إِنْ كَانَتْ قَدْ حَجَّتْ وَ كَانَتْ مُسْلِمَةً فَقِيهَةً[2] فَرُبَّ امْرَأَةٍ أَفْقَهُ مِنْ رَجُلٍ.
“I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of an al-Sarurah (one who performs al- Hajj for the first time) woman who performs al-Hajj on behalf of an al-Sarurah man. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is sufficient if she is a Muslimah and faqihah (knowledgeable in matters of Shari‘ah); many women are more faqihah (know
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الرَّجُلُ يَحُجُّ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ وَ الْمَرْأَةُ تَحُجُّ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), if women can perform al-Hajj on behalf of men and men can perform al-Hajj on behalf of women. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِنَا مَاتَ أَخُوهَا فَأَوْصَى بِحَجَّةٍ وَ قَدْ حَجَّتِ الْمَرْأَةُ فَقَالَتْ إِنْ صَلَحَ حَجَجْتُ أَنَا عَنْ أَخِي وَ كُنْتُ أَنَا أَحَقَّ بِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِي فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع لَا بَأْسَ بِأَنْ تَحُجَّ عَنْ أَخِيهَا وَ إِنْ كَانَ لَهَا مَالٌ فَلْتَحُجَّ مِنْ مَالِهَا فَإِنَّهُ أَعْظَمُ لِأَجْرِهَا.
“I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the case of a woman from our people whose brother has died and has said in his will to perform al-Hajj on his behalf. The woman who has performed al-Hajj said that if it is proper, she wants to perform al-Hajj on behalf of her brother, because she has a greater degree of prior
تَحُجُّ الْمَرْأَةُ عَنْ أَخِيهَا وَ عَنْ أُخْتِهَا وَ قَالَ تَحُجُّ الْمَرْأَةُ عَنِ ابْنِهَا.
‘It is permissible for a woman to perform al-Hajj for her brother, and sister.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘She can perform al-Hajj for her son also.’”
