The Reward of Voluntary Prayers During the Time of Heedlessness

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الضُّحَى فَقَالَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ صَلَّاهَا قَوْمُكَ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ فَيُصَلُّونَهَا وَ لَمْ يُصَلِّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص وَ قَالَ إِنَّ عَلِيّاً ع مَرَّ عَلَى رَجُلٍ وَ هُوَ يُصَلِّيهَا فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ع مَا هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَالَ أَدَعُهَا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ- فَقَالَ ع أَكُونُ أَنْهَى‌ عَبْداً إِذا صَلَّى‌[1].

"I asked him about the Duha prayer” Imam (as) said: ‘The first people to perform it were your people, for they were among the heedless, so they performed it. The Messenger of Allah (sw) did not perform it.' He also said: 'Imam Ali (as) passed by a man who was performing it, and Imam Ali (as) said: ‘What is this prayer?

ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنْهَا الْوَتْرُ وَ رَكْعَتَانِ قَبْلَ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ كَذَلِكَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يُصَلِّي وَ لَوْ كَانَ فَضْلًا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص أَعْمَلَ بِهِ وَ أَحَقَ‌[2].

Hadith.1564 - Abdullah ibn Sinan asked Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (as) about the prayer during the month of Ramadan. Hadith.1565 - Uqbah ibn Khalid asked Him (Imam Abu Abdullah (as)) about a man who was praying and another man called out to him, causing him to become distracted and respond to the person's request. What should he do? Imam (as) said: "He should continue with his prayer."

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ أَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَهُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَابْتَدَأَنِي مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ أَسْأَلَهُ فَقَالَ إِذَا لَقِيتَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِالصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ الْمَفْرُوضَاتِ لَمْ يَسْأَلْكَ عَمَّا سِوَى ذَلِكَ‌[4].
