Supplication

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ‌ مَنْ قَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً صَرَفَ عَنْهُ سَبْعِينَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ أَيْسَرُ ذَلِكَ الْخَنْقُ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ وَ مَا الْخَنْقُ قَالَ لَا يَعْتَلُّ بِالْجُنُونِ فَيُخْنَقَ.

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever says, “As Allah wills, there are no means and no power without the help of Allah,” seventy times, seventy kinds of misfortunes will be diverted away from him, the least of which is al-Khanq .’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause,

مَنْ قَالَ فِي دُبُرِ صَلَاةِ الْفَرِيضَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَثْنِيَ رِجْلَيْهِ- أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ* ذُو الْجَلالِ وَ الْإِكْرامِ‌ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ ذُنُوبَهُ وَ لَوْ كَانَتْ مِثْلَ زَبَدِ الْبَحْرِ.

“Whoever after an obligatory prayer and before moving his legs to a second position says, ‘I plead before Allah for forgiveness, no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, the Living, the Guardian, the Possessor of Glory and Honor and to Him I return,’ three times Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will forgi

إِنَّ إِبْلِيسَ عَلَيْهِ لَعَائِنُ اللَّهِ يَبُثُّ جُنُودَ اللَّيْلِ مِنْ حَيْثُ تَغِيبُ الشَّمْسُ وَ تَطْلُعُ فَأَكْثِرُوا ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي هَاتَيْنِ السَّاعَتَيْنِ وَ تَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّ إِبْلِيسَ وَ جُنُودِهِ وَ عَوِّذُوا صِغَارَكُمْ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَتَيْنِ فَإِنَّهُمَا سَاعَتَا غَفْلَةٍ.

“Satan, may Allah’s condemnations be upon him, spreads the armies of the night at sunset and at sunrise. You must speak of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, very often in these two hours and seek protection from Allah against the evils of Satan and his army, protect your little ones in those two hours; they are

مَنْ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُكَ وَ أُشْهِدُ مَلَائِكَتَكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُكَ وَ رَسُولُكَ وَ أَنَّ فُلَانَ بْنَ فُلَانٍ إِمَامِي وَ وَلِيِّي وَ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ- رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ص وَ عَلِيّاً وَ الْحَسَنَ وَ الْحُسَيْنَ وَ فُلَاناً وَ فُلَاناً حَتَّى يَنْتَهِيَ إِلَيْهِ أَئِمَّتِي

تَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ- أَصْبَحْتُ بِاللَّهِ مُؤْمِناً عَلَى دِينِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ سُنَّتِهِ وَ دِينِ عَلِيٍّ وَ سُنَّتِهِ وَ دِينِ‌ الْأَوْصِيَاءِ وَ سُنَّتِهِمْ آمَنْتُ بِسِرِّهِمْ وَ عَلَانِيَتِهِمْ وَ شَاهِدِهِمْ وَ غَائِبِهِمْ وَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِمَّا اسْتَعَاذَ مِنْهُ- رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص وَ عَلِيٌّ ع وَ الْأَوْصِيَاءُ وَ أَرْغَبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ فِيمَا رَغِبُوا إِلَيْهِ وَ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّ

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Hajjal and Bakr ibn Muhammad from abu Ishaq al-Sha’Iri from Yazid ibn Kalthamah from abu ‘Abd Allah or abu Ja’far (a.s.) who has said the following: “In the morning say, ‘This morning I believe in Allah in the religion of Muhammad and his tradition, Sunnah

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ص كَانَ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ أَبْتَدِئُ يَوْمِي هَذَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ نِسْيَانِي وَ عَجَلَتِي‌[1] بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ فَإِذَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ الْعَبْدُ أَجْزَأَهُ مِمَّا نَسِيَ فِي يَوْمِهِ.

"Ali ibn al-Husayn (as) used to say when he woke up in the morning, 'I begin this day of mine, amidst my forgetfulness and haste, with the name of Allah and by His will.' So when a servant does this, Allah gives him rewards for what he forgets during his day."

مَنْ قَالَ هَذَا حِينَ يُمْسِي حُفَّ بِجَنَاحٍ مِنْ أَجْنِحَةِ- جَبْرَئِيلَ ع حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ الْعَلِيَّ الْأَعْلَى الْجَلِيلَ الْعَظِيمَ نَفْسِي وَ مَنْ يَعْنِينِي أَمْرُهُ أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ نَفْسِيَ الْمَرْهُوبَ الْمَخُوفَ الْمُتَضَعْضِعَ لِعَظَمَتِهِ كُلُّ شَيْ‌ءٍ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ.

“Whoever says in the evening, ‘I leave myself and all that is important to me, in trust of Allah, the Most High, the Most Glorious, the Most Great, from Whose greatness all things fear, worry and waver,’ three times, he will be wrapped up in a wing of the wings of Jibril, the Archangel, for protection until morning.’”

إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ قُلِ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِنْدَ إِقْبَالِ لَيْلِكَ وَ إِدْبَارِ نَهَارِكَ وَ حُضُورِ صَلَوَاتِكَ وَ أَصْوَاتِ دُعَائِكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ ادْعُ بِمَا أَحْبَبْتَ.

“In the evening say, ‘O Lord, I ask You in the approaching of Your night and retreating of Your day, in the presence of Your blessings, among the voices of prayer to You to grant al-Salat (favors) upon Muhammad and Ale (family of) Muhammad,’ then pray for whatever you wish.’”

مَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ يَأْتِي عَلَى ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا قَالَ لَهُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ أَنَا يَوْمٌ جَدِيدٌ وَ أَنَا عَلَيْكَ شَهِيدٌ فَقُلْ فِيَّ خَيْراً وَ اعْمَلْ فِيَّ خَيْراً أَشْهَدْ لَكَ بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَإِنَّكَ لَنْ تَرَانِي بَعْدَهَا أَبَداً قَالَ وَ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ ع إِذَا أَمْسَى يَقُولُ مَرْحَباً بِاللَّيْلِ الْجَدِيدِ وَ الْكَاتِبِ الشَّهِيدِ اكْتُبَا عَلَى اسْمِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ يَذْكُرُ اللّ

“Each coming day says to the sons of Adam, ‘O son of Adam, I am a new day and a witness over you. Say good in me and do good deeds; I will testify for or against you on the Day of Judgment. You will never see me thereafter.’ The Imam said that Ali (a.s.) in the evening would say, ‘Welcome to the new night, and witnessi

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا تَغَيَّرَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَاذْكُرِ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ إِنْ كُنْتَ مَعَ قَوْمٍ يَشْغَلُونَكَ- فَقُمْ وَ ادْعُ.

‘When the sun changes, speak of Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, and if there are people keeping you occupied, stand up and pray.’”

ثَلَاثٌ تَنَاسَخَهَا الْأَنْبِيَاءُ[1] مِنْ آدَمَ ع حَتَّى وَصَلْنَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص كَانَ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ يَقُولُ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ إِيمَاناً تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِي وَ يَقِيناً[2] حَتَّى أَعْلَمَ أَنَّهُ لَا يُصِيبُنِي إِلَّا مَا كَتَبْتَ لِي وَ رَضِّنِي بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِي. - وَ رَوَاهُ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا وَ زَادَ فِيهِ‌ حَتَّى لَا أُحِبَّ تَعْجِيلَ مَا أَخَّرْتَ وَ لَا تَأْخِيرَ مَا عَجَّلْتَ يَا

“There are three things that the prophets inherited from Adam until they reached the Messenger of Allah. In the morning he would say, ‘O Lord, I request You to grant me a belief that accompany with my heart, a certainty in the fact that nothing can affect me except what You have written, make me happy with the share th

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَصْبَحْنَا وَ الْمُلْكُ لَهُ وَ أَصْبَحْتُ عَبْدَكَ وَ ابْنَ عَبْدِكَ وَ ابْنَ أَمَتِكَ فِي قَبْضَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ رِزْقاً مِنْ حَيْثُ أَحْتَسِبُ وَ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا أَحْتَسِبُ وَ احْفَظْنِي مِنْ حَيْثُ أَحْتَفِظُ وَ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا أَحْتَفِظُ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي مِنْ فَضْلِكَ وَ لَا تَجْعَلْ لِي حَاجَةً إِلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَلْبِسْنِي الْعَافِيَةَ

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) would say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah Who has given us this morning and the kingdom belongs to Him. You have brought to this morning Your servant son of Your servant and son of Your female servant under Your control. O Lord, grant me sustenance through Your generosity, a sustenance from the sou

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي وَ هَذَا النَّهَارَ خَلْقَانِ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَبْتَلِنِي بِهِ وَ لَا تَبْتَلِهِ بِي اللَّهُمَّ وَ لَا تُرِهِ مِنِّي جُرْأَةً عَلَى مَعَاصِيكَ وَ لَا رُكُوباً لِمَحَارِمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ اصْرِفْ عَنِّيَ الْأَزْلَ وَ اللَّأْوَاءَ وَ الْبَلْوَى وَ سُوءَ الْقَضَاءِ وَ شَمَاتَةَ الْأَعْدَاءِ وَ مَنْظَرَ السَّوْءِ فِي نَفْسِي وَ مَالِي‌[1] قَالَ وَ مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَقُولُ

كَانَ أَبِي ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَ بِاللَّهِ وَ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَ عَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ص اللَّهُمَّ إِلَيْكَ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي وَ إِلَيْكَ فَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي وَ عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي حِفْظِ الْإِيمَانِ‌[2] مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيَّ وَ مِنْ خَلْفِي وَ عَنْ يَمِينِي وَ عَنْ شِمَالِي وَ مِنْ فَوْقِي وَ مِنْ تَحْتِي وَ مِنْ قِبَلِي

“My father (a.s.) in the morning would say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, with Allah, and to Allah, for the cause of Allah and on the religion of the Messenger of Allah, O Lord, to You I have submitted my soul, to You I have left my affairs, before You I have placed my trust, O Lord of the worlds. O Lord, protect me

مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ- اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ كَبِيراً وَ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ‌ بُكْرَةً وَ أَصِيلًا وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِينَ* كَثِيراً لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ إِلَّا ابْتَدَرَهُنَّ مَلَكٌ وَ جَعَلَهُنَّ فِي جَوْفِ‌[5] جَنَاحِهِ وَ صَعِدَ بِهِنَ‌ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَتَقُولُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ مَا مَعَكَ فَيَقُول

“Whoever says in the morning before sunrise, ‘Allah is greater than can be described, Allah is greater than can be described, the Most Great. I glorify Allah in the morning and in the evening, all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds, a great deal of praise. He has no partners. O Lord, grant al-Salat (favors) up

إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ فَقُلْ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقْتَ وَ ذَرَأْتَ وَ بَرَأْتَ فِي بِلَادِكَ وَ عِبَادِكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِجَلَالِكَ وَ جَمَالِكَ وَ حِلْمِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ كَذَا وَ كَذَا.

“In the morning say, ‘O Lord, I seek protection from the evil of what You have created, spread and released in Your land and in Your servants. O Lord, I plead before You through Your glory, beauty, forbearance and honor for such and such favors . . . and mention your wishes.’”

إِذَا أَصْبَحَ- سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ ثَلَاثاً- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ وَ مِنْ تَحْوِيلِ عَافِيَتِكَ وَ مِنْ فَجْأَةِ نَقِمَتِكَ وَ مِنْ دَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ وَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا سَبَقَ فِي اللَّيْلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِعِزَّةِ مُلْكِكَ وَ شِدَّةِ قُوَّتِكَ وَ بِعَظِيمِ سُلْطَانِكَ وَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَى خَلْقِكَ ثُمَّ سَلْ حَاجَتَكَ.

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ وَ اذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ فِي نَفْسِكَ‌ تَضَرُّعاً وَ خِيفَةً وَ دُونَ الْجَهْرِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ‌ عِنْدَ الْمَسَاءِ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي‌ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* قَالَ قُلْتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ قَالَ إِنَّ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرَ وَ لَكِنْ قُلْ كَمَا أَقُولُ لَكَ عَشْرَ م

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying in the evening, ‘Remember (speak of) your Lord deep within yourselves, humbly and privately, instead of shouting out loud, (in prayer) in the mornings and evenings and do not be of the heedless ones,’ (7:205) and ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone. يَقُولُ بَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ‌[1]- الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الصَّبَاحِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ فَالِقِ الْإِصْبَاحِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي بَابَ الْأَمْرِ الَّذِي فِيهِ الْيُسْرُ وَ الْعَافِيَةُ اللَّهُمَّ هَيِّئْ لِي سَبِيلَهُ وَ بَصِّرْنِي مَخْرَجَهُ‌[2] اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ قَضَيْتَ لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ عَلَيَّ مَقْدُرَةً بِالشَّرِّ فَخُذْهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ وَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَ عَنْ

“One in the morning should say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the morning, all praise belongs to Allah, who opens the morning, [ three times]. O Lord, open for me the door of the matter in which there is felicitation and good health, O Lord, prepare its way for me and show me the way out of it. O Lord, if Y

مَنْ قَالَ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ فِي ذِمَّتِكَ وَ جِوَارِكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ دِينِي وَ نَفْسِي وَ دُنْيَايَ وَ آخِرَتِي وَ أَهْلِي وَ مَالِي وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ يَا عَظِيمُ مِنْ شَرِّ خَلْقِكَ جَمِيعاً وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا يُبْلِسُ بِهِ إِبْلِيسُ وَ جُنُودُهُ‌[3] إِذَا قَالَ هَذَا الْكَلَامَ لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ يَوْمَهُ ذَلِكَ شَيْ‌ءٌ وَ إِذَا أَمْسَى فَقَالَهُ لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ ت

“Anyone who says in the morning, ‘O Lord, this morning I am under Your protection and bailsmanship, O Lord, I leave my religion, myself, my world, my hereafter, my family, and my belongings in Your trust and I seek protection with You, O Great, against the evil of all of Your creatures. I seek protection with You again

إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الْمَغْرِبَ وَ الْغَدَاةَ فَقُلْ‌ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَالَهَا لَمْ يُصِبْهُ جُذَامٌ وَ لَا بَرَصٌ وَ لَا جُنُونٌ وَ لَا سَبْعُونَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ قَالَ وَ تَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَ أَمْسَيْتَ- الْحَمْدُ لِرَبِّ الصَّبَاحِ الْحَمْدُ لِفَالِقِ الْإِصْبَاحِ مَرَّتَيْنِ ال

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa’Id from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn abu Hamza from abu Basir from abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) who has said the following: “When you perform the Maghrib (prayer at sunset) and morning prayers say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah,

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَحْمَدُكَ وَ أَسْتَعِينُكَ وَ أَنْتَ رَبِّي وَ أَنَا عَبْدُكَ أَصْبَحْتُ عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَ وَعْدِكَ وَ أُومِنُ بِوَعْدِكَ وَ أُوفِي بِعَهْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ وَ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ أَصْبَحْتُ عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَ كَلِمَةِ الْإِخْلَاصِ وَ مِلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَ دِينِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَلَى

“O Lord, all praise belongs to You. I praise You, beg assistance from You. You are my Lord, and I am Your servant. This morning I am with Your covenant and promise. I believe in Your promise and I am truthful to Your covenant as much as I can. There are no means and no power without the help of Allah, alone. Who has no

قُلْتُ لَهُ عَلِّمْنِي شَيْئاً أَقُولُهُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ وَ إِذَا أَمْسَيْتُ فَقَالَ قُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي‌ يَفْعَلُ ما يَشاءُ* وَ لَا يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ غَيْرُهُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَمَا يُحِبُّ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُحْمَدَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ اللَّهُمَّ أَدْخِلْنِي فِي كُلِّ خَيْرٍ أَدْخَلْتَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَخْرِجْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ سُوءٍ أَخْرَجْتَ مِنْهُ مُحَمَّداً وَ آلَ

“Once I asked Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) to instruct me with something that I should say in the morning and in the evening. The Imam said say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, who does as He wills, and does not do what anyone else wants. All praise belongs to Allah, as Allah loves to be praised. All praise belongs to Allah, as

مَهْمَا تَرَكْتَ مِنْ شَيْ‌ءٍ فَلَا تَتْرُكْ أَنْ تَقُولَ فِي كُلِّ صَبَاحٍ وَ مَسَاءٍ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ- أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ فِي هَذَا الصَّبَاحِ وَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ لِأَهْلِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ أَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ أَهْلِ لَعْنَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أَبْرَأُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ وَ فِي هَذَا الصَّبَاحِ مِمَّنْ نَحْنُ بَيْنَ ظَهْرَانَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَ مِمَّا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ‌

“You may give up whatever you give up but do not give up to say every morning and in the evening the following: “O Lord, this morning I seek forgiveness from You on this day for the people of kindness and disavow the people subject to Your condemnation. “O Lord, this morning and on this day I disavow the pagans around

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ مَنْ قَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ كَانَ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِ‌ الْعَظِيمِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ حِينَ يُصَلِّي الْفَجْرَ[1] لَمْ يَرَ يَوْمَهُ ذَلِكَ شَيْئاً يَكْرَهُهُ.

“I heard Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) saying, ‘Whoever says, “As Allah wills it happens. There are no means and no power without the help of Allah, the Most High, the Most Great,’” one hundred times after the morning prayer, he will not suffer any hardships that day.”

مَنْ قَالَ فِي دُبُرِ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَ دُبُرِ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ‌ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ دَفَعَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَنْهُ سَبْعِينَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ أَهْوَنُهَا الرِّيحُ‌[2] وَ الْبَرَصُ وَ الْجُنُونُ وَ إِنْ كَانَ شَقِيّاً مُحِيَ مِنَ الشَّقَاءِ وَ كُتِبَ فِي السُّعَدَاءِ.

“Whoever says after the Morningprayer and Maghrib (sunset) seven times, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. There are no means and no power without the help of Allah, the Most High, the Most Great,’ Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will repel seventy kinds of misfortunes of which the

أَهْوَنُهُ الْجُنُونُ وَ الْجُذَامُ وَ الْبَرَصُ وَ إِنْ كَانَ شَقِيّاً رَجَوْتُ أَنْ يُحَوِّلَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى السَّعَادَةِ.

the least of which is leprosy and insanity and if he is listed among the unfortunate ones I can hope that Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Holy, will change him to fortunate ones.”

يَقُولُهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ وَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ حِينَ يُمْسِي لَمْ يَخَفْ شَيْطَاناً وَ لَا سُلْطَاناً وَ لَا بَرَصاً وَ لَا جُذَاماً وَ لَمْ يَقُلْ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع وَ أَنَا أَقُولُهَا مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘One should say them (expressions in Hadith 25) three times in the morning and three times in the evening and should not then fear any Satan, ruler, leprosy,’ he did not say seven times. Abu al-Hassan (a.s.) has said, ‘I, however, say them one hundred times.’”

إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الْغَدَاةَ وَ الْمَغْرِبَ فَقُلْ‌ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَالَهَا لَمْ يُصِبْهُ جُنُونٌ وَ لَا جُذَامٌ وَ لَا بَرَصٌ وَ لَا سَبْعُونَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ.

“After performing the morning and Maghrib prayers say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. There are no means and no power without Allah, the Most High, the Most Great,’ seven times, you will not suffer insanity, leprosy and seventy other kinds of misfortune.’”

قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ع‌ إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ الْمَغْرِبَ فَلَا تَبْسُطْ رِجْلَكَ وَ لَا تُكَلِّمْ أَحَداً حَتَّى تَقُولَ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ وَ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ فِي الْغَدَاةِ- فَمَنْ قَالَهَا دَفَعَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِائَةَ نَوْعٍ مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ أَدْنَى نَوْعٍ مِنْهَا الْبَرَصُ وَ الْجُذَامُ وَ الشَّيْطَانُ وَ الس

‘When you performed your Maghrib prayer before stretching your leg or speaking to anyone say one hundred times, “(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. There are no means and no power without Allah, the Most High, the Most Great,” and one hundred times in the morning, Allah will repel one hundred

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ فَنَظَرْتَ إِلَى الشَّمْسِ فِي غُرُوبٍ وَ إِدْبَارٍ فَقُلْ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ* الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَداً وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ‌ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي يَصِفُ وَ لَا يُوصَفُ وَ يَعْلَمُ وَ لَا يُعْلَمُ‌ يَعْلَمُ خائِنَةَ الْأَعْيُنِ‌ وَ ما تُخْفِي الصُّدُورُ أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ الْكَرِيمِ وَ بِاسْ

“I heard abu al-Hassan (a.s.) saying, ‘In the evening when you see the sun is disappearing say, ‘(I begin) in the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. إِنَّ الدُّعَاءَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا سُنَّةٌ وَاجِبَةٌ[2] مَعَ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ[3] وَ الْمَغْرِبِ تَقُولُ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ‌ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي وَ هُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ تَقُولُ- أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ‌ مِنْ هَ

“Prayer before sunrise and sunset is an established Sunnah (tradition). At sunrise and sunset say, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone, Who has no partner. To Him belongs the Kingdom and all praise. He gives life, causes death, causes death and gives life and He does not die. In His hand is all good,

قُلْ أَسْتَعِيذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ‌ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ‌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ‌ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ* وَ قُلْ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مَفْرُوضٌ هُوَ قَالَ نَعَمْ مَفْرُوضٌ مَحْدُودٌ تَقُولُهُ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَ قَبْلَ الْغُرُوبِ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنْ فَاتَكَ شَيْ

“Say, ‘I seek protection with Allah against Satan, the condemned to be stoned. I seek protection with Allah against the approach of Satan. Allah is Hearing and Omniscient.’ Say, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah alone. Who has no partner. He gives life and causes death. He has power over all things.’ The n

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنَّ مِنْ الدُّعَاءِ مَا يَنْبَغِي لِصَاحِبِهِ إِذَا نَسِيَهُ أَنْ يَقْضِيَهُ يَقُولُ بَعْدَ الْغَدَاةِ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ* وَ يُمِيتُ وَ يُحْيِي وَ هُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ كُلُّهُ‌ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ يَقُولُ- أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيم

One should say after the morning prayer, “No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone Who has no partner, to Him belongs the Kingdom and all praise, He gives life, causes death, causes death, gives life, He

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ع عَنِ التَّسْبِيحِ فَقَالَ مَا عَلِمْتُ شَيْئاً مُوَظَّفاً غَيْرَ تَسْبِيحِ فَاطِمَةَ ع- وَ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ تَقُولُ- لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَ يُمِيتُ- وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* وَ يُسَبِّحُ مَا شَاءَ تَطَوُّعاً.

“Once I asked abu Ja’far (a.s.) about Tasbih (words to glorify Allah). The Imam said, ‘I do not know of anything other than Tasbih of Fatimah (a.s.) and ten times after the morning prayer, ‘No one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, alone Who has no partner, to Him belongs all praise, He gives life, causes death. كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الثَّانِي ع أَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يُعَلِّمَنِي دُعَاءً فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ تَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَ أَمْسَيْتَ- اللَّهُ اللَّهُ اللَّهُ رَبِّيَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ لَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً وَ إِنْ زِدْتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ ثُمَّ تَدْعُو بِمَا بَدَا لَكَ فِي حَاجَتِكَ فَهُوَ لِكُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى‌ يَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ ما يَشاءُ[1].

"I wrote to Abu Ja'far al-Thani (al-Jawad) (as) asking him to teach me a supplication. He wrote back to me saying, 'When you wake up in the morning and when you enter the evening, say: 'Allah, Allah, Allah, my Lord, the Merciful, the Compassionate. I do not associate anything with Him.' And if you add to that, it is be

لَا تَدَعْ أَنْ تَدْعُوَ بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ إِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ- اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي فِي دِرْعِكَ الْحَصِينَةِ الَّتِي تَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَنْ تُرِيدُ فَإِنَّ أَبِي ع كَانَ يَقُولُ هَذَا مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ الْمَخْزُونِ.

“Do not miss saying in the morning and in the evening three times this, ‘O Lord, place me in Your strong coat of arms in which You place whomever You will’; my father would say that this is of the prayer that is treasured.’”

قُلْتُ لَهُ مَا عَنَى بِقَوْلِهِ- وَ إِبْراهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّى‌[1] قَالَ كَلِمَاتٍ بَالَغَ فِيهِنَّ قُلْتُ وَ مَا هُنَّ قَالَ كَانَ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ قَالَ- أَصْبَحْتُ وَ رَبِّي مَحْمُودٌ أَصْبَحْتُ لَا أُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئاً وَ لَا أَدْعُو مَعَهُ إِلَهاً وَ لَا أَتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُونِهِ وَلِيّاً- ثَلَاثاً وَ إِذَا أَمْسَى قَالَهَا ثَلَاثاً قَالَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ فِي كِتَابِهِ- وَ إِبْراهِيمَ الَّذِي

"What is the meaning of His words: 'And Ibrahim who fulfilled [his duties].'" (53:37) He said, "Eloquent words that he would say often." I asked, "What were they?". He said, "Whenever he would wake up in the morning, he would say three times: 'I have awakened, and by my Lord, all praise is due to Him, I do not associat

مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَأْخُذُ مَضْجَعَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي عَلَا فَقَهَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بَطَنَ فَخَبَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي‌ يُحْيِ الْمَوْتى‌* وَ يُمِيتُ الْأَحْيَاءَ وَ هُوَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* خَرَجَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ كَهَيْئَةِ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ.

“Whoever at the time of going to bed says three times, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, Who is High, thus, He is Dominant. All praise belongs to Allah, Who is hidden, thus, He knows. All praise belongs to Allah, Who owns, thus. He has measured (all things), all praise belongs to Allah, Who gives life to the dead, and caus

إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي احْتَبَسْتُ نَفْسِي عِنْدَكَ فَاحْتَبِسْهَا فِي مَحَلِّ رِضْوَانِكَ وَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَ إِنْ رَدَدْتَهَا إِلَى بَدَنِي فَارْدُدْهَا مُؤْمِنَةً عَارِفَةً بِحَقِّ أَوْلِيَائِكَ حَتَّى تَتَوَفَّاهَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ.

“When any of you is about to go to your bed you should say, ‘O Lord, I have placed my soul in Your custody, keep it secure in a place that You like, and forgive, and if You return it to my body, return it with belief, and with knowledge of the rights of Your friends until it will die upon such belief.’”

عِنْدَ مَنَامِهِ- آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَ كَفَرْتُ بِالطَّاغُوتِ اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي فِي مَنَامِي وَ فِي يَقَظَتِي.

“At bedtime he (abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.)) would say, ‘I believe in Allah and reject the devil. O Lord, protect me in my sleep and when I am awake.’”

قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ أَ لَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ص يَقُولُ إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَ يَقُولُ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ وَ كَفَرْتُ بِالطَّاغُوتِ اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي فِي مَنَامِي وَ فِي يَقَظَتِي.

“Once Abu ‘Abdillah (a.s.) said, ‘Should I tell you about what the Messenger of Allah would say when going to his bed?’ I said, ‘Yes, please do so.’ The Imam said, ‘He would read verse 255 of Chapter two and say, “(I begin) in the name of Allah, I believe in Allah, and reject the devil. O Lord, protect me in my sleep a

كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ص يَقُولُ- اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الِاحْتِلَامِ وَ مِنْ سُوءِ الْأَحْلَامِ وَ أَنْ يَلْعَبَ بِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ وَ الْمَنَامِ.

“Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib (a.s.) would say, ‘O Lord, I seek protection with You against wet dreams and bad dreams and from Satan playing with me during my sleep or when awake.’”

تَسْبِيحُ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ ع إِذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ فَكَبِّرِ اللَّهَ أَرْبَعاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَ احْمَدْهُ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَ سَبِّحْهُ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَ تَقْرَأُ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِيِّ وَ الْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ وَ عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ الصَّافَّاتِ وَ عَشْراً مِنْ آخِرِهَا.

أَنَّ شِهَابَ بْنَ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ سَأَلَهُ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ‌[2] أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع وَ قَالَ‌ قُلْ لَهُ إِنَّ امْرَأَةً تُفْزِعُنِي فِي الْمَنَامِ بِاللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ قُلْ لَهُ اجْعَلْ مِسْبَاحاً[1] وَ كَبِّرِ اللَّهَ أَرْبَعاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ تَكْبِيرَةً وَ سَبِّحِ اللَّهَ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ تَسْبِيحَةً وَ احْمَدِ اللَّهَ ثَلَاثاً وَ ثَلَاثِينَ وَ قُلْ‌ لا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ‌ وَحْدَهُ‌ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ‌ لَهُ الْم

“Ask the Imam, ‘A woman frightens me in my dream at night.’ The narrator has said that the Imam said, ‘Tell him to take rosary beads ( sabhah ) and say, ‘Allah is greater than can be described, thirty-four times, all praise belongs to Allah, thirty-three times, Allah is free of defects, thirty-three times,’ then say, “

لَهُ يَا أَبَهْ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنَامَ فَقَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ قُلْ- أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّداً ص عَبْدُهُ وَ رَسُولُهُ أَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِسُلْطَانِ اللَّهِ‌ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلى‌ كُلِّ شَيْ‌ءٍ قَدِيرٌ* وَ أَعُوذُ بِعَفْوِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِغُفْرَانِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِرَحْمَةِ ال

“One night the son of Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) came to him and said, ‘Father I want to go to sleep.’ He said son, say, ‘1 testify that no one deserves to be worshipped except Allah, that Muhammad (a.s.) is the servant and messenger of Allah. I seek protection with the greatness of Allah. I seek protection with majesty of

قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع‌ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ لَا تَبِيتَ لَيْلَةً حَتَّى تَعَوَّذَ بِأَحَدَ عَشَرَ حَرْفاً قُلْتُ أَخْبِرْنِي بِهَا قَالَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِقُدْرَةِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَلَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِسُلْطَانِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَمَالِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِدَفْعِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِمَنْعِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِجَمْعِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِمُلْكِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعُوذ

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) said to me, ‘If you can, do not go to sleep without seeking protection with eleven letters.’ I then asked, ‘What are they?’ The Imam told me to say, ‘I seek protection with the majesty of Allah, I seek protection with the power of Allah, I seek protection with the glory of Allah, I seek protectio

كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع يَقُولُ‌ إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَقُلْ- بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَضَعْتُ جَنْبِيَ الْأَيْمَنَ لِلَّهِ عَلَى مِلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفاً لِلَّهِ مُسْلِماً وَ ما أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ‌.

“Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) has said, ‘Whenever you are about to sleep in your bed say, “In the name of Allah, I have placed my right side (for Allah) according to the Millah (tradition and culture) of Ibrahim, submitted to the will of Allah and I am not of the pagans.’”
