The Case of Tawaf of One Suffering from an Illness and One Who Is Carried by Someone Else for Tawaf

شَهِدْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ هُوَ يُطَافُ بِهِ حَوْلَ الْكَعْبَةِ فِي مَحْمِلٍ وَ هُوَ شَدِيدُ الْمَرَضِ فَكَانَ كُلَّمَا بَلَغَ الرُّكْنَ الْيَمَانِيَّ أَمَرَهُمْ فَوَضَعُوهُ بِالْأَرْضِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ كَوَّةِ الْمَحْمِلِ حَتَّى يَجُرَّهَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ ارْفَعُونِي فَلَمَّا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ مِرَاراً فِي كُلِّ شَوْطٍ قُلْتُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ هَذَا يَشُقُّ

“I saw abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), being carried for Tawaf around al-Ka‘bah in a carriage and he was seriously ill. Whenever he would reach al-Yemaniy corner he commanded to place him on the ground, and he would extend his hand from the carriage and pull it on the ground then say, ’Lift me up.’ When he did so many times in

الْمَبْطُونُ وَ الْكَسِيرُ يُطَافُ عَنْهُمَا وَ يُرْمَى عَنْهُمَا الْجِمَارُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘One who has trouble in his stomach or broken body parts is carried for Tawaf and al-Jamar (pebbles) are thrown for him.’”

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَرِيضِ الْمَغْلُوبِ يُطَافُ عَنْهُ بِالْكَعْبَةِ قَالَ لَا وَ لَكِنْ يُطَافُ بِهِ.

“I once asked abu Ibrahim (a.s.), about a man who is ill; if Tawaf around al-Ka‘bah can be made for him. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, he can be carried around al-Ka‘bah for Tawaf.’”

الصِّبْيَانُ يُطَافُ بِهِمْ وَ يُرْمَى عَنْهُمْ قَالَ وَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذَا كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مَرِيضَةً لَا تَعْقِلُ يُطَافُ بِهَا أَوْ يُطَافُ عَنْهَا.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Children must be carried for Tawaf and al-Jamar (pebbles) are thrown on their behalf.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a woman is ill and cannot understand she can be carried for Tawaf or Tawaf can be made on her behalf.’”

كُنْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ عِنْدَهُ ابْنُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَ ابْنُهُ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ يَطُوفُ الرَّجُلُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ وَ هُوَ مُقِيمٌ بِمَكَّةَ لَيْسَ بِهِ عِلَّةٌ فَقَالَ لَا لَوْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ يَجُوزُ لَأَمَرْتُ ابْنِي فُلَاناً فَطَافَ عَنِّي سَمَّى الْأَصْغَرَ وَ هُمَا يَسْمَعَانِ‌[1].

“I was next to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), and with him (the Imam) was his son ‘Abd Allah and his other son born after him. A man asked him (the Imam), ‘May Allah keep you well, can a man perform Tawaf for a man who lives in Makkah and who has no difficulties?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, if that was permissible I would have a

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِذَا فَرَغْتَ مِنْ طَوَافِكَ فَائْتِ مَقَامَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع فَصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَ اجْعَلْهُ أَمَاماً[2] وَ اقْرَأْ فِي الْأُولَى مِنْهُمَا- سُورَةَ التَّوْحِيدِ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ قُلْ يا أَيُّهَا الْكافِرُونَ‌ ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدْ وَ احْمَدِ اللَّهَ وَ أَثْنِ عَلَيْهِ وَ صَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ص وَ اسْأَلْهُ أَنْ يَتَقَبَّلَ مِنْكَ وَ هَاتَانِ الرَّكْعَتَانِ هُمَ
