Marriage

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ نَكَحَ بَهِيمَةً.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Cursed is one who engages in sexual intercourse with animals.’”

إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَاباً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ رَجُلٌ أَقَرَّ نُطْفَتَهُ فِي رَحِمٍ يَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘On the Day of Judgment of the people the one who suffers the most intense suffering is one who places his seed in the womb of one who with whom going to bed is unlawful.’”

قَالَ أَبُو إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع‌ اتَّقِ الزِّنَا فَإِنَّهُ يَمْحَقُ الرِّزْقَ وَ يُبْطِلُ الدِّينَ.

“Abu Ibrahim (a.s.), has said, ‘Stay away from fornication, it destroys one’s sustenance and invalidates one’s religion.’”

لِلزَّانِي سِتُّ خِصَالٍ ثَلَاثٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَ ثَلَاثٌ فِي الْآخِرَةِ أَمَّا الَّتِي فِي الدُّنْيَا فَيَذْهَبُ بِنُورِ الْوَجْهِ وَ يُورِثُ الْفَقْرَ وَ يُعَجِّلُ الْفَنَاءَ وَ أَمَّا الَّتِي فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَسَخَطُ الرَّبِّ وَ سُوءُ الْحِسَابِ وَ الْخُلُودُ فِي النَّارِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has narrated from his father who has said that one who commits fornication faces six troubling issues, of which three are in this world and three in the next life. In this world it takes away light and beauty from his face, brings poverty and quicker death. In the next life, it is the anger of A

وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ ع قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِذَا كَثُرَ الزِّنَا مِنْ بَعْدِي كَثُرَ مَوْتُ الْفَجْأَةِ.

When people after me will commit fornication in increasing numbers the number of deaths suddenly will also increase.’””

كُنْتُ‌ عِنْدَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ إِنِّي مُبْتَلًى بِالنِّسَاءِ فَأَزْنِي يَوْماً وَ أَصُومُ يَوْماً فَيَكُونُ ذَا كَفَّارَةً لِذَا فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ع إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ شَيْ‌ءٌ أَحَبَّ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْ أَنْ يُطَاعَ وَ لَا يُعْصَى فَلَا تَزْنِ وَ لَا تَصُمْ فَاجْتَذَبَهُ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع إِلَيْهِ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ يَا

“Once I was with Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.), when a man came and said, ‘O abu Muhammad, I am addicted to women. One day I commit fornication and the other day I fast; if this can become expiation for the sin.’ Ali ibn al-Husayn (a.s.), said, ‘There is not anything more beloved to Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, than

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ ع إِنِّي مُبْتَلًى بِالنَّظَرِ إِلَى الْمَرْأَةِ الْجَمِيلَةِ فَيُعْجِبُنِي النَّظَرُ إِلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لِي يَا عَلِيُّ لَا بَأْسَ إِذَا عَرَفَ اللَّهُ مِنْ نِيَّتِكَ الصِّدْقَ وَ إِيَّاكَ وَ الزِّنَا فَإِنَّهُ يَمْحَقُ الْبَرَكَةَ وَ يُهْلِكُ الدِّينَ.

“I once said to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), ‘I am addicted to looking at beautiful women and I like looking at them. He (the Imam) said, ‘O Ali, it is not unlawful if Allah finds that your intention is truthful, but you must remain on your guard against fornication because it destroys bounties and invalidates religion.’”

اجْتَمَعَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ إِلَى عِيسَى ع فَقَالُوا لَهُ يَا مُعَلِّمَ الْخَيْرِ أَرْشِدْنَا فَقَالَ لَهُمْ إِنَّ مُوسَى كَلِيمَ اللَّهِ ع أَمَرَكُمْ أَنْ لَا تَحْلِفُوا بِاللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى كَاذِبِينَ وَ أَنَا آمُرُكُمْ أَنْ لَا تَحْلِفُوا بِاللَّهِ كَاذِبِينَ وَ لَا صَادِقِينَ قَالُوا يَا رُوحَ اللَّهِ زِدْنَا فَقَالَ إِنَّ مُوسَى نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ع أَمَرَكُمْ أَنْ لَا تَزْنُوا وَ أَنَا آمُرُكُمْ أَنْ لَا

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Once the disciples of Jesus gathered around him and said, “O teacher of goodness teach us guidance.” Jesus said to them, “Moses has commanded you not to falsely swear by Allah and I command you not to swear even in a truthful manner.” They said, “O Spirit of Allah, please give us more

قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ لِابْنِهِ يَا بُنَيَّ لَا تَزْنِ فَإِنَّ الطَّائِرَ لَوْ زَنَى لَتَنَاثَرَ رِيشُهُ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that Ya’qub said to his son, ‘O son, do not commit fornication; even if a bird commits fornication it loses its feathers.’”

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ص‌ فِي الزِّنَا خَمْسُ خِصَالٍ يَذْهَبُ بِمَاءِ الْوَجْهِ وَ يُورِثُ الْفَقْرَ وَ يَنْقُصُ الْعُمُرَ وَ يُسْخِطُ الرَّحْمَنَ وَ يُخَلِّدُ فِي النَّارِ نَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ.

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz ibn ‘Abd Allah from al-Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said

ثَلَاثَةٌ لا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ اللَّهُ‌ ... وَ لا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَ لَهُمْ عَذابٌ أَلِيمٌ‌ مِنْهُمُ الْمَرْأَةُ تُوطِئُ فِرَاشَ زَوْجِهَا.

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah, does not speak to three kinds of people and they will suffer a painful suffering: One kind of such people is a woman who allows someone other than her husband to go to bed with her.’”

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ أَ لَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِكِبْرِ الزِّنَا قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ هِيَ امْرَأَةٌ تُوطِئُ فِرَاشَ زَوْجِهَا فَتَأْتِي بِوَلَدٍ مِنْ غَيْرِهِ فَتُلْزِمُهُ زَوْجَهَا فَتِلْكَ الَّتِي لَا يُكَلِّمُهَا اللَّهُ وَ لَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ لَا يُزَكِّيهَا وَ لَهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin once said, ‘Can I tell you about how great the sin of fornication is?’ They replied, ‘Yes, please tell us about it.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is a woman who allows someone other than her husband to go to bed with her; then gives birth thereby to a child and makes h

اشْتَدَّ غَضَبُ اللَّهِ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ أَدْخَلَتْ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ فَأَكَلَ خَيْرَاتِهِمْ‌[1] وَ نَظَرَ إِلَى عَوْرَاتِهِمْ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Allah’s anger intensifies upon a woman who brings in her family a stranger who consumes their bounties and looks at their privacies.’”

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ حُرْمَةُ الدُّبُرِ أَعْظَمُ مِنْ حُرْمَةِ الْفَرْجِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَهْلَكَ أُمَّةً بِحُرْمَةِ الدُّبُرِ وَ لَمْ يُهْلِكْ أَحَداً بِحُرْمَةِ الْفَرْجِ.

The unlawfulness of homosexual intercourse is more serious than unlawful heterosexual intercourse, indeed Allah destroyed a nation because of the unlawfulness of homosexual intercourse, but He has not destroyed (a nation) because of unlawful heterosexual intercourse.”’

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ جَامَعَ غُلَاماً جَاءَ جُنُباً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ لَا يُنَقِّيهِ مَاءُ الدُّنْيَا وَ غَضِبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ لَعَنَهُ وَ أَعَدَّ لَهُ‌ جَهَنَّمَ وَ ساءَتْ مَصِيراً ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الذَّكَرَ لَيَرْكَبُ الذَّكَرَ فَيَهْتَزُّ الْعَرْشُ لِذَلِكَ وَ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُؤْتَى فِي حَقَبِهِ فَيَحْبِسُهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى جِسْرِ جَهَنَّمَ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنْ حِسَابِ الْخَلَائِقِ ثُمَّ يُؤْمَرُ

Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘One who engages in sexual intercourse with a boy, on the Day of Judgment will rise with the filth of such act and water of the world does not clean him,

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ اللِّوَاطُ مَا دُونَ الدُّبُرِ وَ الدُّبُرُ هُوَ الْكُفْرُ[1].

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Homosexuality is other than anal sex, anal sex is disbelief.’”

إِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ أَتَاهُمْ فِي صُورَةٍ حَسَنَةٍ فِيهِ تَأْنِيثٌ عَلَيْهِ ثِيَابٌ حَسَنَةٌ فَجَاءَ إِلَى شَبَابٍ مِنْهُمْ فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَقَعُوا بِهِ فَلَوْ طَلَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَقَعَ بِهِمْ لَأَبَوْا عَلَيْهِ وَ لَكِنْ طَلَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَقَعُوا بِهِ فَلَمَّا وَقَعُوا بِهِ الْتَذُّوهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ عَنْهُمْ وَ تَرَكَهُمْ فَأَحَالَ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ.

‘In the case of the people of Lot mentioned in the Quran: “You engage in such indecent acts in which no one of the people of the world before had ever engaged,”’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Iblis (Satan) came to them in the form of a good looking person with femininity, with good looking clothes and he came to their young men

كَانَ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ قَوْمٍ خَلَقَهُمُ اللَّهُ فَطَلَبَهُمْ إِبْلِيسُ الطَّلَبَ الشَّدِيدَ وَ كَانَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِمْ وَ خِيَرَتِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذَا خَرَجُوا إِلَى الْعَمَلِ خَرَجُوا بِأَجْمَعِهِمْ وَ تَبْقَى النِّسَاءُ خَلْفَهُمْ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ إِبْلِيسُ يَعْتَادُهُمْ‌[2] فَكَانُوا إِذَا رَجَعُوا خَرَّبَ إِبْلِيسُ مَا يَعْمَلُونَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ تَعَالَوْا نَرْصُدْ هَذَا الَّذِي يُخَرِّبُ مَتَا

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘People of Lot were of the excellent people Allah had created. Iblis persuaded them very intensely. Due to their excellent manners, they would go to work together in groups and leave women behind at home. Iblis (Satan) would come to them every day and in their absence Iblis (Satan) would d

إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بَعَثَ أَرْبَعَةَ أَمْلَاكٍ فِي إِهْلَاكِ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ- جَبْرَئِيلَ وَ مِيكَائِيلَ وَ إِسْرَافِيلَ وَ كَرُوبِيلَ فَمَرُّوا بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ ع وَ هُمْ مُعْتَمُّونَ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُمْ وَ رَأَى هَيْئَةً حَسَنَةً فَقَالَ لَا يَخْدُمُ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا أَنَا بِنَفْسِي وَ كَانَ صَاحِبَ ضِيَافَةٍ فَشَوَى لَهُمْ عِجْلًا سَمِيناً حَتَّى أَنْضَجَهُ ثُمَّ قَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ فَلَ

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ibn Faddal from Dawud ibn Farqad from Abu Yazid al- Hammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent four angels for the destruction of the people of Lot: Jibril, Michael, I

عَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمُ التَّزْوِيجَ.

“About the words of Lot, ‘These are my daughters and they are cleaner and pure,’ (11:78) abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘He offered them for marriage.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ إِيَّاكُمْ وَ أَوْلَادَ الْأَغْنِيَاءِ وَ الْمُلُوكِ الْمُرْدَ فَإِنَّ فِتْنَتَهُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْعَذَارَى فِي خُدُورِهِنَّ.

‘You must remain on your guard against the children of the affluent people and the tyrant kings because their mischief is more intense than the mischief of the virgins in their private chambers.’”

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَقُرِئَ عِنْدَهُ آيَاتٌ مِنْ هُودٍ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ‌ وَ أَمْطَرْنا عَلَيْها حِجارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ مَنْضُودٍ[3] مُسَوَّمَةً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ وَ ما هِيَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ مَنْ مَاتَ مُصِرّاً عَلَى اللِّوَاطِ لَمْ يَمُتْ حَتَّى يَرْمِيَهُ اللَّهُ بِحَجَرٍ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْحِجَارَةِ تَكُونُ فِيهِ مَنِيَّتُهُ وَ لَا يَرَاهُ أَحَدٌ.

“Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), when certain verses of Chapter 11 of the Quran were read, ‘. . . We rained down upon them piles of stones which were marked before your Lord and it is not far away from the unjust,’ (11:78) he (the Imam) said, ‘Whoever dies insisting on engaging in anal sexual intercourse will no

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ قَبَّلَ غُلَاماً مِنْ شَهْوَةٍ أَلْجَمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِلِجَامٍ مِنْ نَارٍ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘One who kisses a boy with lust, Allah on the Day of Judgment will harness him with a harness of fire.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ مَنْ أَمْكَنَ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ طَائِعاً يُلْعَبُ بِهِ أَلْقَى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ شَهْوَةَ النِّسَاءِ.

"The Messenger of Allah (sw) said, ‘One who allows sexual intercourse in his anus voluntarily and playfully, Allah throws lust of woman on him.‘"

ذَكَرْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْمَنْكُوحَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ فَقَالَ لَيْسَ يُبْلِي اللَّهُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَاءِ أَحَداً وَ لَهُ فِيهِ حَاجَةٌ إِنَّ فِي أَدْبَارِهِمْ أَرْحَاماً مَنْكُوسَةً وَ حَيَاءُ أَدْبَارِهِمْ كَحَيَاءِ الْمَرْأَةِ قَدْ شَرِكَ فِيهِمُ ابْنٌ لِإِبْلِيسَ يُقَالُ لَهُ زَوَالٌ فَمَنْ شَرِكَ فِيهِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ كَانَ مَنْكُوحاً وَ مَنْ شَرِكَ فِيهِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْمَوَارِدِ وَ الْعَ

“Once I mentioned before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), one who allows sexual intercourse in his anus. He (the Imam) said, ‘If Allah finds someone of any use at all He does not allow him to become involved in allowing sexual intercourse in his anus. In behind such people there is something like a womb of women upside down. The

قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ع‌ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عِبَاداً لَهُمْ فِي أَصْلَابِهِمْ أَرْحَامٌ كَأَرْحَامِ النِّسَاءِ قَالَ فَسُئِلَ فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يَحْمِلُونَ فَقَالَ إِنَّهَا مَنْكُوسَةٌ وَ لَهُمْ فِي أَدْبَارِهِمْ غُدَّةٌ كَغُدَّةِ الْجَمَلِ أَوِ الْبَعِيرِ فَإِذَا هَاجَتْ هَاجُوا وَ إِذَا سَكَنَتْ سَكَنُوا.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Of Allah’s creatures there are those who have wombs in their backs like the wombs of women.’ He (the Imam) said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin was asked, ‘Why do not they then become pregnant?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Because it is upside down. لَعَنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص الْمُتَشَبِّهِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ بِالنِّسَاءِ وَ الْمُتَشَبِّهَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ بِالرِّجَالِ قَالَ وَ هُمُ الْمُخَنَّثُونَ وَ اللَّاتِي يَنْكِحْنَ بَعْضُهُنَّ بَعْضاً.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has condemned transvestites (those of men who pretend to be like women and women who pretend to be like men).’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They are hermaphrodites who eng

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي ابْتُلِيتُ بِبَلَاءٍ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّهُ يُؤْتَى فِي دُبُرِهِ فَقَالَ مَا أَبْلَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَاءِ أَحَداً لَهُ فِيهِ حَاجَةٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبِي قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي لَا يَقْعُدُ عَلَى إِسْتَبْرَقِهَا وَ حَرِيرِهَا مَنْ يُؤْتَى فِي دُبُرِهِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Once a man came to my father and said, ‘O child of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, I am in an unfortunate condition; please pray for me to Allah.’ He was told that he allows sexual intercourse in hi

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنِّي أُحِبُّ الصِّبْيَانَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَتَصْنَعُ مَا ذَا قَالَ أَحْمِلُهُمْ عَلَى ظَهْرِي فَوَضَعَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَدَهُ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ وَ وَلَّى وَجْهَهُ عَنْهُ فَبَكَى الرَّجُلُ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع كَأَنَّهُ رَحِمَهُ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَتَيْتَ بَلَدَكَ فَاشْتَرِ جَزُوراً سَمِينا

“Once, when, I was with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), a man also was there. He said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I love children.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Why is it?’ He said, ‘I carry them on my back.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), placed his hand on his forehead and turned his face away from him. شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع الْأُبْنَةَ فَمَسَحَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ فَسَقَطَتْ مِنْهُ دُودَةٌ حَمْرَاءُ فَبَرَأَ.

“A man once complained before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), against an anal problem and abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), rubbed his back. A red worm fell off of him and he was cured.’”

أَقْسَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ أَنْ لَا يَقْعُدَ عَلَى نَمَارِقِ الْجَنَّةِ مَنْ يُؤْتَى فِي دُبُرِهِ فَقُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فُلَانٌ عَاقِلٌ لَبِيبٌ يَدْعُو النَّاسَ‌ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ قَدِ ابْتَلَاهُ اللَّهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ فَيَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْجَامِعِ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَيَفْعَلُهُ عَلَى بَابِ دَارِهِ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَأَيْنَ يَفْعَلُهُ قُلْتُ إِذَا خَلَا قَالَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَبْتَلِهِ‌[1

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said, ‘I swear upon myself that one who allows sexual intercourse in his anus will not be allowed to sit on the fine furnishings of paradise.’ I then said to abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), that so and so is a man of reason and deep understanding, calls people to himself and Allah has made him to suffer

مَا كَانَ فِي شِيعَتِنَا فَلَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِمْ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْيَاءَ مَنْ يَسْأَلُ فِي كَفِّهِ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِمْ أَزْرَقُ أَخْضَرُ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِمْ مَنْ يُؤْتَى فِي دُبُرِهِ.

Ahmad has narrated from Ali ibn Asbat from certain persons of our people who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Things may exist in our Shi‘ah, but three things will not be in them, one who stretches his hand for begging, there is no blue or green among them and one who allows sexual intercours

قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع هَؤُلَاءِ الْمُخَنَّثُونَ مُبْتَلَوْنَ بِهَذَا الْبَلَاءِ فَيَكُونُ الْمُؤْمِنُ مُبْتَلًى وَ النَّاسُ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ لَا يُبْتَلَى بِهِ أَحَدٌ لِلَّهِ فِيهِ حَاجَةٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَدْ يَكُونُ مُبْتَلًى بِهِ فَلَا تُكَلِّمُوهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَجِدُونَ لِكَلَامِكُمْ رَاحَةً قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَيْسُوا يَصْبِرُونَ قَالَ هُمْ يَصْبِرُونَ وَ لَكِنْ يَطْلُبُونَ بِذَلِكَ ا

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the hermaphrodites who suffer because of this misfortune (sexual intercourse in their anus). Will a believing person suffer from this sickness and people think Allah does not allow one whom He finds of any benefit at all to suffer from this sickness. H

سَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ- كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَ أَصْحابُ الرَّسِ‌[2] فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ هَكَذَا فَمَسَحَ إِحْدَاهُمَا بِالْأُخْرَى فَقَالَ هُنَّ اللَّوَاتِي بِاللَّوَاتِي يَعْنِي النِّسَاءَ بِالنِّسَاءِ.

“Once a man asked ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), about this verse of the holy Quran, ’Before them people of Noah and the dwellers of al-Rass rejected (the truth). . . (50: 12) He (the Imam) made a gesture with his hand and rubbed one hand against the other saying, ‘They were women with women (engaged in lesbianism).”’

سَأَلَتْنِي امْرَأَةٌ أَنْ أَسْتَأْذِنَ لَهَا عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع فَأَذِنَ لَهَا فَدَخَلَتْ وَ مَعَهَا مَوْلَاةٌ لَهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- زَيْتُونَةٍ لا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَ لا غَرْبِيَّة[1] مَا عَنَى بِهَذَا فَقَالَ أَيَّتُهَا الْمَرْأَةُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَضْرِبِ الْأَمْثَالَ لِلشَّجَرِ إِنَّمَا ضَرَبَ الْأَمْثَالَ لِبَنِي آدَمَ سَلِي عَمَّا تُرِيدِينَ فَقَالَتْ أ

“A woman asked me to ask abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), for permission to visit him (the Imam). Permission was given and she came with her slave-girl and asked, ‘O abu ‘Abd Allah, what is the meaning of the word of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, “. . . the olive tree which is not eastern or western.’” (24:35) He (the Ima

رَأَيْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع رَجُلًا فَقَالَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ مَا تَقُولُ فِي اللَّوَاتِي مَعَ اللَّوَاتِي فَقَالَ لَهُ لَا أُخْبِرُكَ حَتَّى تَحْلِفَ لَتُخْبِرَنَّ بِمَا أُحَدِّثُكَ بِهِ النِّسَاءَ قَالَ فَحَلَفَ لَهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ هُمَا فِي النَّارِ وَ عَلَيْهِمَا سَبْعُونَ حُلَّةً مِنْ نَارٍ فَوْقَ تِلْكَ الْحُلَلِ جِلْدٌ جَافٌّ غَلِيظٌ مِنْ نَارٍ عَلَيْهِمَا نِطَاقَانِ مِنْ نَارٍ وَ تَاجَانِ مِنْ ن

“I saw a man with abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), who said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, what do you say about women with women (lesbianism)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘I will not tell you anything about it until you take an oath to narrate, what I tell you, to women.’ He (the narrator) has said that h

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَوْ أَبَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ ع- عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ تُسَاحِقُ الْمَرْأَةَ وَ كَانَ مُتَّكِئاً فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ مَلْعُونَةٌ الرَّاكِبَةُ وَ الْمَرْكُوبَةُ وَ مَلْعُونَةٌ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ مِنْ أَثْوَابِهَا الرَّاكِبَةُ وَ الْمَرْكُوبَةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى وَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ وَ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ يَلْعَنُونَهُمَا وَ أَنَا وَ مَنْ بَقِيَ فِي أَصْلَابِ الرِّجَالِ وَ أَرْحَامِ النِّسَ

It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from Ali ibn al-Qasim from Ja’far ibn Muhammad from al- Husayn ibn Ziyad from Ya’qub ibn Ja’far who has said the following: “Once, a man asked abu ‘Abd Allah, or abu Ibrahim, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about women who practice women homosexuality (lesbi

لَمَّا أَقَامَ الْعَالِمُ الْجِدَارَ أَوْحَى اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى إِلَى مُوسَى ع أَنِّي مُجَازِي الْأَبْنَاءِ بِسَعْيِ الْآبَاءِ إِنْ خَيْراً فَخَيْرٌ وَ إِنْ شَرّاً فَشَرٌّ لَا تَزْنُوا فَتَزْنِيَ نِسَاؤُكُمْ وَ مَنْ وَطِئَ فِرَاشَ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ وُطِئَ فِرَاشُهُ كَمَا تَدِينُ تُدَانُ‌[1].

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from Sharif ibn Sabiq or a man from Sharif from al-Fadl ibn abu Qurrah who has said the following: “When the scholar built the wall Allah, most Blessed, most High, sent revelation to Moses that said, ‘I recompense sons for the hard works of

أَ مَا يَخْشَى الَّذِينَ يَنْظُرُونَ فِي أَدْبَارِ النِّسَاءِ أَنْ يُبْتَلَوْا بِذَلِكَ فِي نِسَائِهِمْ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Do you not fear, when looking at women’s behind, for your women being looked in the same way.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ مَا أَقْبَحَ بِالرَّجُلِ مِنْ أَنْ يُرَى بِالْمَكَانِ الْمُعْوِرِ[2] فَيُدْخَلَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْنَا وَ عَلَى صَالِحِي أَصْحَابِنَا يَا مُفَضَّلُ أَ تَدْرِي لِمَ قِيلَ مَنْ يَزْنِ يَوْماً يُزْنَ بِهِ‌[3] قُلْتُ لَا جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ بَغِيٌّ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَ كَانَ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ رَجُلٌ يُكْثِرُ الِاخْتِلَافَ إِلَيْهَا فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي آخِرِ مَا أَتَاهَ

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘How ugly of a man it is being seen in an imperfect (sinful) place, then impose it on us or the righteous ones of our people. O Mufaddal, do you know why it is said, ‘If one commits fornication one day it will be committed against him.’ I replied, ‘No, I pray to Allah to keep my soul i

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ تَزَوَّجُوا إِلَى آلِ فُلَانٍ فَإِنَّهُمْ عَفُّوا فَعَفَّتْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ وَ لَا تَزَوَّجُوا إِلَى آلِ فُلَانٍ فَإِنَّهُمْ بَغَوْا فَبَغَتْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ وَ قَالَ مَكْتُوبٌ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ أَنَا اللَّهُ قَاتِلُ الْقَاتِلِينَ وَ مُفْقِرُ الزَّانِينَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا تَزْنُوا فَتَزْنِيَ نِسَاؤُكُمْ كَمَا تَدِينُ تُدَانُ.

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from abu al-‘Abbas al-Kufiy and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Amr ibn ‘ Uthman from ‘Abd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust from ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and hi

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ بَرُّوا آبَاءَكُمْ يَبَرَّكُمْ أَبْنَاؤُكُمْ وَ عِفُّوا عَنْ نِسَاءِ النَّاسِ تَعِفَّ نِسَاؤُكُمْ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘Be kind to your parents, your children will be kind to you, maintain chastity toward people’s women; your women will maintain chastity.’”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص‌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْعَفَافِ وَ تَرْكِ الْفُجُورِ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must maintain chastity and you must stay away from sinful deeds.”’

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع يَقُولُ‌ مَا مِنْ عِبَادَةٍ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ عِفَّةِ بَطْنٍ وَ فَرْجٍ.

“I once heard abu Ja‘far (a.s.), saying, ‘No worship is better than maintaining chastity in matters of one’s stomach and genitals organs.’”

لَيْسَ شَيْ‌ءٌ تَحْضُرُهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ إِلَّا الرِّهَانَ وَ مُلَاعَبَةَ الرَّجُلِ أَهْلَهُ.

“Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘No other thing is attended by the angel as horse racing is and a man’s playing with his wife.’”

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ سَائِلَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص وَالِدَاتٌ وَالِهَاتٌ رَحِيمَاتٌ بِأَوْلَادِهِنَّ لَوْ لَا مَا يَأْتِينَ إِلَى أَزْوَاجِهِنَّ لَقِيلَ لَهُنَّ ادْخُلْنَ الْجَنَّةَ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ.

“Once a woman came to the Messenger of Allah (saww) to ask a question and the Messenger of Allah said, ‘Child bearing, compassionate and kind to their children, had they not brought anyone (in the bed of their husband), it would have been said to them, ‘Enter in paradise without any questions being asked.’”

إِذَا صَلَّتِ الْمَرْأَةُ خَمْساً وَ صَامَتْ شَهْراً وَ أَطَاعَتْ زَوْجَهَا وَ عَرَفَتْ حَقَّ عَلِيٍّ ع فَلْتَدْخُلْ مِنْ أَيِّ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ شَاءَتْ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If a woman performs Salat (prayer) five times a day, fasts a month, obeys her husband and recognizes the right of Ali (a.s.), she then can enter paradise from whichever door of the garden (paradise) she wants.’”

سَعِيدَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهَا وَ كَانَ مَعَ سَعِيدَةَ غَيْرُهَا فَقَالَتْ أَ رَضِيتُنَّ قَالَ فَتَزَوَّجَهَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع فَكَانَتْ عِنْدَهُ حَتَّى مَاتَ عَنْهَا فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ جَوَارِيَهُ جَعَلْنَ يَأْخُذْنَ بِأَرْدَانِهِ وَ ثِيَابِهِ‌[2] وَ هُوَ سَاكِتٌ يَضْحَكُ وَ لَا يَقُولُ لَهُنَّ شَيْئاً فَذُكِرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَا شَيْ‌ءٌ مِثْلَ الْحَرَائِرِ.

“Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), sent me to a woman of the Zubayr family to see her because he wanted to marry her. When I went to her she spoke to me softly and then said, ‘Bring the lamp closer to me.’ I took it close to her. Sa‘idah has said, ‘I looked at her - there was someone else with Sa‘idah also - and asked if she agree

سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ- أَوْ لامَسْتُمُ‌ النِّساءَ[3] فَقَالَ هُوَ الْجِمَاعُ وَ لَكِنَّ اللَّهَ سَتِيرٌ يُحِبُّ السَّتْرَ فَلَمْ يُسَمِّ كَمَا تُسَمُّونَ.

“This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . or that you touch women.’ (5:6) He (the Imam) said, ‘It means going to bed with woman but Allah covers and He loves covering private matters so He has not mentioned it by its name as you do.’”

أَوْصَتْ فَاطِمَةُ ع إِلَى عَلِيٍّ ع أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَ ابْنَةَ أُخْتِهَا مِنْ بَعْدِهَا فَفَعَلَ‌[4].

“Abu Ja‘far (a.s.), has said that Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, in her will had asked ’Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali (a.s.), to marry her sister’s daughter after her death and he followed her instruction.’”
