيَافَةٍ فَشَوَى لَهُمْ عِجْلًا سَمِيناً حَتَّى أَنْضَجَهُ ثُمَّ قَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ فَلَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ قَبَّلَ غُلَاماً مِنْ شَهْوَةٍ أَلْجَمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِلِجَامٍ مِنْ نَارٍ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘One who kisses a boy with lust, Allah on the Day of Judgment will harness him with a harness of fire.’”

لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْمُتَشَبِّهِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ بِالنِّسَاءِ وَ الْمُتَشَبِّهَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ بِالرِّجَالِ قَالَ وَ هُمُ الْمُخَنَّثُونَ وَ اللَّاتِي يَنْكِحْنَ بَعْضُهُنَّ بَعْضاً.

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي ابْتُلِيتُ بِبَلَاءٍ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّهُ يُؤْتَى فِي دُبُرِهِ فَقَالَ مَا أَبْلَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَاءِ أَحَداً لَهُ فِيهِ حَاجَةٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبِي قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي لَا يَقْعُدُ عَلَى إِسْتَبْرَقِهَا وَ حَرِيرِهَا مَنْ يُؤْتَى فِي دُبُرِهِ.

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَوْ أَبَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع- عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تُسَاحِقُ الْمَرْأَةَ وَ كَانَ مُتَّكِئاً فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ مَلْعُونَةٌ الرَّاكِبَةُ وَ الْمَرْكُوبَةُ وَ مَلْعُونَةٌ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ أَثْوَابِهَا الرَّاكِبَةُ وَ الْمَرْكُوبَةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى وَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ وَ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ يَلْعَنُونَهُمَا وَ أَنَا وَ مَنْ بَقِيَ فِي أَصْلَابِ الرِّجَالِ وَ أَرْحَامِ النِّسَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ تَزَوَّجُوا إِلَى آلِ فُلَانٍ فَإِنَّهُمْ عَفُّوا فَعَفَّتْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ وَ لَا تَزَوَّجُوا إِلَى آلِ فُلَانٍ فَإِنَّهُمْ بَغَوْا فَبَغَتْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ وَ قَالَ مَكْتُوبٌ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ أَنَا اللَّهُ قَاتِلُ الْقَاتِلِينَ وَ مُفْقِرُ الزَّانِينَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا تَزْنُوا فَتَزْنِيَ نِسَاؤُكُمْ كَمَا تَدِينُ تُدَانُ.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْعَفَافِ وَ تَرْكِ الْفُجُورِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must maintain chastity and you must stay away from sinful deeds.”’

سَعِيدَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهَا وَ كَانَ مَعَ سَعِيدَةَ غَيْرُهَا فَقَالَتْ أَ رَضِيتُنَّ قَالَ فَتَزَوَّجَهَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع فَكَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ حَتَّى مَاتَ عَنْهَا فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ جَوَارِيَهُ جَعَلْنَ يَأْخُذْنَ بِأَرْدَانِهِ وَ ثِيَابِهِ‌[2] وَ هُوَ سَاكِتٌ يَضْحَكُ وَ لَا يَقُولُ لَهُنَّ شَيْئاً فَذُكِرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَا شَيْ‌ءٌ مِثْلَ الْحَرَائِرِ.

كَانَ مَلِكٌ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَ كَانَ لَهُ قَاضٍ وَ لِلْقَاضِي أَخٌ وَ كَانَ رَجُلَ صِدْقٍ وَ لَهُ امْرَأَةٌ قَدْ وَلَدَتْهَا الْأَنْبِيَاءُ فَأَرَادَ الْمَلِكُ أَنْ يَبْعَثَ رَجُلًا فِي حَاجَةٍ فَقَالَ لِلْقَاضِي ابْغِنِي رَجُلًا ثِقَةً فَقَالَ مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَداً أَوْثَقَ مِنْ أَخِي فَدَعَاهُ لِيَبْعَثَهُ فَكَرِهَ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلُ وَ قَالَ لِأَخِيهِ إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أُضَيِّعَ امْرَأَتِي فَعَزَمَ عَلَيْه

لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص رَجُلًا يَنْظُرُ إِلَى فَرْجِ امْرَأَةٍ لَا تَحِلُّ لَهُ وَ رَجُلًا خَانَ أَخَاهُ فِي امْرَأَتِهِ وَ رَجُلًا يَحْتَاجُ النَّاسُ إِلَى نَفْعِهِ فَسَأَلَهُمُ الرِّشْوَةَ.

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع- عَنْ رَجُلٍ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً فَقَالَتْ أَنَا حُبْلَى وَ أَنَا أُخْتُكَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَ أَنَا عَلَى غَيْرِ عِدَّةٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ دَخَلَ بِهَا وَ وَاقَعَهَا فَلَا يُصَدِّقْهَا[2] وَ إِنْ كَانَ لَمْ يَدْخُلْ بِهَا وَ لَمْ يُوَاقِعْهَا فَلْيَخْتَبِرْ وَ لْيَسْأَلْ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ عَرَفَهَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ.

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the case of a man who marries a woman and who says that she is pregnant and that she is his sister because of breastfeeding and that she has not completed her waiting period. أَتَى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَ هَذِهِ ابْنَةُ عَمِّي وَ امْرَأَتِي لَا أَعْلَمُ إِلَّا خَيْراً وَ قَدْ أَتَتْنِي بِوَلَدٍ شَدِيدِ السَّوَادِ مُنْتَشِرِ الْمَنْخِرَيْنِ جَعْدٍ قَطَطٍ أَفْطَسِ الْأَنْفِ لَا أَعْرِفُ شِبْهَهُ فِي أَخْوَالِي وَ لَا فِي أَجْدَادِي فَقَالَ لِامْرَأَتِهِ مَا تَقُولِينَ‌ قَالَتْ لَا[1] وَ الَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيّاً مَا أَقْعَدْتُ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنِّي مُنْذُ م

23. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb in a marfu’ manner from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Once a man from al-Ansar (people of al-Madinah) came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy

كَتَبْتُ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا خَطَبَ إِلَى عَمٍّ لَهُ ابْنَتَهُ فَأَمَرَ بَعْضَ إِخْوَانِهِ أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ ابْنَتَهُ الَّتِي خَطَبَهَا وَ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ أَخْطَأَ بِاسْمِ الْجَارِيَةِ فَسَمَّاهَا بِغَيْرِ اسْمِهَا وَ كَانَ اسْمُهَا فَاطِمَةَ فَسَمَّاهَا بِغَيْرِ اسْمِهَا وَ لَيْسَ لِلرَّجُلِ ابْنَةٌ بِاسْمِ الَّتِي ذَكَرَهَا الزَّوْجُ فَوَقَّعَ ع لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ‌[3].

“I once wrote to him (the Imam) (a.s.), about the case of a man who proposed marriage to the daughter of his uncle who instructed a certain one of his brothers to give his daughter in marriage to him and she is the one for whom he has proposed. The man by mistake gives her a different name and no one of that name exist

فِي رَجُلٍ ادَّعَى عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ أَنَّهُ تَزَوَّجَهَا بِوَلِيٍّ وَ شُهُودٍ وَ أَنْكَرَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ ذَلِكَ فَأَقَامَتْ‌ أُخْتُ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةِ عَلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ الْبَيِّنَةَ أَنَّهُ قَدْ تَزَوَّجَهَا بِوَلِيٍّ وَ شُهُودٍ وَ لَمْ يُوَقِّتَا وَقْتاً فَكَتَبَ أَنَّ الْبَيِّنَةَ بَيِّنَةُ الرَّجُلِ وَ لَا تُقْبَلُ بَيِّنَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ لِأَنَّ الزَّوْجَ قَدِ اسْتَحَقَّ بُضْعَ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ تُرِيدُ أُخْت

“About the case of a man who claims to have married a woman in the presence of witnesses and her guardian but she denies it and the sister of this woman presents testimony that the man has married her in the presence of witnesses and her guardian but she does not prove the time of marriage. سَأَلْتُ الرِّضَا ع قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّ أَخِي مَاتَ وَ تَزَوَّجْتُ امْرَأَتَهُ فَجَاءَ عَمِّي فَادَّعَى أَنَّهُ قَدْ كَانَ تَزَوَّجَهَا سِرّاً فَسَأَلْتُهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَأَنْكَرَتْ أَشَدَّ الْإِنْكَارِ وَ قَالَتْ مَا كَانَ بَيْنِي وَ بَيْنَهُ شَيْ‌ءٌ قَطُّ فَقَالَ يَلْزَمُكَ إِقْرَارُهَا وَ يَلْزَمُهُ إِنْكَارُهَا.

“I once asked al-Rida’ (a.s.), saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, my brother died and I married his widow and my paternal uncle came saying that he had married her secretly. I asked her about it but she denied it vehemently saying, ‘There has never been such a thing between us.’ He (the

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ وَ سُئِلَ عَنِ التَّزْوِيجِ فِي شَوَّالٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ص تَزَوَّجَ بِعَائِشَةَ فِي شَوَّالٍ وَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا كَرِهَ ذَلِكَ فِي شَوَّالٍ أَهْلُ الزَّمَنِ الْأَوَّلِ وَ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ الطَّاعُونَ كَانَ يَقَعُ فِيهِمْ فِي الْأَبْكَارِ وَ الْمُمْلَكَاتِ فَكَرِهُوهُ لِذَلِكَ لَا لِغَيْرِهِ.

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, when he was asked about marriage in the month of Shawwal, ‘The Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, married ‘A’ishah in the month of Shawwal.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘People of the earlier times consid

كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ع أَنَّ لِي قَرَابَةً قَدْ خَطَبَ إِلَيَّ وَ فِي خُلُقِهِ شَيْ‌ءٌ فَقَالَ لَا تُزَوِّجْهُ إِنْ كَانَ سَيِّئَ الْخُلُقِ.

“I once wrote to abu al-Hassan al-Rida’ (a.s.), and asked, ‘One of my relatives has proposed for marriage but there is something in his moral manners. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not give in marriage if his moral manners are bad/”

جَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ص رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ- يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَيْسَ عِنْدِي طَوْلٌ فَأَنْكِحَ النِّسَاءَ فَإِلَيْكَ أَشْكُو الْعُزُوبِيَّةَ فَقَالَ وَفِّرْ شَعْرَ جَسَدِكَ وَ أَدِمِ الصِّيَامَ فَفَعَلَ فَذَهَبَ مَا بِهِ مِنَ الشَّبَقِ.

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from in a marfu’ manner the following: “Once a man came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I do not have the means to get married and I complain before you against

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِذَا جَلَسَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مَجْلِساً فَقَامَتْ عَنْهُ فَلَا يَجْلِسُ فِي مَجْلِسِهَا رَجُلٌ حَتَّى يَبْرُدَ قَالَ وَ سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ص مَا زِينَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ لِلْأَعْمَى قَالَ الطِّيبُ وَ الْخِضَابُ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ طِيبِ النَّسَمَةِ[1].

إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَ عُمَرَ أَتَيَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالا لَهَا يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ إِنَّكِ قَدْ كُنْتِ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ قَبْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَكَيْفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ مِنْ ذَاكِ فِي الْخَلْوَةِ فَقَالَتْ مَا هُوَ إِلَّا كَسَائِرِ الرِّجَالِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَا عَنْهَا وَ أَقْبَلَ النَّبِيُّ ص فَقَامَتْ إِلَيْهِ مُبَادِرَةً فَرَقاً[2] أَنْ يَنْزِلَ أَمْرٌ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ الْخَبَرَ فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ أَهْلَهُ فَلَا يُعَجِّلْهَا.

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع اخْتَضَبَ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ اخْتَضَبْتَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ إِنَّ التَّهْيِئَةَ مِمَّا يَزِيدُ فِي عِفَّةِ النِّسَاءِ وَ لَقَدْ تَرَكَ النِّسَاءُ الْعِفَّةَ بِتَرْكِ أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ التَّهْيِئَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَ يَسُرُّكَ أَنْ تَرَاهَا عَلَى مَا تَرَاكَ عَلَيْهِ إِذَا كُنْتَ عَلَى غَيْرِ تَهْيِئَةٍ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَهُوَ ذَاكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مِنْ أَخْلَاقِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ التَّنَظُّفُ وَ التّ

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَدَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَ هُوَ فِي مَنْزِلِ حَفْصَةَ وَ الْمَرْأَةُ مُتَلَبِّسَةٌ مُتَمَشِّطَةٌ فَدَخَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ لَا تَخْطُبُ الزَّوْجَ وَ أَنَا امْرَأَةٌ أَيِّمٌ لَا زَوْجَ لِي مُنْذُ دَهْرٍ وَ لَا وَلَدَ فَهَلْ لَكَ مِنْ حَاجَةٍ فَإِنْ تَكُ فَقَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ إِنْ قَبِلْتَنِي فَقَالَ

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that once a woman of al-Ansar (people of al-Madinah) came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. She came in the house of Hafsah and she was well dressed and groomed. She came to the Messenger of Allah and sa

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّما أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ‌ أَتَزَوَّجُ فِيكُمْ وَ أُزَوِّجُكُمْ إِلَّا فَاطِمَةَ ع فَإِنَّ تَزْوِيجَهَا نَزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘I am a human being like you. I marry from you and give in marriage to you except Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, because her marriage came from the heaven.’”

قَالَ لِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع يَا سَدِيرُ بَلَغَنِي عَنْ نِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ جَمَالٌ وَ حُسْنُ تَبَعُّلٍ فَابْتَغِ لِي امْرَأَةً ذَاتَ جَمَالٍ فِي مَوْضِعٍ فَقُلْتُ قَدْ أَصَبْتُهَا جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ- فُلَانَةَ بِنْتَ فُلَانِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سَدِيرُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص لَعَنَ قَوْماً فَجَرَتِ اللَّعْنَةُ فِي أَعْقَابِهِمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ أَنَا أَكْرَهُ أَ

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), once said to me, ‘O Sadir, I have heard about the beauty and good manners of the women of al-Kufah with their husbands. Can you find for me a woman with beauty in a place?’ I replied, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I know one. She is daughter of so and so ibn Muhammad ib

سَمِعْتُ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ع يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ يَا عَلِيُّ مُرْ نِسَاءَكَ لَا يُصَلِّينَ عُطُلًا وَ لَوْ يُعَلِّقْنَ فِي أَعْنَاقِهِنَّ سَيْراً[1].

“I once heard Ja’far ibn Muhammad (a.s.), saying that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said, ‘O Ali, instruct your women not to perform Salat (prayer) without having dressed well and not to use a necklace which is made of skin.’”

ذَكَرْتُ لَهُ الْمَجُوسَ وَ أَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ نِكَاحٌ كَنِكَاحِ وُلْدِ آدَمَ وَ إِنَّهُمْ يُحَاجُّونَّا بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَمَّا أَنْتُمْ فَلَا يُحَاجُّونَكُمْ بِهِ لَمَّا أَدْرَكَ هِبَةُ اللَّهِ قَالَ آدَمُ يَا رَبِّ زَوِّجْ هِبَةَ اللَّهِ فَأَهْبَطَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ حَوْرَاءَ فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ أَرْبَعَةَ غِلْمَةٍ ثُمَّ رَفَعَهَا اللَّهُ فَلَمَّا أَدْرَكَ وُلْدُ هِبَةِ اللَّهِ قَالَ يَا رَبِّ زَوِّجْ وُلْ

“I once mentioned to abu Ja‘far (a.s.), Zoroastrians and that they say, ‘A marriage like the marriage of the sons of Adam and that they argue with us about it. He (the Imam) said, ‘They cannot argue against you because of what Hibbahtu Allah found. Adam said, ‘O Lord, find marriage for Hibbahtu Allah.’ Allah, most Maje

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ قَوْلُ الرَّجُلِ لِلْمَرْأَةِ إِنِّي أُحِبُّكِ لَا يَذْهَبُ مِنْ قَلْبِهَا أَبَداً.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The words of a man to a woman, ‘I love you’ never goes away from her heart.’”

قَذَفَ رَجُلٌ رَجُلًا مَجُوسِيّاً عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَقَالَ مَهْ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ إِنَّهُ يَنْكِحُ أُمَّهُ أَوْ أُخْتَهُ فَقَالَ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَهُمْ نِكَاحٌ فِي دِينِهِمْ.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ الْوَلَدُ الصَّالِحُ رَيْحَانَةٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ قَسَمَهَا بَيْنَ عِبَادِهِ وَ إِنَّ رَيْحَانَتَيَّ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا- الْحَسَنُ وَ الْحُسَيْنُ سَمَّيْتُهُمَا بِاسْمِ سِبْطَيْنِ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ شَبَّراً وَ شَبِيراً[2].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘A virtuous son is a sweet smelling flower from Allah which Allah distributes among His servants. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ أَكْثِرُوا الْوَلَدَ أُكَاثِرْ بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ غَداً.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You (my followers) should bring up more children because I will claim to have the majority with you among the nations tomorrow (on the Day of Judgment).

لَمَّا لَقِيَ يُوسُفُ أَخَاهُ قَالَ لَهُ يَا أَخِي كَيْفَ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَتَزَوَّجَ النِّسَاءَ بَعْدِي‌ قَالَ إِنَّ أَبِي أَمَرَنِي وَ قَالَ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ لَكَ ذُرِّيَّةٌ تُثْقِلُ الْأَرْضَ بِالتَّسْبِيحِ فَافْعَلْ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When Yusuf ‘Alayhi al-Salam, met his brother, he asked him, ‘How could you marry women after me?’ He replied, ‘My father commanded me and said, ‘If you like to have such a number of children who can make the earth heavy with Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) you must do so.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مِنْ سَعَادَةِ الرَّجُلِ الْوَلَدُ الصَّالِحُ.

the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Of good fortune and prosperity of a man is his having the virtuous son.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ الْوَلَدَ الصَّالِحَ رَيْحَانَةٌ مِنْ رَيَاحِينِ الْجَنَّةِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘A virtuous son is a sweet smelling flower from the flowers of paradise.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مِنْ سَعَادَةِ الرَّجُلِ الْوَلَدُ الصَّالِحُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘It is of the prosperity and good fortune of a man to have the virtuous son.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَرَّ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ ع بِقَبْرٍ يُعَذَّبُ صَاحِبُهُ ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِهِ مِنْ قَابِلٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ لَا يُعَذَّبُ فَقَالَ يَا رَبِّ مَرَرْتُ بِهَذَا الْقَبْرِ عَامَ أَوَّلَ فَكَانَ يُعَذَّبُ وَ مَرَرْتُ بِهِ الْعَامَ فَإِذَا هُوَ لَيْسَ يُعَذَّبُ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ أَدْرَكَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ صَالِحٌ فَأَصْلَحَ طَرِيقاً وَ آوَى يَتِيماً فَلِهَذَا غَفَرْتُ لَهُ بِمَا فَعَلَ ابْنُهُ

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said the following: ‘Jesus, son of Marry, once passed by a grave wherein its dweller suffered a great suffering. He passed by the same grave afterward but foun

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مِنْ نِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يُشْبِهَهُ وَلَدُهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ’It is of the bounties of Allah for a man to have a son who resembles him.’”

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنِّي مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ قَدِ انْقَرَضُوا وَ لَيْسَ لِي وَلَدٌ قَالَ ادْعُ وَ أَنْتَ سَاجِدٌ- رَبِّ هَبْ‌ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ وَلِيًّا يَرِثُنِي‌ رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعاءِ رَبِّ لا تَذَرْنِي فَرْداً وَ أَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوارِثِينَ‌ قَالَ فَفَعَلْتُ فَوُلِدَ لِي عَلِيٌّ وَ الْحُسَيْنُ.

“I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), that I belong to a family that is extinct and I do not have any children. He (the Imam) said, ‘Pray when you are in Sajdah (prostration), ‘[My Lord, grant me from Your dominion an heir who will inherit me]. O Lord, grant me fine offspring from Your dominion; You hear the prayers.

فَفَعَلْتُ فَأَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ عَنِّي سُقْمِي وَ كَثُرَ وُلْدِي قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ وَ كُنْتُ دَائِمَ الْعِلَّةِ مَا أَنْفَكُّ مِنْهَا فِي نَفْسِي وَ جَمَاعَةِ خَدَمِي وَ عِيَالِي حَتَّى إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَبْقَى وَحْدِي وَ مَا لِي أَحَدٌ يَخْدُمُنِي فَلَمَّا سَمِعْتُ ذَلِكَ مِنْ هِشَامٍ عَمِلْتُ بِهِ فَأَذْهَبَ اللَّهُ عَنِّي وَ عَنْ عِيَالِيَ الْعِلَلَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ.

“Hisham ibn Ibrahim narrated to me that he complained before abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about not having a child. He (the Imam) commanded him to raise his voice with Adhan in his house. He has said, ‘I followed the instruction: then Allah removed my shortcoming and my children became many.’ Muhammad ibn Rashid has said, ’I

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ حَمْلٌ فَنَوَى أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ- مُحَمَّداً أَوْ عَلِيّاً وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ.

“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one’s wife is pregnant and he keeps in his intention to name him Muhammad or Ali, a boy will be born to him.’”

قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ع يَقُولُ‌ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع إِنَّ النُّطْفَةَ تَكُونُ فِي الرَّحِمِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ تَصِيرُ عَلَقَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ تَصِيرُ مُضْغَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً فَإِذَا كَمَلَ أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ مَلَكَيْنِ خَلَّاقَيْنِ‌[1] فَيَقُولَانِ يَا رَبِّ مَا تَخْلُقُ ذَكَراً أَوْ أُنْثَى فَيُؤْمَرَانِ فَيَقُولَانِ يَا رَبِّ شَقِيّاً أَوْ سَعِيداً فَيُؤ

Abu Ja'far (al-Baqir) (as) said: "Sperm in the womb after forty days becomes a clot, and then after another forty days becomes a fetus. When four months pass by, Allah sends two creating angels and they ask, “Oh Lord, what do You want to create, male or female?". They are then commanded accordingly. Then they ask, "Oh

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ النُّطْفَةَ[2] الَّتِي مِمَّا أَخَذَ عَلَيْهَا الْمِيثَاقَ فِي صُلْبِ آدَمَ أَوْ مَا يَبْدُو لَهُ فِيهِ‌[3] وَ يَجْعَلَهَا فِي الرَّحِمِ حَرَّكَ الرَّجُلَ لِلْجِمَاعِ وَ أَوْحَى إِلَى الرَّحِمِ‌[4] أَنِ افْتَحِي بَابَكِ حَتَّى يَلِجَ فِيكِ- خَلْقِي وَ قَضَائِيَ النَّافِذُ وَ قَدَرِي فَتَفْتَحُ الرَّحِمُ بَابَهَا فَتَصِلُ النُّطْفَةُ إِلَى الرَّحِمِ فَتَرَدَّدُ

“Abu Ja’far (a.s.), has said, ‘When Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, wants to create the seed which has formed the covenant when taken from the back of Adam or what appears to Him, (due to al-Bada’ ) He places it in the womb and moves the man to go to bed with the woman (his wife). He inspires the womb to open its

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنِ الْخَلْقِ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى لَمَّا خَلَقَ الْخَلْقَ مِنْ طِينٍ أَفَاضَ بِهَا كَإِفَاضَةِ الْقِدَاحِ‌[2] فَأَخْرَجَ الْمُسْلِمَ فَجَعَلَهُ سَعِيداً وَ جَعَلَ الْكَافِرَ شَقِيّاً فَإِذَا وَقَعَتِ النُّطْفَةُ تَلَقَّتْهَا الْمَلَائِكَةُ فَصَوَّرُوهَا ثُمَّ قَالُوا يَا رَبِّ أَ ذَكَراً أَوْ أُنْثَى فَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ جَلَّ جَلَالُهُ أَيَّ ذَلِكَ شَاءَ فَيَقُولَانِ تَ

“I once asked abu Ja‘far (a.s.), about the creation. He (the Imam) said, ‘When Allah, most Blessed, most High, created the creation from clay He poured them as arrows are poured, took out the Muslim ones, made him fortunate and made the unbeliever wicked ones. When the seed falls angels receive it and give it its shape

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا وَقَعَتِ النُّطْفَةُ فِي الرَّحِمِ اسْتَقَرَّتْ فِيهَا أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ تَكُونُ عَلَقَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ تَكُونُ مُضْغَةً أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُ اللَّهُ مَلَكَيْنِ خَلَّاقَيْنِ فَيُقَالُ لَهُمَا اخْلُقَا كَمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ ذَكَراً أَوْ أُنْثَى صَوِّرَاهُ وَ اكْتُبَا أَجَلَهُ وَ رِزْقَهُ وَ مَنِيَّتَهُ‌[1] وَ شَقِيّاً أَوْ سَعِيداً وَ اكْتُبَا لِلَّه

“I once heard abu Ja‘far (a.s.), saying, ‘When the seed falls in the womb it settles there for forty days, remains as a clot for forty days and as an embryo for another forty days. Allah then sends two creative angels with instruction to create him, as Allah wants it to be. It can be a male or a female. They shape him

اسْتَعْمَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَفْرِضَ لِشَبَابِ قُرَيْشٍ‌[1] فَفَرَضَ لَهُمْ فَقَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُكَ فَقُلْتُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ فَقَالَ مَا اسْمُ أَخِيكَ فَقُلْتُ عَلِيٌّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ وَ عَلِيٌّ مَا يُرِيدُ أَبُوكَ أَنْ يَدَعَ أَحَداً مِنْ وُلْدِهِ إِلَّا سَمَّاهُ عَلِيّاً ثُمَّ فَرَضَ لِي فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى أَبِ

“Mu‘awiyah appointed Marwan ibn al-Hakam as his agent in al-Madinah and ordered him to pay a certain salary to the young people of Quraysh which he did. Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘I went to him and he asked, ‘What is your name?’ I replied, ‘It is Ali ibn al-Husayn.’ He then asked, ‘What is the nam

هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ أُذِنَ لَهُمْ فِي التَّسْمِيَةِ بِهِ فَمَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُمْ فِي يس يَعْنِي التَّسْمِيَةَ وَ هُوَ اسْمُ النَّبِيِّ ص‌[5].

“Abu Ja‘far, or abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has stated this Hadith. ‘This is ‘Muhammad’ (the Messenger of Allah) who has given them permission to name themselves with his name. However, who has given them permission to name themselves ‘Yasin’ which is the name of the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad an

تَقُولُ عَلَى الْعَقِيقَةِ إِذَا عَقَقْتَ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَ بِاللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ عَقِيقَةٌ عَنْ فُلَانٍ لَحْمُهَا بِلَحْمِهِ وَ دَمُهَا بِدَمِهِ وَ عَظْمُهَا بِعَظْمِهِ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ وِقَاءً لآِلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ص‌[1].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘When you offer ‘Aqiqah say, ‘In the name of Allah and with Allah; it is an ‘Aqiqah for so and so. Its flesh is for his flesh, its blood for his blood and its bones for his bones. O Lord, make it a protection for Muhammad and family of Muhammad (SAW).’”
