إِنَّ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتَ جَحْشٍ قَالَتْ أَ يَرَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِنْ خَلَّى سَبِيلَنَا أَنَّا لَا نَجِدُ زَوْجاً غَيْرَهُ وَ قَدْ كَانَ اعْتَزَلَ نِسَاءَهُ تِسْعاً وَ عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً فَلَمَّا قَالَتْ زَيْنَبُ الَّذِي قَالَتْ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ إِلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ص فَقَالَ- قُلْ لِأَزْواجِكَ إِنْ كُنْتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ الْحَياةَ الدُّنْيا وَ زِينَتَها فَتَعالَيْنَ أُمَتِّعْكُنَ‌ الْآيَتَيْنِ كِلْتَي

إِذَا مَلَكَ الرَّجُلُ وَالِدَيْهِ أَوْ أُخْتَهُ أَوْ خَالَتَهُ أَوْ عَمَّتَهُ عَتَقُوا عَلَيْهِ وَ يَمْلِكُ ابْنَ أَخِيهِ وَ عَمَّهُ وَ يَمْلِكُ أَخَاهُ وَ عَمَّهُ وَ خَالَهُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ[1].

إِذَا مَلَكَ الرَّجُلُ وَالِدَيْهِ أَوْ أُخْتَهُ أَوْ عَمَّتَهُ أَوْ خَالَتَهُ عَتَقُوا- وَ يَمْلِكُ ابْنَ أَخِيهِ وَ عَمَّهُ وَ خَالَهُ وَ يَمْلِكُ أَخَاهُ وَ عَمَّهُ وَ خَالَهُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ.

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ كَانَ لَهُ أَبٌ مَمْلُوكٌ وَ كَانَتْ لِأَبِيهِ امْرَأَةٌ مُكَاتَبَةٌ قَدْ أَدَّتْ بَعْضَ مَا عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا ابْنُ الْعَبْدِ هَلْ لَكِ أَنْ أُعِينَكِ فِي مُكَاتَبَتِكِ حَتَّى تُؤَدِّي مَا عَلَيْكِ بِشَرْطِ أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ لَكِ الْخِيَارُ عَلَى أَبِي إِذَا أَنْتِ مَلَكْتِ نَفْسَكِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَعْطَاهَا فِي مُكَاتَبَتِهَا عَلَى أَنْ لَا يَكُونَ لَهَا الْخِيَارُ عَلَيْهِ بَعْدَ مَا

إِذَا مَلَكَ الطَّائِرُ جَنَاحَهُ فَهُوَ لِمَنْ أَخَذَهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a bird has full control over its wings (is able to fly) it then belongs to whoever catches it . 555

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ إِنَّ الطَّيْرَ إِذَا مَلَكَ جَنَاحَيْهِ فَهُوَ صَيْدٌ وَ هُوَ حَلَالٌ لِمَنْ أَخَذَهُ.

The birds which have full control over their wings, belong to whoever catches them and they are lawful for them . 555

قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنَّا نَجِدُ لِطَعَامِ الْعُرْسِ رَائِحَةً لَيْسَتْ بِرَائِحَةِ غَيْرِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَا مِنْ عُرْسٍ يَكُونُ يُنْحَرُ فِيهِ جَزُورٌ أَوْ تُذْبَحُ بَقَرَةٌ أَوْ شَاةٌ إِلَّا بَعَثَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى مَلَكاً مَعَهُ قِيرَاطٌ مِنْ مِسْكِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يُدِيفَهُ فِي طَعَامِهِمْ‌[2] فَتِلْكَ الرَّائِحَةُ الَّتِي تُشَمُّ لِذَلِكَ.

“A man once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), ‘Why do we find the aroma in a food for wedding which is not found in other food?’ He (the Imam) said, ’In every wedding for which a camel or sheep or a cow is slaughtered Allah, most Blessed, most High, sends an angel with a carat (carafe) of musk from paradise which he soaks

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِذَا وُضِعَتِ الْمَائِدَةُ حَفَّتْهَا أَرْبَعَةُ آلَافِ مَلَكٍ فَإِذَا قَالَ الْعَبْدُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ قَالَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ بَارَكَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي طَعَامِكُمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ لِلشَّيْطَانِ اخْرُجْ يَا فَاسِقُ لَا سُلْطَانَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِذَا فَرَغُوا فَقَالُوا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ قَالَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ قَوْمٌ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَأَدَّوْا شُكْرَ رَبِّهِمْ وَ إِذَا لَمْ

“When the table is spread four thousand angels surround it and when a servant of Allah says, ‘In the name of Allah’ the angels say, ‘May Allah grant you blessings in your food.’ Then they (angels) say to Satan, ‘Move away, O disobedient, you have no authority over them.’ When they complete eating their food and say, ‘A

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص إِذَا طَعِمَ عِنْدَ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ قَالَ لَهُمْ طَعِمَ عِنْدَكُمُ الصَّائِمُونَ وَ أَكَلَ عِنْدَكُمُ الْأَبْرَارُ وَ صَلَّتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ الْأَخْيَارُ.

‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, when eating food with a family would say to them, “Fasting people have received food with you, virtuous people have eaten food with you and chosen angels have prayed for you.’””

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ لَوْ أَغْنَى عَنِ الْمَوْتِ شَيْ‌ءٌ لَأَغْنَتِ التَّلْبِينَةُ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ مَا التَّلْبِينَةُ قَالَ الْحَسْوُ بِاللَّبَنِ الْحَسْوُ بِاللَّبَنِ وَ كَرَّرَهَا ثَلَاثاً. - وَ رَوَاهُ سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنِ الْأَصَمِّ عَنْ مِسْمَعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ مِثْلَهُ.

مَا مِنْ شَيْ‌ءٍ أُشَارَكُ فِيهِ أَبْغَضَ إِلَيَّ مِنَ الرُّمَّانِ وَ مَا مِنْ رُمَّانَةٍ إِلَّا وَ فِيهَا حَبَّةٌ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ فَإِذَا أَكَلَهَا الْكَافِرُ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ مَلَكاً فَانْتَزَعَهَا مِنْهُ.

‘There is nothing I hate sharing more than pomegranate and in every pomegranate there is one seed from paradise, thus when an unbeliever eats it, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sends an angel to take it from him.’”

كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع إِذَا أَكَلَ الرُّمَّانَ بَسَطَ تَحْتَهُ مِنْدِيلًا فَسُئِلَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ فِيهِ حَبَّاتٍ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ وَ النَّصَارَى وَ مَنْ سِوَاهُمْ يَأْكُلُونَهُ فَقَالَ إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ مَلَكاً فَانْتَزَعَهَا مِنْهُ لِكَيْلَا يَأْكُلَهَا.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin when eating pomegranate would spread a handkerchief. He was asked about it and he replied, ‘There is a grain from paradise in it.’ It was said that Jews, Christians and others eat it. He (the Imam) said, ‘When that happens Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, send

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ نَزَلَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع عَلَيَّ بِالْخِلَالِ.

Jibril came to me with the toothpick.’”

قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ نَزَلَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص بِالسِّوَاكِ وَ الْخِلَالِ وَ الْحِجَامَةِ.

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to me, ‘Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) with the toothbrush, toothpick and cupping.’”

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِذْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ الْقُمِّيُّ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ أَشْرَبُ الْمَاءَ وَ أَنَا قَائِمٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ إِنْ شِئْتَ قَالَ أَ فَأَشْرَبُ بِنَفَسٍ وَاحِدٍ حَتَّى أَرْوَى قَالَ إِنْ شِئْتَ قَالَ فَأَسْجُدُ وَ يَدِي فِي ثَوْبِي قَالَ إِنْ شِئْتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع إِنِّي وَ اللَّهِ مَا مِنْ هَذَا وَ شِبْهِهِ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ.

“Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when ‘Abd al-Malik al-Qummiy came and said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep you well, can I drink water standing?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You can do so if you like.’ He then asked, ‘Can I drink in one breath until I am satisfied?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If you like you can do so.’ He then a

سَمِعْتُ سَيِّدَنَا عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِنَّ مَلَكاً يَهْبِطُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فِي كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ مَعَهُ ثَلَاثَةُ مَثَاقِيلَ مِسْكاً مِنْ مِسْكِ الْجَنَّةِ فَيَطْرَحُهَا فِي الْفُرَاتِ وَ مَا مِنْ نَهَرٍ فِي شَرْقِ الْأَرْضِ وَ لَا غَرْبِهَا أَعْظَمَ بَرَكَةً مِنْهُ.

‘Every night an angel from the heaven descends with three ounces of musk of the ounces of the garden (paradises) and throws it in the Euphrates. There is no other canal in the east or west of earth more blessed than Euphrates.’”

لَمَّا هَبَطَ نُوحٌ ع مِنَ السَّفِينَةِ غَرَسَ غَرْساً وَ كَانَ فِيمَا غَرَسَ ع الْحَبَلَةُ[1] ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ إِبْلِيسُ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ فَقَلَعَهَا ثُمَّ إِنَّ نُوحاً ع عَادَ إِلَى غَرْسِهِ فَوَجَدَهُ عَلَى حَالِهِ وَ وَجَدَ الْحَبَلَةَ قَدْ قُلِعَتْ وَ وَجَدَ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ عِنْدَهَا فَأَتَاهُ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ قَلَعَهَا فَقَالَ نُوحٌ لِإِبْ

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘When Noah (a.s.), disembarked from the ark, he established a plantation and of the things that he planted was a vine of grapes. He went back to his family and Iblis, may he be condemned, uprooted it. Noah (a.s.), went to his plantation. He found everything in its condition except the grap

إِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ نَازَعَ نُوحاً ع فِي الْكَرْمِ فَأَتَاهُ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع فَقَالَ إِنَّ لَهُ حَقّاً فَأَعْطِهِ فَأَعْطَاهُ الثُّلُثَ فَلَمْ يَرْضَ إِبْلِيسُ ثُمَّ أَعْطَاهُ النِّصْفَ فَلَمْ يَرْضَ فَطَرَحَ جَبْرَئِيلُ نَاراً فَأَحْرَقَتِ الثُّلُثَيْنِ وَ بَقِيَ الثُّلُثُ فَقَالَ مَا أَحْرَقَتِ النَّارُ فَهُوَ نَصِيبُهُ وَ مَا بَقِيَ فَهُوَ لَكَ يَا نُوحُ حَلَالٌ.

Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Kufiy from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sa‘id ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Iblis, may Allah condemned him, disputed with Noah (a.s.) about the grape vine and Jibril (a.s.), came and said, ‘He has a right, so give him? He

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ يَا يُونُسَ بْنَ ظَبْيَانَ أَبْلِغْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنِّي أَنَّهُ مَنْ شَرِبَ جُرْعَةً مِنْ خَمْرٍ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ مَلَائِكَتُهُ وَ رُسُلُهُ وَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ فَإِنْ شَرِبَهَا حَتَّى يَسْكَرَ مِنْهَا نُزِعَ رُوحُ الْإِيمَانِ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ وَ رَكِبَتْ فِيهِ رُوحٌ سَخِيفَةٌ خَبِيثَةٌ مَلْعُونَةٌ فَيَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِذَا تَرَكَ الصَّلَاةَ عَيَّرَتْهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ قَا

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to me, £ 0 Yunus ibn Zabayan, convey my words to ‘Atiyyah that if one drinks one sip of wine Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, condemns him and so also do His angels, His Messengers and the believing people. قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ بَيْتُ الْغِنَاءِ لَا تُؤْمَنُ فِيهِ الْفَجِيعَةُ وَ لَا تُجَابُ فِيهِ الدَّعْوَةُ وَ لَا يَدْخُلُهُ الْمَلَكُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘The house of music (and singing) is not safe from tragedy, prayers are not accepted and angels do not enter in it.’”

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ إِذَا كَسَا اللَّهُ تَعَالَى الْمُؤْمِنَ ثَوْباً جَدِيداً فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ وَ لْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا أُمَّ الْكِتَابِ وَ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ وَ إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ ثُمَّ لْيَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ الَّذِي سَتَرَ عَوْرَتَهُ وَ زَيَّنَهُ فِي النَّاسِ وَ لْيُكْثِرْ مِنْ قَوْلِ- لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَعْصِي اللَّهَ فِ

"’Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said, ‘When Allah, the most High, dresses a believing man with a new clothe, he must perform wudu and perform a two rak’at prayer in which he should recite Umm al-Kitab (Surah 1), Ayat al-Kursi (Quran 2:255), and "Qul huwa Allahu ahad" (Surah 112), and "Inna anzalnahu" (Surah 97). الْعَمَائِمُ اعْتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص فَسَدَلَهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ وَ اعْتَمَّ جَبْرَئِيلُ فَسَدَلَهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ.

The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wore a turban and hanged down one end on his front side and the other end down his backside. Jibril wore a turban and hanged down one end on his front side and the other end down his back.’”

كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ الْعَمَائِمُ الْبِيضُ الْمُرْسَلَةُ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that the angels had turbans hanging on them on the day of Badr.”

عَمَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص عَلِيّاً ع بِيَدِهِ فَسَدَلَهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَ قَصَّرَهَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ قَدْرَ أَرْبَعِ أَصَابِعَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَدْبِرْ فَأَدْبَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَقْبِلْ فَأَقْبَلَ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا تِيجَانُ الْمَلَائِكَةِ.

“The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, made Ali (a.s.), to wear turban and hanged one end down his front side but made it shorter for the end hanging down his back by four fingers. He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked him to go back whic

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ع وَ فِي إِصْبَعِهِ خَاتَمٌ فَصُّهُ فَيْرُوزَجٌ نَقْشُهُ اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ‌[1] فَأَدَمْتُ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ تُدِيمُ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ كَانَ لِعَلِيٍّ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع خَاتَمٌ فَصُّهُ فَيْرُوزَجٌ نَقْشُهُ اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ فَقَالَ أَ تَعْرِفُهُ قُلْتُ لَا فَقَالَ هَذَا هُوَ تَدْرِي مَا سَبَبُهُ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ هَذَا حَجَرٌ أَه

“I once visited abu al-Hassan, Musa (a.s.), and on his finger was a ring with a stone which was turquoise with an engraving that said, ’Allah is the owner’. I continued looking on it and he (the Imam) asked, ’Why do you continue looking at it?’ I replied, ‘I have received information that Ali, ’Amir al-Mu’minin had a r

كَانَ نَقْشُ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّ ص مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَ كَانَ نَقْشُ خَاتَمِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ وَ كَانَ نَقْشُ خَاتَمِ أَبِي ع الْعِزَّةُ لِلَّهِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the engraving on the ring of the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said, ‘Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah’. قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ نَفَقَةُ دِرْهَمٍ فِي الْخِضَابِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ نَفَقَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فِيهِ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ خَصْلَةً يَطْرُدُ الرِّيحَ مِنَ الْأُذُنَيْنِ وَ يَجْلُو الْغِشَاءَ عَنِ الْبَصَرِ وَ يُلَيِّنُ الْخَيَاشِيمَ وَ يُطَيِّبُ النَّكْهَةَ وَ يَشُدُّ اللِّثَةَ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْغَشَيَانِ وَ يُقِلُّ وَسْوَسَةَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَ تَفْرَحُ بِهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ يَسْتَبْشِرُ بِهِ الْمُؤْمِنُ وَ

“The Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Spending one dirham on hair dye is better than spending one dirham in the way of Allah. There are fourteen advantages in it. It dispels air from the ears, brightens gloominess from the eyes, soft

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَا زَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع يُوصِينِي بِالسِّوَاكِ حَتَّى خَشِيتُ أَنْ أَدْرَدَ وَ أُحْفِيَ.

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ فِي السِّوَاكِ عَشَرَةُ خِصَالٍ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ وَ مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ وَ مَفْرَحَةٌ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ وَ هُوَ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ وَ يَشُدُّ اللِّثَةَ وَ يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْبَلْغَمِ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْحَفْرِ[1].

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘Tooth brushing has ten qualities. One is its cleansing the mouth, its earning the pleasure of Allah, happiness of angels, it is an act of Sunnah, it strengthens the gums, sharpens eyesight, dispels phlegm and cavities.’”

فِي السِّوَاكِ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ خَصْلَةً هُوَ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ وَ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ وَ مَجْلَاةٌ لِلْبَصَرِ وَ يُرْضِي الرَّبَّ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْبَلْغَمِ وَ يَزِيدُ فِي الْحِفْظِ وَ يُبَيِّضُ الْأَسْنَانَ وَ يُضَاعِفُ الْحَسَنَاتِ وَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْحَفْرِ وَ يَشُدُّ اللِّثَةَ وَ يُشَهِّي الطَّعَامَ وَ تَفْرَحُ بِهِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ.

لَمَّا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ رَسُولَهُ ص بِإِظْهَارِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَ ظَهَرَ الْوَحْيُ رَأَى قِلَّةً مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَ كَثْرَةً مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَاهْتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص هَمّاً شَدِيداً فَبَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَيْهِ جَبْرَئِيلَ ع بِسِدْرٍ مِنْ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى فَغَسَلَ بِهِ رَأْسَهُ فَجَلَا بِهِ هَمَّهُ.

“Ali (a.s.), has said, ‘When Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, commanded the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, to publicly announce his mission, he saw the small number of Muslims and the large number of the pagans. إِذَا اطَّلَى بِالنُّورَةِ- اللَّهُمَّ طَيِّبْ مَا طَهُرَ مِنِّي وَ طَهِّرْ مَا طَابَ مِنِّي وَ أَبْدِلْنِي شَعْراً طَاهِراً لَا يَعْصِيكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي تَطَهَّرْتُ ابْتِغَاءَ سُنَّةِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَ ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِكَ وَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ فَحَرِّمْ شَعْرِي وَ بَشَرِي عَلَى النَّارِ وَ طَهِّرْ خَلْقِي وَ طَيِّبْ خُلُقِي وَ زَكِّ عَمَلِي وَ اجْعَلْنِي مِمَّنْ يَلْقَاكَ عَلَى الْحَنِيفِيَّةِ السَّمْحَةِ مِلَّةِ إِ

“I once heard Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, saying, ‘When applying lime paste one should say, “O Lord, make pleasant what it has cleansed of me and cleanse what it has made pleasant of me. Replace it with clean hairs, which will not disobey You. O Lord, I have cleansed and sought to follow the Sunnah of the mes

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ الطِّيبُ فِي الشَّارِبِ مِنْ أَخْلَاقِ النَّبِيِّينَ ع وَ كَرَامَةٌ لِلْكَاتِبَيْنِ.

‘Applying perfume to one’s mustache is of the discipline of the Prophets ‘Alayhim al-Salam, and honoring the scribes (the angels on one’s shoulders).”’

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ قَالَ لِي حَبِيبِي جَبْرَئِيلُ ع تَطَيَّبْ يَوْماً وَ يَوْماً لَا وَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ وَ لَا تَتْرُكْ لَهُ‌[2].

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘My friend Jibril has told me to apply perfume one day and not on the next day. On Friday it is necessary and it must not be ignored.’”

قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص قَدْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَدَعَ الطِّيبَ وَ أَشْيَاءَ ذَكَرَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص لَا تَدَعِ الطِّيبَ فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْتَنْشِقُ رِيحَ الطِّيبِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ فَلَا تَدَعِ الطِّيبَ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, “Uthman ibn Maz‘un once said to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, “I had decided to give up certain things, of which one is perfumes and other things.” The Messenger of Allah said, ‘You must not give u

الطِّيبُ فِي الشَّارِبِ مِنْ أَخْلَاقِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ع وَ كَرَامَةٌ لِلْكَاتِبَيْنِ.

‘Applying perfume is of moral discipline of the Prophets and honoring the scribes (the two angels on one’s shoulders).”’

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ أَتَانِي جَبْرَئِيلُ وَ قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلَامَ وَ يَنْهَى عَنْ تَزْوِيقِ الْبُيُوتِ قَالَ أَبُو بَصِيرٍ فَقُلْتُ مَا تَزْوِيقُ الْبُيُوتِ فَقَالَ تَصَاوِيرُ التَّمَاثِيلِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Once Jibril came to me and said, “O Muhammad, your Lord sends you greeting of peace and prohibits you to decorate the houses.’” Abu Basir has said, ‘I a

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِنَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ ع أَتَانِي فَقَالَ إِنَّا مَعَاشِرَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَ لَا تِمْثَالُ جَسَدٍ وَ لَا إِنَاءٌ يُبَالُ فِيهِ.

‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Once Jibril came to me and said, ‘We the community of angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog, statues or a pot in which people urinate.”””

إِنَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ ع قَالَ إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَ لَا كَلْبٌ يَعْنِي صُورَةَ الْإِنْسَانِ وَ لَا بَيْتاً فِيهِ تَمَاثِيلُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Jibril has said, ‘We do not enter a house in which there are pictures, or a dog, that is, pictures of human beings or a house in which statues exist.’”

قَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ صُورَةُ إِنْسَانٍ وَ لَا بَيْتاً يُبَالُ فِيهِ وَ لَا بَيْتاً فِيهِ كَلْبٌ.

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that Jibril (a.s.), once said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we do not enter a house in which picture of human beings exists or a house in which people urinate or a house in which a dog exists.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ قَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ع إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ تِمْثَالٌ لَا يُوطَأُ. الْحَدِيثُ مُخْتَصَرٌ.

“Amir al-Mu’minin, has said, that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said that Jibril (a.s.), has said, ‘We do not enter a house in which a picture on which feet are not set exists . . . Hadith in brief.’”

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَ‌ وَكَّلَ مَلَكاً بِالْبِنَاءِ يَقُولُ لِمَنْ رَفَعَ سَقْفاً فَوْقَ ثَمَانِيَةِ أَذْرُعٍ أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ يَا فَاسِقُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has appointed an angel on buildings who says to those who raise a roof higher than eight yards (arms length), “Where do you want to go, O sinful person?’””

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِذَا رَكِبَ الرَّجُلُ الدَّابَّةَ فَسَمَّى رَدِفَهُ مَلَكٌ يَحْفَظُهُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ وَ إِذَا رَكِبَ وَ لَمْ يُسَمِّ رَدِفَهُ شَيْطَانٌ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ تَغَنَّ فَإِنْ قَالَ لَهُ لَا أُحْسِنُ قَالَ لَهُ تَمَنَّ فَلَا يَزَالُ يَتَمَنَّى حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ وَ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ إِذَا رَكِبَ الدَّابَّةَ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدانا لِهذا

‘If one rides his stumper and mentions the name of Allah, an angel sits behind him to protect him until he disembarks; but if one rides his stumper without mentioning the name of Allah, a Satan sits behind him and says to him to sing. سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ مَا مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ يَكُونُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ عَنْزٌ حَلُوبٌ إِلَّا قُدِّسَ أَهْلُ‌ ذَلِكَ الْمَنْزِلِ وَ بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِنْ كَانَتَا اثْنَتَيْنِ قُدِّسُوا وَ بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَالَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا وَ كَيْفَ يُقَدَّسُونَ قَالَ يَقِفُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلَكٌ فِي كُلِّ صَبَاحٍ فَيَقُولُ لَهُمْ قُدِّسْتُمْ وَ بُورِكَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ طِبْتُمْ و

“I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), saying, ‘If a family keeps a milking goat, reverence and blessing is sent on them. If they are two, the family is revered and blessed twice a day.’ Certain persons of our people then said, ‘How are they revered?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘An angels stands on them every morning and says,

مَا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ تَرُوحُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثَلَاثُونَ شَاةً إِلَّا لَمْ تَزَلِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تَحْرُسُهُمْ حَتَّى يُصْبِحُوا.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If any family keeps thirty sheep in the evening in their house, angels continue to protect them until the morning.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ لَمْ يُحْسِنْ وَصِيَّتَهُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ كَانَ نَقْصاً فِي مُرُوءَتِهِ وَ عَقْلِهِ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ كَيْفَ يُوصِي الْمَيِّتُ قَالَ إِذَا حَضَرَتْهُ وَفَاتُهُ وَ اجْتَمَعَ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ‌ اللَّهُمَّ فاطِرَ السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ عالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَ الشَّهادَةِ الرَّحْمَنَ الرَّحِيمَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْهَدُ إِلَيْكَ فِي دَارِ الدُّنْيَا أَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘A person who does not make a proper will at the time of his death suffers from lack of kindness and proper understanding.’ It was then asked, ‘O messenger of Allah, what kind of will should a dying person make?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘Whe

أَنَّ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ع بَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ بِوَصِيَّةِ أَبِيهِ وَ بِصَدَقَتِهِ مَعَ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ مُصَادِفٍ‌ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* هَذَا مَا عَهِدَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ هُوَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ‌ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُه

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ قَسَمَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ص الْفَيْ‌ءَ فَأَصَابَ عَلِيّاً ع أَرْضاً فَاحْتَفَرَ فِيهَا عَيْناً فَخَرَجَ مَاءٌ يَنْبُعُ فِي السَّمَاءِ كَهَيْئَةِ عُنُقِ الْبَعِيرِ فَسَمَّاهَا يَنْبُعَ فَجَاءَ الْبَشِيرُ يُبَشِّرُ فَقَالَ ع بَشِّرِ الْوَارِثَ‌ هِيَ صَدَقَةٌ بَتَّةً بَتْلًا فِي حَجِيجِ بَيْتِ اللَّهِ وَ عَابِرِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَا تُبَاعُ وَ لَا تُوهَبُ وَ لَا تُورَثُ فَمَنْ بَاعَ
