1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I heard abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), say, ‘When going to a restroom say, “In the name of Allah, O Lord, I seek protection with You against filth and the filthy, unclean Satan, condemned to be stoned.” When coming out of a restroom say, “In the name of Allah, all praise belongs to Allah who has saved me from filth and filthy materials and has removed from me hardship.” When taking Wudu’ say, “I testify that no one, other than Allah, deserves to be worshipped. 1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from al-Walid ibn Sabih who has said the following: “Once I was in the presence of abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when someone came asking for help. He gave him charity, then another one came, he gave him charity, yet another came for help, and he gave him charity. Then one more came for help and he said, ‘Allah will provide you.’ The Imam then said, ‘One may possess thirty or forty thousand dirham and then decide to spend it for a true cause until nothing is left with him. So he becomes one of the three kinds of people whose prayers are not heard.’ I then asked, ‘Who are such people?’ He replied, ‘One of them is a man who has a certain amount of wealth that he spends improperly and then prays to Allah for more wealth. He is then asked, “Have We not created ways and means to accumulate wealth?”’ (There is a mention of the other two kinds of people in al-Kafi, vol. 2, part 2, book of prayer Chapter 32 Hadith 1).

12. A group, from Sahl Bin Ziyad, from Muhammad, from his father, from Abu Muhammad has narrated: Abu Abdullah (asws) having said when asked about the Statement of Allah (azwj): “[91:1] I swear by the sun and its brilliance,”, said: ‘The sun (is a reference to) the Messenger (saww) of Allah (azwj) by whom (saww) Allah (azwj) Mighty and Majestic Clarified for the people their Religion’. ‘I then asked, ‘(What about) “[91:2] And the moon when it follows the sun”? He (asws) said: ‘That is Amir-ul-Momineen (asws) following the Messenger (saww) of Allah (azwj), and emitted the knowledge by reradiating (like moon reflects the rays to the earth which fall on its surface from the sun)’. ‘I then asked, ‘(What about) “[91:4] And the night when it draws a veil over it”?’ Imam (asws) said: ‘That (is a reference to) the imams of the injustice who tyrannised by the command the Progeny (asws) of the Messenger (saww) and seated themselves upon a set which was for the Progeny (asws) of the Messenger (saww) who (asws) were higher (more deserving) for it than them. They veiled the Religion of Allah (azwj) by the injustices and the tyranny. So Allah (azwj) has Referred to their deeds by Saying “[91:4] And the night when it draws a veil over it”. ‘I then asked, (What about) “[91:3] By the Day as it shows up (the Sun’s) clarity”?’ He (asws) said: ‘That (is a reference to) the Imams (asws) from the descendants of Fatima (sa), when asked about the Religion of the Messenger (saww) of Allah (azwj) so they clarify it for the one who has asked (from them (asws)). So Allah (azwj) has referred it in His (azwj) Statement by Saying “[91:3] By the Day as it shows up (the Sun’s) clarity”.

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ’Isa from Sama’a ibn Mahran who has reported the following: “Once I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) about the words of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, ‘Exercise patience as the messengers who possessed determination had exercised patience. . . . ’(46:35) The Imam said, ‘They were Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (a.s.).’ I then asked, ‘How did they become messengers who possessed great determination?’ The Imam replied, ‘It was because Noah had received a book from Allah and a system of laws and those who came after Noah, they followed his book and his system of laws until Abraham came with books and firm determination. He left the book of Noah aside but not out of rejection. Thereafter every prophet followed the system of laws of Abraham and his books (al-Suhuf) until Moses came with the Torah, his system of laws and with firm determination. He left the books (al-Suhuf) aside. Every prophet thereafter followed the Torah and the system of laws of Moses until Jesus came with the Gospel and firm determination. He left aside the system of laws of Moses. Every prophet thereafter followed the system of laws of Jesus until Prophet Muhammad (a.s.) came. He brought the Holy Quran and his system of laws (the Shari’a). All that is lawful in his system of laws will remain lawful until the Day of Judgment and all that is unlawful in his system of laws will remain unlawful until the Day of Judgment. This is how the messengers who possessed firm determination have been.’”
