The Case of Ihram of Women Experiencing Menses

ذَكَرْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْمُسْتَحَاضَةَ فَذَكَرَ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتَ عُمَيْسٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَسْمَاءَ وَلَدَتْ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ بِالْبَيْدَاءِ وَ كَانَ فِي وِلَادَتِهَا الْبَرَكَةُ لِلنِّسَاءِ لِمَنْ وَلَدَتْ مِنْهُنَّ أَوْ طَمِثَتْ فَأَمَرَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فَاسْتَثْفَرَتْ وَ تَنَطَّقَتْ بِمِنْطَقَةٍ وَ أَحْرَمَتْ‌[5].

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman who experiences Istihadah (kind of menses). He (the Imam) mentioned ’Asma’ bint ‘Umays and said, ’Asma’ gave birth to Muhammad ibn abu Bakr in al-Bayda’ and in the case of her giving birth there was blessing for women who give birth or experience Hayd (mens

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْمَرْأَةُ الْحَائِضُ تُحْرِمُ وَ هِيَ لَا تُصَلِّي قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْوَقْتَ فَلْتُحْرِمْ.

“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman who experiences Hayd (menses); if she can assume the state of Ihram when she cannot perform Salat (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, she can do so when it is time for assuming the state of Ihram.’”

سُئِلَ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ حَاضَتْ وَ هِيَ تُرِيدُ الْإِحْرَامَ فَتَطْمَثُ قَالَ تَغْتَسِلُ وَ تَحْتَشِي بِكُرْسُفٍ وَ تَلْبَسُ ثِيَابَ الْإِحْرَامِ وَ تُحْرِمُ فَإِذَا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ خَلَعَتْهَا وَ لَبِسَتْ ثِيَابَهَا الْأُخَرَ حَتَّى تَطْهُرَ.

‘She must take Ghusl (bath), fill her uterus with cotton, wear the cloth of Ihram, during the night take them off and use normal clothes until she is clean of her Hayd (menses).”’
